Chapter 838: Chapter 807: Unfettered, Suddenly Going Home

Huo Yingjie walked alone on the quiet path, reflecting on the years gone by.

What he had thought were trivial incidents turned out to be vividly etched in his memory.

In the blink of an eye, eleven years had passed.

How many sets of eleven years does a person have in a lifetime?

Especially from the age of eighteen to thirty, that precious youthful time, the most vibrant period of one’s life.

Looking up at the sky, observing the vast expanse of stars, Huo Yingjie finally had a moment of enlightenment. He realized he was not the lofty Changling Supreme God but rather a tiny human being, as insignificant as a grain of sand in the sea.

Greatness or insignificance, both are just states of being, a mindset.

All he needed to do was to walk steadfastly forward on this road.

Despite the rough patches and beautiful scenery, and even the many crossroads, Huo Yingjie had always steadfastly viewed He Tiantian as a guiding lighthouse. As long as he focused on the lighthouse, even if he took detours or encountered bumps, storms, he could find the way back home.

Having come to this understanding, he lost the original sense of loss and gained a kind of carefree attitude that comes with increased life experience.

After handing over his responsibilities, Huo Yingjie was the first to leave the Nan City Research Institute and go home.

Zhang Aijun and Yun Feng were responsible for ensuring that Huo Yingjie reached the designated unit in Yanjing within the stipulated time.

Huo Yingjie had not returned the previous weekend, which was unprecedented since the New Year. He Tiantian was somewhat worried, unsure of what had happened.

The letters He Tiantian received were from a week ago; it was impossible to know the latest developments.

If it involved secrets, Huo Yingjie would not have written about it in his letters.

"Tiantian, why didn’t Yingjie come back last weekend?" Jiang Lifang asked, already accustomed to her son bringing food on Saturdays and Sundays, so his absence had caused her some concern.

Although He Tiantian was also worried, she didn’t want her mother-in-law to worry more, so she said with a smile, "I heard Brother Yingjie is in the most critical phase of his project, probably very busy. Once it’s over, I guess he can come back."

"Oh, is that so," Jiang Lifang accepted without suspicion. If there was nothing urgent, that boy would never have missed this weekend.

As they were speaking, Huo Yingjie arrived home.

"It’s only Wednesday today, why have you come back?" He Tiantian asked curiously, but seeing Huo Yingjie was all right, she could finally relax.

"Right, Tiantian was just saying you were busy with work," Jiang Lifang said, "By the way, why did you bring so much luggage this time? Three big suitcases."

Huo Yingjie smiled and replied, "Mom, let me come in first, we can talk while eating."

Huo Zhekun sensed something was amiss as well, saying, "Lifang, go make some noodles quickly, let the kids eat."

Zhang Aijun and Yun Feng would accompany Huo Yingjie back to Nan City every week, so they had their own permanent rooms here. They put away their things and went straight to the kitchen to cook for themselves.

Zhang Aijun worked swiftly, and even with dry noodles, he could make a delicious pot of minced meat noodles.

After the meal, Zhang Aijun and Yun Feng stood outside.

Grandma Wang took the children to her room, allowing Huo Yingjie to discuss serious matters with his family.

He Tiantian made tea and poured four cups.

Huo Zhekun sipped his tea and asked, "Yingjie, were you fired?"

"Cough, cough, cough!" Huo Yingjie coughed several times in disbelief, "Dad, do you really think so little of me, that I would be fired by my workplace?"

"Exactly, Yingjie is my son, a genius, with an IQ higher than the two of us combined; how could he possibly be fired?" Jiang Lifang was displeased, immediately criticizing her husband for talking nonsense.

To deny her son was to deny herself.

"Haha, I was just guessing!" Huo Zhekun said with an awkward laugh, "Yingjie, come on, tell us what actually happened?"

Huo Yingjie smiled and said, "I originally thought Dad would be transferred to Yanjing first, but it turns out I have to report to Yanjing in advance."

Upon hearing this, He Tiantian remembered the last time Huo Yingjie nearly died and was dumbfounded.

Her face turned pale, and she remained silent for a long time.

Jiang Lifang patted her daughter-in-law’s hand and asked anxiously, "Are you going to the mountains again?"

Seeing that both his mother and wife were worried, Huo Yingjie hurriedly explained, "No, my main focus is on materials, specifically researching various scarce materials. I won’t need to go to the mountains anymore, but to some state-owned military enterprises, sovereign enterprises in Yanjing."

Hearing this, the three of them finally breathed a sigh of relief.

"So that’s the case!" Huo Zhekun said, "Well, overall, going to Yanjing is better for your future development."

Jiang Lifang looked at He Tiantian and smiled, "Does that mean you can come home every day now?"

"Yes," Huo Yingjie said, "I have received a clear answer from Chief Engineer Sun."

"That’s good," Jiang Lifang said, "Tiantian likes teaching, no problem, she can apply for a transfer, and teach directly at Huaqing University or Yanjing University."

He Tiantian waved her hands repeatedly, "Mom, I don’t have such abilities, I’m scared to teach, afraid that my knowledge isn’t sufficient."

"If your knowledge is insufficient, you can continue to study for it, apply for a master’s at one of those universities, study for two more years, and then you’ll have confidence," Huo Zhekun suggested, knowing his daughter-in-law was intelligent, knowledgeable, because children nurtured by such a person would definitely succeed.

Upon hearing this, He Tiantian’s eyes lit up as she nodded, "Okay, once this semester is over, I’ll go to Yanjing to continue my studies."

To He Tiantian, studying was a pleasure.

Also, their child was five years old now and could attend kindergarten, the Yu Hong Class, which meant she would have much more free time.

"Great!" Jiang Lifang approved, "Yingjie, when are you leaving?"

"In thirteen days, there’s no rush," Huo Yingjie said, "By the way, is Yun Feng still in Yanjing?"

"Yes!" He Tiantian nodded, "Do you need something from Yun Feng?"

Huo Yingjie smiled, "I do, our house in Yanjing needs some tidying up. I plan to stay in our own place, I don’t want to live in the old house. I’ll send him a telegram tomorrow asking him to help me renovate and buy some furniture."

"You just let him fix up the house a bit, find a room to stay in first, and we can deal with the rest when I arrive," He Tiantian said. She didn’t trust others to handle it and wanted to do it herself.

"Hehe, okay," Huo Yingjie laughed, thinking of how He Tiantian liked to have absolute control over her own space, and how she might not be pleased with what others did.

"That’s wonderful, we can live in our own house when we go back later," Jiang Lifang said happily, knowing that if her sister-in-law gave her trouble in the future, she would have a place to go instead of just hiding in her room upstairs.

When the conversation turned to such topics, Huo Zhekun fell silent, exchanging a look with Huo Yingjie as if pretending not to understand anything.

Seeing her husband’s reaction, Jiang Lifang was content. She didn’t continue, to avoid making him feel uncomfortable.
