Chapter 110: Chapter 110 She’s the Ant in the Palm of Zhou Lin, Unable to Escape His Grasp

Cheng Zhiwei’s sleep had become severely problematic.

Last night in the hospital, she barely slept at all, and after being discharged and returning home, she only managed to doze off briefly. Any slight noise would immediately startle her awake.

Her body and spirit were already battered, and after going without sleep for a whole day and night, it was too much for anyone to bear—everyone needs sleep.

Cheng Zhiwei was exhausted and longed for sleep.

But she couldn’t fall asleep.

In the orange glow of the warm light, she lay with her eyes open, staring at the ceiling. It was as if her mind was empty, but uncontrollably, a flood of images sprang forth, ones she couldn’t even begin to explain.

Staying in one position for too long was uncomfortable, even the slightest movement was agony.

She couldn’t sleep, yet the man beside her was sleeping soundly.

Each breath he took added another layer of irritation in her heart.

Why could he sleep?

It was she who needed rest, yet he insisted on disturbing her.

She lacked the energy to confront Zhou Lin, but when her temper flared, she wouldn’t just obediently submit.

Tossing and turning, she made no small amount of noise.

If he prevented her from sleeping well, then he shouldn’t expect to sleep either—after all, he knew very well about her insomnia.

With Cheng Zhiwei’s movements, Zhou Lin’s breathing softened.

She silently gritted her teeth, hoping that if Zhou Lin couldn’t stand it, it would be best if he left.

But things didn’t go as she had hoped.

Zhou Lin awoke, but he didn’t leave. Instead, he rolled over, and before Cheng Zhiwei could react, she was wrapped in his arms along with the blanket.

The annoying breath was suddenly very close.

Cheng Zhiwei stiffened.

Zhou Lin was half-asleep, his voice hoarse and lazy, sounding like a hum from his nose, "Can’t sleep? Hmm?"

Cheng Zhiwei didn’t speak. Even through the blanket, the strength of his arms was still astoundingly firm.

Fortunately, he didn’t hold her directly as he had done before. With the blanket between them, Cheng Zhiwei’s fear was less intense.

Perhaps because he didn’t hear her voice, Zhou Lin snuggled closer, not stopping until he felt that he had completely enveloped the blanket in his arms, then he hummed softly, "Sleep now."

Cheng Zhiwei clutched the blanket with one hand, her heartbeat drumming in the darkness. It wasn’t excitement from Zhou Lin’s closeness, but rather, his sudden approach filled her with panic and resistance.

Now she was even less likely to sleep.

Her body was rigid as a corpse, laying stiff and straight.

It was extremely uncomfortable.

Zhou Lin’s chin rested on her forehead, his warm breath softly caressing the top of her head as if they had the most intimate relationship in the world.

But Cheng Zhiwei knew it was all an illusion.

The day the truth was laid bare, she would suffer immensely.

Cheng Zhiwei remained tense for most of the night until she saw a faint whiteness through the curtains—it was already dawn. The arm over her retracted as she noticed the person beside her get out of bed, dress, and then quietly leave.

Only then did her rigid body gradually relax, her fingers clutching the blanket tightly as she slowly curled up.

Her entire body ached.

Still, she couldn’t sleep.

Zhou Lin had slept in the room all night and now that he had left, the area was still filled with his scent.

I can’t sleep.

Still can’t sleep.

And for some reason, even though Zhou Lin had clearly left, that scent seemed to grow stronger and stronger.

Cheng Zhiwei felt an asphyxiating sensation of being unable to breathe.

She abruptly threw off the blanket, stepped barefoot onto the floor, and rushed to the door to fling it open, leaning against the wall while bending over, gasping for breath.

The air outside was fresh, and the feeling of suffocation lessened. Cheng Zhiwei felt like she had been saved.

Until she saw the man’s dark grey slippers in her field of vision.

Cheng Zhiwei’s pupils suddenly dilated, and her hands, which were propped on her knees, subconsciously grabbed at her nightgown. A rigid sensation of suffocation crawled up her spine, seizing her breath once again.

Zhou Lin couldn’t see her expression, didn’t know how afraid she was of him at that moment; he only saw her feet on the floor, her pale toes against the chilly deep brown tiles, reflecting a cold luster.

He frowned slightly and reached out to embrace her, "Don’t you know to wear shoes?"

"Don’t touch me," Cheng Zhiwei’s hoarse voice contained an undertone of emotional breakdown as she slid down against the wall, hugging herself with her arms.

Zhou Lin merely frowned and then effortlessly grabbed her arm, lifting her up from the ground.

The sensation of his palm on her skin brought a shiver. Cheng Zhiwei’s emotions, tense all night, finally burst forth uncontrollably.

She clenched her hands into tight fists and fiercely pounded on Zhou Lin’s chest as tears scattered with her movements, "I’ve said it, don’t touch me, don’t touch me."

Zhou Lin didn’t stop her. His thin lips pressed together, and with a long arm extended, he hugged Cheng Zhiwei close, letting her pound away at him.

"What exactly do you want?" Cheng Zhiwei asked in a high pitch, her voice shattered and raspy, "I told you to let me die, I’ll compensate Seo Zhenzhen with my life, but you wouldn’t agree, so what more do you want from me?"

She cried her heart out, releasing the unbearable emotions with her tears, the hatred and resentment inside reaching a peak.

Wang Mei, hearing the noise, came running anxiously but saw Cheng Zhiwei being embraced by Zhou Lin. After observing for a while and seeing Zhou Lin was relatively gentle to Cheng Zhiwei, she quietly retreated.

It was for the best that the Young Madam let out her anguish with tears.

Cheng Zhiwei cried for a long time, leaving tear stains on Zhou Lin’s chest, yet he never loosened his grip.

When Cheng Zhiwei’s crying subsided, Zhou Lin finally picked her up and carried her into the bedroom. His expression wasn’t exactly warm, but it was the best attitude he had shown her in years.

Laying her on the bed, Zhou Lin pulled the blanket over her, his voice low and deep with a hint of helplessness, "The floor is cold, why didn’t you wear shoes? Or did you have a nightmare?"

The question carried a touch of concern, much like a husband who dotes on his wife.

Cheng Zhiwei still had tears in her eyes, and her blurry gaze fell on Zhou Lin, unclear and vague.

After a bout of crying, her emotions gradually stabilized.

Exhaustion swept over her. She hugged the blanket weakly. The softness on Zhou Lin’s face didn’t make her feel much warmth but rather deepened her fear.

As Zhou Lin pulled the blanket over her, she couldn’t control herself and shrank away. Her voice was hoarse from crying for so long, "Zhou Lin, what exactly do you want?"

Couldn’t he just end it swiftly with one blow?

Or be specific about the target and bring it out into the open; she could take that.

Zhou Lin’s expression darkened slightly, but quickly returned to one of bright composure as he stroked her hair, "I’ve said before, I will treat you as my wife, and you will have everything that comes with it."

Cheng Zhiwei bit her lip, suddenly realizing Zhou Lin had woven a dense net around her. No matter how much she struggled, she couldn’t break free.

Still, she couldn’t help but plead softly, "Zhou Lin, I know you want to save Bai Zhuzhu, and that’s just a word from you."

"If Mom asks, you can say I agreed, and if she asks me, I will also say it was my decision," Cheng Zhiwei lowered herself to the utmost.

She was an ant in the palm of Zhou Lin’s hand, unable to escape his grip; he didn’t need to expend such effort on her.
