Chapter 498: An Unusual Prescription_1
Chapter 498: Chapter 498: An Unusual Prescription_1
Han Xiangyu and Xiaolong were baffled for a moment when they saw Zhang Xian emerge unscathed, with no sign of commotion inside. Did this guy just go in for a stroll and then come out?
Da Meng and the dwarf stood up when they saw Zhang Xian, but they were not surprised. If a ruckus had erupted inside, now that would be odd!
"What’s going on?" Cao Jianxin asked, furrowing his brows.
Zhang Xian’s safe return irked him. To his mind, Zhang Xian should have died inside.
"Let’s go back!" said Zhang Xian.
Han Xiangyu was taken aback before asking, "Just like that? We haven’t completed our mission yet! What were you doing in there?"
Zhang Xian replied, "Who told you that the mission isn’t complete? Those guys are all dead. Do you expect us to stay here and mourn for them?"
"What? They’re all dead?" Han Xiangyu exclaimed.
Both Xiaolong and Cao Jianxin also looked disbelieving. If a battle had taken place, they could guess what happened. But nothing happened, so how could seven fierce bandits be dead?
"They’re all dead." Zhang Xian nodded and said, "I even stopped to relieve myself on the way out. Sorry to keep you waiting."
Han Xiangyu was somewhat incredulous, "Are you sure? Why was there no sound at all?"
"Why should there be any sound?" Zhang Xian replied. "They were sleeping so comfortably; I didn’t have the heart to wake them. So there was no commotion."
Xiaolong slapped his forehead in resignation. Could this guy be any more shameless? It’s one thing not to disturb those sleeping soundly, but how could he have no qualms about outright killing them?
"Damn it..." Cao Jianxin cursed under his breath, growing anxious.
If it was true that seven men inside had died without a sound, Zhang Xian’s abilities exceeded a terrifying level. Could he even handle such a presence?
That bastard Cao Zheng had actually set him up against such a formidable person. Could he be any more devious?
"I’m going to check."
Han Xiangyu snapped out of her disbelief and promptly sprinted inside.
Neither Xiaolong nor Cao Jianxin believed it. They closely followed Han Xiangyu into the courtyard.
When they came out again, their faces were filled with shock. The seven men inside were indeed dead, silently and without a struggle. And they had all died in their beds, caught unawares and killed. The firearms and ammunition scattered around the room made it easy to see: these were the terrorists they were supposed to find. And just like that, their mission was accomplished.
"Can we go back now?" asked Zhang Xian.
Han Xiangyu nodded, "Let’s go."
"Zhang Xian, you’re just too awesome!" Xiaolong gave Zhang Xian a heartfelt thumbs up.
Zhang Xian merely smiled and didn’t respond. Taking down a few bandits wasn’t something of great achievement for him. Unless, of course, these bandits were quite exceptional.
Cao Jianxin glanced at Zhang Xian and quietly moved to the end of the line, no longer daring to stand next to him.
At the same time, he also abandoned the idea of taking on Zhang Xian. Although money held considerable allure, it wasn’t as precious as his life. What good was money if you didn’t have your life?
...
The following day, early morning, after breakfast.
Despite the dwarf’s attempts to persuade him to stay, Zhang Xian had other matters to attend to.
Although things were almost settled with the Mo family, the issue with Nangong Wu was still unresolved. And now there’s the whole prophet business. He barely had a moment’s rest.
"Zhang Xian..."
In Sunset Town, at the Mu family mansion, Zhu Qing and Mu Cheng were relieved when they saw Zhang Xian return.
Even though Zhang Xian was highly capable, they were always worried when he left to attend to matters. They had no choice: Zhang Xian was formidable and had crossed paths with equally formidable foes. Peace was elusive.
"Qingqing, Elder Sister Cheng." Zhang Xian greeted cheerfully.
Han Xiangyu and the others nodded in greeting to Zhu Qing and Mu Cheng as well. Even Cao Jianxin, at that moment, was not showing off; he was behaving impeccably like a model child.
"We’ve prepared the food; let’s eat first!" Zhu Qing smiled.
Zhang Xian asked, "Did you make it?"
Zhu Qing grinned and replied, "Elder Sister Cheng and I did it together. You’ll just have to taste it and see."
"Zhang Xian! You have no idea, this girl has gone through a lot of trouble to become a good cook. All for you!" said Mu Cheng.
Zhang Xian looked at Zhu Qing in surprise, then laughed, "Really? Well, I should give it a taste then."
"Why are you all just standing there? Take a seat!" Zhu Qing addressed Han Xiangyu and the others.
Han Xiangyu and the others thanked her and took their seats by the table.
"Hmm! Very good." Zhang Xian tasted a bite and gave Zhu Qing a thumbs-up, "Unexpectedly, you have a talent for cooking. You’ve certainly mastered it."
Zhu Qing beamed with joy at his comment.
She’d taken up cooking for Zhang Xian. Now that her efforts had earned his recognition, they had been worth it.
"It really is good!" Han Xiangyu and the others also gave Zhu Qing a thumbs up.
Zhu Qing laughed and said, "If you all enjoy it, that’s great. I was worried it wouldn’t suit your tastes! Eat plenty, if it’s not enough, I can make more."
Han Xiangyu laughed in response, "We certainly won’t hold back then."
"Eat up!" Mu Cheng said, laughing.
With that, everyone around the table continued to eat and chat, enjoying the meal. Every now and then, Cao Jianxin would interject, adding to the lively atmosphere.
At this point, Cao Jianxin had completely abandoned the idea of going against Zhang Xian, and was not arguing with him anymore.
Zhang Xian wasn’t a petty man. He noticed Cao Jianxin was cowed by him, but as long as Cao didn’t do anything outrageous, he didn’t hold anything against the man.
Soon, the lively meal came to an end.
Taking advantage of the moment when Zhu Qing and Mu Cheng were tidying up the dishes, Zhang Xian said, "Qingqing, Elder Sister Cheng, there might be some trouble on Medicine Mountain soon. Would you like to go to Tiandu with me?"
"Ah? Go to Tiandu?" Zhu Qing’s eyes lit up.
Actually, she didn’t want to stay here, but she couldn’t leave Mu Cheng alone here. So, she hadn’t left.
The moment she heard Zhang Xian suggesting they both go with him, she immediately wanted to go.
"What will happen to Medicine Mountain if we leave?" Mu Cheng asked.
Zhang Xian replied, "Things have stabilised for now, and it should be fine if you leave for a while. Aren’t Da Meng and the others here too? I have to tell you, there is a powerful force targeting Medicine Mountain. If you both stay here and I’m not around, it could be dangerous. If you leave, that force might leave Da Meng and the others alone."
"What kind of force?" Mu Cheng was aware that Medicine Mountain might be in danger, but didn’t know the specifics.
Zhang Xian shook his head, "I don’t know yet. However, it’s certain that Medicine Mountain is not safe. That’s why I hope you both can go with me."
"Can’t you stay a while?" Mu Cheng didn’t really want to leave.
Zhang Xian responded, "I can’t stay. There’s a lot of things that need my attention in Tiandu, and I need to make a trip to Yanjing too. Right now, I just don’t have enough time."
"Sister, let’s go together!" Zhu Qing said. "I know you’re attached to Medicine Mountain, but can’t you shift some of your focus away from it?"
After a moment’s hesitation, Mu Cheng agreed, "Alright."
Seeing Mu Cheng agreeing, Zhang Xian grinned. As long as these two girls were with him, he wouldn’t have to worry about things here.
Those from The Divine Statements aiming at Medicine Mountain would surely target Mu Cheng and him first. As for Da Meng and the others, while it would not necessarily be safe, their lives shouldn’t be in danger.
"When are you leaving?" Mu Cheng asked.
Zhang Xian, grinning, replied, "Tomorrow. It will take us two days to get from here to Yanjing."
Mu Cheng exclaimed, "That soon?"
Zhang Xian responded with a bitter smile, "We have to go sooner or later, what does leaving two days earlier matter? Tomorrow, after lunch, we’ll head straight back to Yanjing."
With a bitter smile, Mu Cheng replied, "Alright then, I’ll do as you say."
...
Yanjing, Skynet HQ.
Old Man Han wasn’t surprised when he heard that the mission was completed. But when he was given the details, his lips twitched involuntarily.
Zhang Xian seemed to be stronger than he had expected, and was nearing the level of that mad old man.
All along, he considered that old man to be a phenomenon. But what he hadn’t expected was that the man’s pupil had surpassed the master, and was even more terrifying.
An Innate expert in his early twenties was unprecedented.
At least, to his knowledge, no one has broken through to the Innate level before turning thirty. Even from the Ancient Sects, there was no such monster.
"Zhang Xian, he is going to be terrifying in the future!"
Old Man Han laughed, "Fortunately, Zhang Xian is his disciple and is trustworthy. Otherwise, I fear we would have a catastrophe on our hands. The higher one climbs in the martial arts world, the harder it is to advance. Because of this difficulty, the power one possesses becomes more terrifying. Legendary experts are equivalent to a major weapon."
"What are you laughing about by yourself?" suddenly, a young man walked over and asked with a smile.
Old Man Han chuckled, "You’re back? I was just about to look for you!"
Zhang Xian asked, "What do you need me for?"
"You did a good job on this mission, no losses." Old Man Han smiled, "Have you ever considered staying on to work with me?"
Zhang Xian replied, "Not interested. And I hardly have any spare time."
Old Man Han grumbled, "You and your master are just the same, always on the go, never stopping."
"Well, isn’t that why I’m his student?" Zhang Xian grinned. He pulled out a sheet of paper, "Old man, I suddenly have a bad feeling. Take a look at this."
Old Man Han took the paper and asked frowning, "What is this? A plant?"
"I think it’s a prescription. A Skynet comrade gave it to me during the mission, asking me to bring it back for you. I don’t fully understand this prescription. But it mentions three ingredients that can affect the brain and neuro-system." Zhang Xian looked at Old Man Han and asked, "Do you know what this means?"
Old Man Han replied, "Explain."
Zhang Xian said, "I don’t know if my guess is right or not. But, I once heard my master talking about biochemical humans. I suspect this prescription has something to do with them."
