Chapter 32: Chapter 32 I’m Just a Commoner_1

The middle-aged man who was leading the group was completely flabbergasted, lying on the ground in shocked disbelief, staring vacantly at the emotionless Zhang Xian.

The other goons were equally terrified. There was a deep sense of fear in their eyes when they looked at Zhang Xian. They didn’t expect him to be so skilled, he had dealt with them as easily as though he was chopping vegetables.

"This guy is really powerful." Zhu Qing exclaimed in surprise.

She had thought Zhang Xian only knew magic tricks, she didn’t expect him to be so good at fighting. He had effortlessly knocked down seven seemingly formidable men.

"Ah..." Zhu Wen sighed and shook his head.

Zhu Wen had already seen Zhang Xian’s skills first-hand and wasn’t worried about these few men posing any significant threat.

However, they were involved with the underworld and it’s not like there were only seven of them, there could be seventy or even seven hundred. Could Zhang Xian take them all on?

"What are you all still doing lying on the ground? Do you really expect me to throw you out one by one?" Zhang Xian stared coldly at the seven men on the ground, as if he was a devil that had just emerged from hell.

Upon hearing those words, the seven men immediately jumped up from the ground and ran away hastily.

"Next time you come, you will all go back lying down." After seeing the seven men retreat, Zhang Xian helped Zhu Wen up and asked: "Old man Zhu, are you okay?"

"I’m fine, my body is very robust!" Zhu Wen shook his head, and asked, "Zhang Xian, how did you get involved with the underworld?"

Zhu Qing stared at Zhang Xian with a stern gaze. She was upset that he had brought trouble to their home.

"The underworld?" Zhang Xian was surprised, shook his head and said, "I really don’t know about that. I’ve never seen these guys before, if I had known earlier, I would have asked."

"It seems we won’t have peace from now on." Zhu Wen said with a bitter smile.

"No problem, if you want peace, I can make them leave us alone. If not, I can make them jump higher than the heavens." Zhang Xian didn’t care, and didn’t take those few guys seriously.

He is a cultivator after all, although he is at the very bottom of cultivators, that’s still not something ordinary people can compare with.

Zhu Wen saw Zhang Xian full of confidence, which eased his worries a lot. He blindly believed in Zhang Xian, not for anything else, just because Zhang Xian is the disciple of Master Gui.

"Humph, always causing trouble." Zhu Qing glared at Zhang Xian and said unhappily.

"Er, Qingqing, I didn’t cause trouble for you, right? Besides, my strengths certainly outweigh my weaknesses." Zhang Xian said, laughing pompously.

"What strengths do you have? How come I haven’t noticed?"

"I don’t know how to describe my strengths, but I only have one weakness, that is, having too many strengths, I’m just not good at enumerating them." Zhang Xian said laughingly, in a showy manner.

"You? Not even embarrassed!"

"I’m not embarrassed."

"You... why don’t you just die? I’ve never seen someone as shameless as you." Zhang Xian’s crude behavior irritated Zhu Qing and she exploded.

"Well, you are the conceited one? Why are you always dissing me?"

"How am I conceited?" Zhu Qing puffed up her cheeks in anger, glaring at Zhang Xian.

"How are you not conceited? Tell me."

"Ah... Zhang Xian, you’re doing it again... you’re so heartless, I’m going to kill you..."

"Damn, what are you doing? Don’t tug on my pants."

Zhu Wen found it amusing to see Zhang Xian and Zhu Qing at each other’s throats. The more he looked at them, the more compatible they seemed. Unfortunately, Zhang Xian already has a fiancé.

However, it seems the relationship between Zhang Xian and his fiancée isn’t going well. His granddaughter should still have a chance, after all, she’s a beauty and lives together with Zhang Xian. As they say, being near water makes one the first to fetch moonlight from it.

...

The next morning, Zhu Qing left for work after having her breakfast.

Zhang Xian didn’t spend much time at home either. He took the list and pictures of the medicinal herbs he had been analyzing the previous night, walked onto the main street, hailed a taxi, and headed directly to the medicinal herb market.

Everything else is a passing cloud, cultivation is the ultimate path. This was something he needed to settle as soon as possible, the sooner the better.

"Why, you’re quite early!"

Just as Miss Mu Cheng drove to the wholesale medicinal herb market, she saw Zhang Xian climbing out of a taxi.

"Elder Sister Cheng, good morning!" Zhang Xian greeted with a smile.

"Hold on a minute, let me park the car first." Miss Mu Cheng smiled and drove further in.

Zhang Xian looked around for a moment and followed quickly.

When Miss Mu Cheng returned, he asked curiously, "Elder Sister Cheng, this market seems to be bustling. Are these all your competitors?"

"No." Miss Mu Cheng shook her head and said, "In the entire Tiandu, I am the biggest and the only medicinal herb supplier. How can they be my competitors?"

"What do you mean?" Zhang Xian asked.

"Let me explain it to you this way!" Miss Mu Cheng explained, "What I do is different from them. Although we both deal in medicinal herbs, they operate with common medicinal herbs while I only deal in wild medicinal herbs. So, we’re not on the same path. As of now, in the entire Tiandu City, I’m the only one who provides wild medicinal herbs, while most of the others are artificially cultivated common medicinal herbs."

"Is that so?" Zhang Xian was surprised, "Doesn’t that mean your competitors have no way out?"

"You think these channels are easy to find?" boasted Mu Cheng. "Little Xian Xian, this business is exclusive to your elder sister!"

Upon hearing this, Zhang Xian felt relieved. Mu Cheng dealt in wild medicinal herbs, while other suppliers provided artificially cultivated ones — there was a significant difference between the two.

In TianDu City, there might be many who sell common medicinal herbs, but only Mu Cheng sold wild ones.

After learning this, he was secretly relieved to have found the right person. If he hadn’t established a connection with Mu Cheng, it would have been highly difficult for him to buy the herbs he wanted in TianDu City.

"Come with me first." Mu Cheng led the way up front.

Zhang Xian nodded and took out the prepared info about the herbs, saying, "Elder Sister Cheng, please take a look at these herbs and see if you can source them."

Mu Cheng looked through the information and sounded surprised, "Little Xian Xian, you seem to know quite a lot of herbs! And they are quite expensive too, even if they aren’t the most top-notch. But where did you get this information? The names are all so weird. If not for the illustrations, I wouldn’t have been able to recognize them. The names you’ve given differ greatly from ours."

"I read bout them in ancient books, so I guess they might be slightly different from contemporary ones." said Zhang Xian with a smile.

Since the origins of these medicinal herbs were ancient, he had memorized all of them. As he was afraid time might have caused some changes, he accompanied each herb in his notes with an illustration.

"I can get hold of every one of these that you’ve listed." After reading through his notes, Mu Cheng said, "But there are a few rare ones that I can’t guarantee, if they run out of stock over there, I can only amass regrets."

"Of course, as long as Elder Sister Cheng has tried her best, that’s fine by me." Zhang Xian nodded.

"Wow, you really have no shame, what gives me the obligation to try my best for you?" Mu Cheng looked at Zhang Xian and said, "I’m not afraid to tell you the truth: I really dislike you."

Zhang Xian froze, his eyes wide open. What did she mean? Why would she dislike him? This was illogical!

After stealing a glance at Mu Cheng, he asked softly, "Um... Elder Sister Cheng, I don’t seem to have offended you, have I? Why do you dislike me? I’m somewhat baffled!"

"Do I need a reason to dislike you?" Mu Cheng retorted.

"I....." Zhang Xian was speechless.

"Look at you, behaving like this," Mu Cheng cast a disdainful glance at Zhang Xian, "First, tell me why you need these herbs. I have always been curious."

"Well... I need them for something, that’s all I can say," Zhang Xian replied weakly.

It seemed like he had offended Mu Cheng in some way, but he had no idea how. He often offended women unknowingly, and struggled to understand why.

"Not talking? I don’t even want to know!" Mu Cheng pouted her lips and said, "Come with me. I have two types of the herbs you want right now, but they are not in large quantities; they’re just extras."

"It’s okay, I can wait. But when are you going to restock?", Zhang Xian asked with a smile.

"Why do I feel like you’re really eager about it?" Mu Cheng chuckled. "I’m sorry but the next restock will be a few days later. You’ll have to wait."

Zhang Xian was a bit torn, but said nothing. Having access to the channels was a good start. Besides, he felt that he could avoid a lot of troubles by working with Mu Cheng because of her relationship with Zhu Qing.

Once he reached the warehouse with Mu Cheng and registered, he collected two types of medicinal herbs. However, they were rather expensive. He had spent over ten thousand, even after a friendly discount.

As it turned out, cultivation was indeed expensive - he had to spend nearly a hundred thousand to prepare one dosage of medicinal herbs.

"What are you thinking about?" Mu Cheng nudged Zhang Xian.

"Uh... I’m not thinking about anything," Zhang Xian said with a smile. "Elder Sister Cheng, thank you. You’ve really helped me out a lot this time."

"Oh? How are you planning to thank me?" Mu Cheng asked with a smile.

"Treat you to a meal?" Zhang Xian asked.

"So cliché, you are really cliché." Mu Cheng looked at him disdainfully.

"Ah, okay! It’s all my fault for being so mundane." Zhang Xian gave a bitter smile and asked, "So, Elder Sister Cheng, would you like to have a meal with this mundane person?"

"Can’t you think of something different?" Mu Cheng felt the method of repayment was too simple, and insincere.

"I’m a mundane man, I can only do mundane things. I have no choice."

Mu Cheng gave Zhang Xian a glare, and with a look of disappointment on her face, she walked off. She had initially thought that Zhang Xian might surprise her, but it seemed he was no different from other men.

Zhang Xian followed, feeling rather awkward. As someone who had never courted a girl before, he couldn’t think of anything new or innovative.

"Um... Miss Mu Cheng, please wait a moment."

A middle-aged man suddenly approached them holding a bouquet of roses as they left the market, smiling and saying, "These are roses given to you by our boss. Please accept them."

"There is a trash can over there where you can dispose of them directly." Mu Cheng didn’t intend to stop.

"Um, these were given by our boss, you really should accept them! Otherwise, I wouldn’t know how to report back to him." The middle-aged man hastily followed with a smile.

"Does it matter if you throw them away directly or hand them to me and then throw them away? In any case, aren’t they going to be thrown away anyway? Your boss shouldn’t be watching over you, right?" Mu Cheng impatiently said.

Zhang Xian, getting annoyed as well, stepped forward and said, "Listen, brother, you need to know when to quit. Stop bothering people, okay?"

"Damn, you petty thief! It’s none of your damn business, piss off!" As soon as the middle-aged man saw this insignificant person daring to show off, he immediately lashed out in anger.

Zhang Xian’s mouth twitched unnaturally. He walked over, grabbed the middle-aged man and gave him a good thrashing, not stopping until the man and his roses were both wilted.

"Not bad, you are pretty good at fighting." Suddenly, Mu Cheng’s eyes brightened and she looked at Zhang Xian and laughed, "Little Xian Xian, thank you. I suddenly thought of an excellent way for you to repay me. Want to hear it?"
