Chapter 407: Chapter 378 They Don’t Believe It!_1
Mr. Smith nodded and said, "Miss Janie is a brave girl!"
"Indeed!" Qi Shuliang firmly replied, "Those six criminals are dead, are they suspecting my niece and daughter of killing them?"
"It is quite obvious." Mr. Smith nodded and said, "One fool dying of an overdose could be normal, but six fools overdosing together is somewhat irrational. I’ve read Miss Janie’s statement, and she came down from the third floor, at the same time rescuing Angela. A young girl like her, generally wouldn’t have that kind of strength, so it’s reasonable to be suspicious."
Upon hearing this, Qi Shuliang couldn’t help but laugh.
"What’s so funny?" Mr. Smith from Smith County City was utterly perplexed, not understanding why Qi Shuliang would laugh.
"If they knew Janie eats enough for two grown men and can carry a hundred kilograms, they wouldn’t be suspicious," Qi Shuliang replied. He had seen the record at the police station and hadn’t been doubtful, but he had forgotten that others might not believe it.
His son, Qi Zhenghan, once arm-wrestled with He Tiantian and couldn’t last three seconds before being defeated.
"Ah?" Mr. Smith was surprised but then laughed, "So that’s how it is! I would never have guessed that such a beautiful and delicate Miss Janie could be so strong."
"Hehe, yes, I also couldn’t believe it at first, but then I saw Janie working out in the gym, and I became a believer," said Qi Shuliang. "She’s a good kid. To save my daughter in such dangerous circumstances was very brave indeed."
"Yes," Mr. Smith agreed, "I should wait then. When Miss Janie wakes up, I have a few questions to ask her."
"All right, lunchtime is approaching; let’s have lunch together," Qi Shuliang invited, trusting that Mr. Smith was a reliable person.
He Tiantian had taken a nap and woke up with an empty stomach, feeling a bit hungry. She looked at the time; it was already two in the afternoon, no wonder she was so hungry.
Qi Zhengmin, because of a foot injury, had a slight fever, but she had taken medicine and continued to sleep.
He Tiantian got up, freshened up quickly, changed into a dress, and went down to look for something to eat.
Mr. Smith was playing chess with Qi Shuliang when He Tiantian greeted them and then went to the kitchen to ask the maid for food.
Before long, He Tiantian brought out two large plates of food to the dining room.
Mr. Smith saw it and said with a slight smile, "If Miss Janie can eat all this food, then I am even more convinced."
"Haha, she certainly can, you’ll see," laughed Qi Shuliang with an affectionate expression.
Before long, He Tiantian had finished two large plates and drunk two glasses of milk, feeling somewhat full.
He Tiantian took the dishes to the kitchen, rinsed her mouth, and went to the living room, planning to greet her uncle and the guest at home and then go upstairs to rest, but Mr. Smith stopped her.
"Janie, Mr. Smith has some questions for you," Qi Shuliang said, "You need to answer them seriously. Afterwards, Mr. Smith will accompany you and Angela to the police station."
He Tiantian was taken aback and said, "Oh, Mr. Smith, please go ahead and ask."
The arrangements made by the Snake King before had already imprinted themselves into her memory as if they were her own, so she was not afraid of being questioned.
"I just want to know how did you escape?" Mr. Smith asked, looking kindly at He Tiantian.
He Tiantian recounted her memory without hesitation, just as it was written in the record.
"Can you swear to God that everything you’ve said is true?" Mr. Smith asked earnestly.
Haha, God really sticks His nose in everywhere, doesn’t He!
But since Mr. Smith had asked, He Tiantian raised her right hand and said seriously, "I swear, everything I’ve said is true!"
Mr. Smith nodded and said, "That’s good. When you get to the police station, just stick to this story. If their questioning makes you uncomfortable, you assert your discomfort straight away; don’t let yourself be aggrieved."
Mr. Smith was concerned that He Tiantian, a young girl, might be at a loss when faced with police interrogation or that recalling the previous traumatic events could negatively impact her mentally.
He Tiantian nodded and said, "Thank you for the reminder, I will remember."
"So should we change clothes, call Angela, and make our way to the police station now?" Mr. Smith asked kindly, his expression sincere.
He Tiantian knew that Mr. Smith must have been here quite early, and the reason he waited until now was out of consideration for her and Qi Zhengmin’s health.
Now that she was up, there was no need to keep an elderly man waiting.
"Okay, just give me a moment to change clothes and I’ll be right down," He Tiantian said with a smile, nodding at Qi Shuliang and Mr. Smith before turning to go upstairs.
After He Tiantian went up, she saw Qi Zhengmin sleeping soundly and still running a slight fever, so she didn’t call for Qi Zhengmin since that girl had been unconscious throughout and didn’t know anything about the events.
He Tiantian changed into a white dress and donned half-high heeled sandals studded with rhinestones. Her long hair was tied in a tidy ponytail and she clipped two pink barrettes on her head. After simply washing her face and rinsing her mouth, applying some moisturizer on her face, she grabbed a pink shoulder bag which contained a handkerchief, a palm-sized notebook, a pen, a small pack of tissues, a wallet, and a couple of band-aids.
When Qi Shuliang saw He Tiantian come downstairs, he asked his daughter Qi Zhengmin, "Where’s Zhengmin?"
He Tiantian smiled and replied, "Uncle, Zhengmin is sleeping. She’s finally settled down and she still has a bit of a fever, so it’s better to let her rest at home. Besides, Zhengmin was unconscious from the kidnapping and only woke up halfway through our escape; she knows nothing."
"Oh!" Qi Shuliang nodded, "Then let’s not take Zhengmin with us. I’m fine, and Mr. Smith and I will accompany you to the station."
Before He Tiantian left, Third Grandma Qi instructed her not to let herself be wronged.
He Tiantian repeatedly agreed.
What’s there to be afraid of? Now that the Snake King has taken care of everything, she just needed to do as the Snake King told her.
Qi Shuliang and Mr. Smith accompanied He Tiantian to the police station.
Sitting in the interrogation room, Officer William sat on one side, with Mr. Smith, Qi Shuliang, and He Tiantian on the other.
"We appreciate the cooperation of Mr. Qi, Miss Janie, and Mr. Smith with our work," Officer William said warmly, with Tom, the same young officer as before, seated beside him.
Mr. Smith nodded and smilingly said, "One of my clients, Miss Janie is here. You can continue to ask her if you have any doubts. As for the other young lady, she’s physically unwell and couldn’t be here. Please understand. This is the medical certificate Dr. Angela has provided, indicating that she now has a low fever and injuries to both legs requiring rest."
"Thank you! We regret to hear about Miss Angela’s illness," Officer William expressed with gratitude, then took six photographs out of a file bag, "Miss Janie, do you recognize any of these six people?"
He Tiantian looked over the photographs carefully. In reality, she recognized two of the men who had taken photos of her and Qi Zhengmin, but she had previously claimed to have been unconscious and not to have seen these people, so she shook her head and stated, "I am certain that I do not recognize any of these six people!"
