Chapter 518: Chapter 518 Encountering a Grandmaster Powerhouse_1
As the stars in the sky gradually disappeared and the distant horizon began to lighten, a hint of brightness filled a dim cave in the Dragon Mountain Range.
Zhang Xian withdrew from his meditative state and opened his eyes, nudging the two girls leaning against him.
"Hmm..." Luo Shuining rubbed her sleepy eyes and asked, "What’s up? Is it time for breakfast?"
Upon hearing this, Zhang Xian’s face fell.
Is she missing a few brain cells? Thinking about breakfast at a time like this...
"Ah..."
When Luo Shuining took in her surroundings, a faint blush crept onto her face. She thought they were still at Qing Shui Nunnery when she was half-asleep!
"Why are you pushing me?" Jing Yi complained.
Zhang Xian glanced at Jing Yi and said, "We need to go find the Thousand Leaf Grass. There are no beasts or anything in this cave. I can go a few days without eating, but can you guys hold out?"
"I can’t hold out. I’m already feeling hungry," Luo Shuining pouted.
Jing Yi touched her empty stomach and also pouted, "I’m also hungry. Where can we find food?"
"How should I know? I’m not a local."
Zhang Xian stood up and said, "Let’s go look for the Thousand Leaf Grass first. Once we find it, then we can leave."
Jing Yi and Luo Shuining pouted and reluctantly stood up. Everything felt so tiresome when they were hungry. So tiresome, incredibly tiresome.
"Sigh..."
Zhang Xian sighed at the girls’ reactions and said, "Shuining, I’ll carry you. I honestly don’t know how you two managed to train before."
"Okay..." Luo Shuining immediately jumped onto Zhang Xian’s back.
Jing Yi also wanted to be carried by Zhang Xian. However, she wouldn’t compete with Luo Shuining. Of all the people in the Qing Shui Nunnery, she loved her junior sister the most.
Zhang Xian wiped his nose, supported Luo Shuining’s thighs with both hands, and quickly moved forward.
"Huff..."
Jing Yi followed behind, looking frustrated.
"Huh? There’s a cave up ahead."
Suddenly, Luo Shuining pointed to a cave not far away. The cave was more than two meters high and around five meters wide.
Zhang Xian’s eyes scanned the area and started walking toward it.
At this moment, they were in a massive cave with a small river flowing through it. The path was littered with uneven stone walls and didn’t have any forks.
Seeing a flat, round cave up ahead immediately piqued his interest.
The large lizard they encountered earlier seemed to fit perfectly in this cave. Although he wasn’t sure, the cave could very likely be the lizard’s lair.
Besides, they hadn’t noticed any other caves on their way here.
"Could this be the lair of that big creature?" Jing Yi asked worriedly after entering the smaller cave.
Zhang Xian shook his head, "I’m not entirely sure. It could be, but it also might not be."
Luo Shuining pointed out, "Look, there are quite a few scratch marks upfront. Even if it’s not the lair of that big creature, it probably comes here often."
"Hmm..."Zhang Xian nodded in agreement.
After walking a little further, his eyes suddenly lit up.
Not far ahead, standing tall on a rock, was a plant about half an arm’s length high. Its entire body was dark green, a solitary figure — precisely the Thousand Leaf Grass they’d been searching for.
"Wow..." Luo Shuining exclaimed excitedly, "Zhang Xian, sister Jing Yi, look, it’s the Thousand Leaf Grass!"
Jing Yi nodded, her face relaxing into a smile. They had finally found what they came for after a perilous journey.
"These Thousand Leaf Grass plants are indeed proud." Zhang Xian said, looking at the plant with a smile.
He knew of many herbs like the Thousand Leaf Grass, but he’d seen only a few. This particular one was quite unique among the myriad of herbs. It grew in areas where no other plants could survive, solely on bare rocky terrain — much like a conceited princess.
"Now, we just need to find the Heartless Fruit." Jing Yi said with a smile.
Luo Shuining nodded, smiling brightly. Although she kept saying it was okay, she didn’t mean it. She just didn’t want her master and senior sister to risk their lives for her.
"We’ve got a problem. Someone is coming."
Suddenly, Zhang Xian’s face turned serious, "And that big creature is coming too. Seems like, it’s being chased."
"No... surely not?" Luo Shuining asked in surprise.
Jing Yi’s eyebrows furrowed upon hearing this. The one who could hunt down a beast with innate physical strength must be at the Peak Innate Realm at the very least. Beasts were stronger than humans.
"What should we do?" Luo Shuining panicked.
Jing Yi looked at Zhang Xian, "Zhang Xian, get the Thousand Leaf Grass first."
"There’s no time." Zhang Xian shook his head.
Just as he finished speaking, the ground shook abruptly, and a bloodied large lizard rushed into the cave at full speed.
Following the large lizard were a few human figures. Leading the way was an elder, dressed in a long gray robe, wearing a jade crown, with a long beard, conveying an aura reminiscent of an immortal.
Zhang Xian turned and scanned with his spiritual mind, startled by what he discovered. The elder leading the group was actually a Grandmaster.
Moreover, this team of five wasn’t just made up of one Grandmaster. Among the other four, there was also an elder at the Innate Realm.
"It’s the East China Sect’s people." Jing Yi’s face turned pale.
Seeing the newcomers, Luo Shuining was at a loss, her previously rosy face instantly turning as white as paper.
"Eh? There are actually people here?"
The gray-robed elder halted in surprise upon seeing Zhang Xian and the others.
Upon noticing the nearby Thousand Leaf Grass, he burst out laughing, "Good, we’ve found a stalk of Thousand Leaf Grass. Coming here was worthwhile after all."
"We discovered the Thousand Leaf Grass first." Zhang Xian replied.
The gray-robed elder was taken aback and then burst into laughter as did the other four. Was this person in front of them insane? Since when did the rule of first-come first-served apply when grabbing things?
Despite that, this young fellow was quite amusing, very naive and silly.
"Hmm? These two girls seem familiar, like they’re from Qing Shui Nunnery." A middle-aged man looked at Jing Yi and Luo Shuining.
After the gray-robed elder grinned at the remark, he replied disdainfully, "From the nearly defunct Qing Shui Nunnery? Dare their disciples venture into the Dragon Mountain Range? Aren’t they afraid of ending up in a beast’s belly?"
"Damn it..." Zhang Xian cursed under his breath before turning to Jing Yi and Luo Shuining, "You two, leave first."
Jing Yi looked at Zhang Xian, "What...what are you thinking?"
"These guys are too powerful, I can’t handle them, and it’s dangerous for you to stay." Zhang Xian said.
Luo Shuining asked, "You...You won’t come with us?"
"I’m not the type to allow something that’s within my grasp, like this Thousand Leaf Grass, to simply be taken away. You all go ahead, wait for me at our meeting point." Zhang Xian replied.
Luo Shuining shook her head, "If we run, we run together; otherwise, we don’t run at all."
"I promised your Master that I would protect you all. Do you want me to break my word?" Zhang Xian argued, "If you go now, I can find a way out; if you don’t, we all die. These bastards seem quite arrogant, they hardly take us seriously. Under these circumstances, do you really think they will mercifully let us go? We are in the Dragon Mountain Range."
Hesitating for a moment, Jing Yi asked, "How should we leave? They’re blocking the exit. If we head in the opposite direction, we’ll be lost."
"Don’t worry about that, I’ll create an opportunity for you." Zhang Xian assured her, "Although these five came from the direction we were heading towards, and we did not notice any other paths on the way, I don’t think a giant lizard would try to climb a rope. In other words, we probably overlooked the fact that the ropes are still there outside, you can simply climb them."
Before Luo Shuining could say anything, Jing Yi stated, "Alright. We’ll go first."
"Sister..." Luo Shuining protested.
Jing Yi cut her off, "Let’s go! If we stay, we’ll only hinder Zhang Xian. It would be better to leave and wait for news."
"Right, go now." Zhang Xian nodded.
Jing Yi looked at Zhang Xian, "Be careful. We’ll wait for you."
Zhang Xian nodded in response.
The next moment, he charged out suddenly, heading straight towards the Grandmaster, trailing a series of afterimages in his wake.
"This man’s speed, it’s so fast..." Jing Yi was shocked.
However, she didn’t have time to think. She grabbed Luo Shuining’s hand and focused on the battlefield, looking for an opportunity to escape. The enemy had five people—they had to be careful.
"Roar..."
Seeing Zhang Xian take action, the large lizard unhesitatingly charged towards the Grandmaster.
On the way here, it had been bullied enough by this damnable man. Now that it had the chance, it was determined to bite this old bastard to death.
"Eh? You dare to strike?" The gray-robed elder looked at Zhang Xian, surprise and disdain on his face.
As for the monster beside him, he didn’t take it seriously at all. As a Grandmaster, a creature in the Innate Realm meant nothing. The young man in front of him was no different from an ant—easily crushed underfoot. Even though he seemed fast, fast enough to compare with the Innate Realm, it didn’t affect him in the slightest.
"Where do you think you’re going..." Another elder in a green robe immediately moved, heading towards Jing Yi and Luo Shuining.
The difference in strength between the Innate and Houtian realms was clear as day. This man and Jing Yi and Luo Shuining were getting closer and closer at a visibly high speed—it seemed he was about to catch up.
"Hmm..."
Upon hearing a cold snort, Zhang Xian suddenly made a sharp turn and charged towards the expert at the Innate Realm, slapping him across the face.
"Slap..."
The green-robed elder was focusing on Jing Yi and Luo Shuining, wanting to stop the two women.
The moment he felt the force heading his way, it was too late to dodge. He was hit squarely. This inconspicuous youngster in front of him actually had the strength of the Innate Realm.
"You..." The gray-robed elder was enraged.
As the large lizard approached, he suddenly launched a fist, sending the already severely injured large lizard flying. It collided with a stone wall.
Then, he blinked towards Zhang Xian.
Damn this youngster, he was playing them. He had deliberately charged towards him, and then took the opportunity to cut down the expert of the Innate Realm, letting the two girls escape, which annoyed him very much.
What upset him even more was that the youngster had, right in front of him, slapped the green-robed elder away.
