Chapter 379: Chapter 350 Warmth, Future Plans_1
Westerners have a habit when eating, they share food.
All the dishes on the table are divided into portions, and if you want to eat something, the servants at the side will pick it out and place it on the plate in front of you.
Once you’re done, they’ll pick another one for you.
Third Grandma Qi recalled that when she was a child and had maids to serve her, it was like this, not strange at all.
Don’t talk while eating, don’t speak while lying down!
Seeing the others not talking, Third Grandma Qi also kept silent, earnestly enjoying the meal, relishing the pleasure and satisfaction that the delicacies brought.
Oh my, the taste is so good, she hadn’t had such delicious food in many years!
This time coming to Country M, she wanted to eat all the things she craved and also try the delights she had never tasted before.
Oh my, these dishes, one couldn’t even find them back home! Coming with Third Grandma Qi this time, Tiantian was really fortunate.
After the meal, Third Grandma Qi patted Anna’s hand and said, "Thank you, Anna; I really liked this dinner."
Hearing Third Grandma Qi’s praise, Anna’s face beamed with joy, feeling affirmed, she said, "Mom, it’s my honor that you liked it! In Country H, it’s customary to drink tea after dinner, we have tea leaves at home, I’ll make some for you!"
Third Grandma Qi smiled and replied, "Anna, you can take a break. I’ve brought some hawthorns and sour dates from our home, which can be steeped in hot water with a bit of honey to aid digestion, it’s especially good. I’ll have you try some!"
He Tiantian smiled and said, "I’ll go get it right now!"
He Tiantian knew that Third Grandma Qi usually enjoyed drinking chrysanthemum goji tea; she loved having hawthorn sour date honey water after meals, so she brought some with her before coming.
Throughout the journey, Third Grandma Qi didn’t stop praising He Tiantian’s thoughtfulness.
He Tiantian went into the house, got some hawthorns and sour dates, washed them in hot water, then soaked them in boiling water.
Soon, the sour scent wafted through the air, carrying with it the sweet and tart aroma amidst the steam.
Adding a bit of honey to the cups, He Tiantian served one for each of them.
Qi Shuliang couldn’t wait to take a cup, took a sip, and savored it carefully, "I haven’t tasted this flavor in so many years!"
"Try it, Anna; if you don’t like it, you don’t have to drink it, no worries, don’t force yourself," said Third Grandma Qi with a smile, concerned that her daughter-in-law might not like it but was too polite to say so.
After taking a sip, Anna commented, "Tart and sweet, like juice, the taste is quite nice. Tony once said he liked hawthorn water. I bought some for him to drink, but he said it didn’t taste the same."
"Indeed, the taste is different," insisted Qi Shuliang, it was the flavor of home.
Anna nodded, though in her mind, she thought the tastes were actually the same—there was no difference at all!
However, she soon reconsidered, thinking perhaps her husband missed the very essence of his hometown in the flavor.
After drinking some hawthorn water, Third Grandma Qi stood up and said, "Shuliang, I’d like to go for a walk."
"Sure, I’ll accompany you," Qi Shuliang readily agreed, stepping forward to support his mother.
"Mom, wait a moment, I’ll get you a coat to wear, it’s a bit cold outside in the evening," Anna thoughtfully hurried upstairs, fetched a mid-length coat and draped it over Third Grandma Qi, "Come back after a short walk, it’s cold outside!"
After speaking, Anna hugged Third Grandma Qi.
Third Grandma Qi, who rarely got so close to people, was slightly taken aback but accepted Anna’s hug, returned the embrace, and gently patted Anna’s slender back.
This is nice.
Qi Shuliang helped his mother go outside for a walk, while Anna let Qi Zhenghan and Qi Zhengmin chat with He Tiantian.
"No need, I want to go upstairs to rest. You have accompanied me all day, you should rest well too," said He Tiantian, not wanting to trouble them too much.
Moreover, they had just met, and the pleasantries had already been exchanged. There wasn’t much left to say.
They would talk more once they became better acquainted in the future.
Returning to her room, He Tiantian took a bath, changed into pajamas, picked up a book, and lay in bed to read.
The soft lighting and the clean, tidy room felt like a dream.
About an hour later, He Tiantian heard Third Grandma Qi’s voice coming to help take care of Third Grandma Qi, to put her to bed.
Just as He Tiantian was about to leave, Third Grandma Qi stopped her, saying, "Tiantian, don’t leave!"
"What is it, Grandma?" He Tiantian asked, sitting on the edge of the bed with a smile, "Is there something you want to say to me?"
"Having just arrived here, I may have neglected you. Please don’t overthink it! You are like my own granddaughter, really, I’m speaking the truth. I will never forget how, when I was most helpless and could not see any hope, it was you who were by my side," said Third Grandma Qi. Qi Zhengmin was her biological granddaughter whom she was naturally fond of.
However, He Tiantian was her recognized granddaughter, and they had developed a deep emotional bond. She didn’t want He Tiantian to misunderstand.
"Grandma, don’t worry," He Tiantian reassured, "I know everything. I am happy to see you reunited with your loved ones. I won’t feel lost."
Seeing He Tiantian’s genuine response, Third Grandma Qi felt slightly relieved.
"That’s good," Third Grandma Qi said, "By the way, Tiantian, I asked Shuliang, and if you want to study here, he will make arrangements for you."
Third Grandma Qi had always felt it was a pity for He Tiantian not to study, to just do farm work in the countryside.
He Tiantian shook her head, saying, "Although I want to study, I hope more to be with my parents. As you know, it’s so chaotic now, and my parents are such innocent people, I can’t rest easy without being by their side."
Not studying is something I can do on my own; but once I lose my loved ones, they will never come back.
These were He Tiantian’s true feelings!
Having been reborn, her wish was to live a peaceful life with her parents and family. As for everything else, that could wait.
After all, the national college entrance examination would eventually be restored in the country, and she could go to school then.
"Ah, as you wish. I just think it’s a waste for such a bright and talented girl like you not to study," sighed Third Grandma Qi.
"It’s not a waste. Family is the most important," said He Tiantian, "By the way, Grandma, are you planning to stay here?"
Third Grandma Qi looked around, thought for a moment, and said, "No, you stay with me here for a while, and then we’ll go back together. I have lived in Qijia Village for so long. It’s my root. I can’t just not return."
Falling leaves return to their roots, this is the simplest thought of the older generation.
"Alright then, I will stay with you here for a while. If you change your mind, you can tell me," said He Tiantian, "It’s getting late; let’s rest early."
"Okay, you’ve worked hard too, rest early," nodded Third Grandma Qi, watching He Tiantian leave.
This child’s sensibility was touching. In fact, when asking those questions, Third Grandma Qi already knew He Tiantian wouldn’t stay.
With a son, grandsons, and granddaughters here, she herself wasn’t willing to stay, let alone He Tiantian whose relatives were in their homeland.
