Chapter 461: Chapter 470: Make a Bet
Little Grace was dumbfounded. For her, the thought of losing her parents had never even crossed her mind. She held Charlotte tightly, unable to say a word.
John Brown sighed and said, "Little Grace, Charlotte has been really upset these past two days. Try to spend more time talking with her."
"Oh." Little Grace nodded instinctively.
"Charlotte, I’ll wait for you at the school gate. If you want to go out with your classmates, I’ll leave. If you don’t, we’ll head home later."
Charlotte let go of Little Grace, wiped away her tears, and said to John, "Uncle, I’m heading in now."
"Go ahead. I know you’re strong, Charlotte. We don’t need our classmates’ sympathy."
Charlotte wiped her eyes again, holding back her sobs, and said, "I’ll definitely stay strong." But tears still betrayed her, sliding down her cheeks.
"Go on, Uncle will be at the school gate. You can call me if you don’t see me."
"Mm!" Charlotte nodded again before walking inside with Little Grace.
Standing at the school gate, John couldn’t help recalling his own parents. They had also left so suddenly, and at that time, he felt just as helpless as Charlotte. Back then, Melody Yoody had cared deeply for him, comforting him, which had helped him get through that painful Chapter of his life. Now, Melody was pregnant with his child, and Gina Lopez’s attitude was so adamant that perhaps he really should be with Melody, raising their child properly.
But it seemed a bit too early for that. He needed some time to sort out his own affairs first, so he could handle everything properly. He didn’t want his past mistakes to bring any danger or harm to the people involved now.
Coincidentally, Gina Lopez was driving past Charlotte’s school today and instantly spotted John smoking by the gate. Gina felt a surge of joy and wanted to approach him to express her lingering feelings. However, John hadn’t reached out to her, and coupled with what she saw at the airport yesterday, she assumed his matters weren’t settled yet. She didn’t dare to greet him.
But driving past him so casually felt unsatisfactory. She stopped her car at the roadside near the school gate, got out, and entered a shop. Throughout this process, she kept watching John with her peripheral vision, hoping he would notice her constant attention towards him.
After buying a bottle of water, Gina Lopez slowly walked back to her car. Although she sensed John glancing at her, she feared any reaction from him might interfere with his affairs. Pretending they were strangers, she gave him a sharp glare before driving away.
After all this, Gina felt proud of herself. She was convinced that her behavior wouldn’t raise suspicions from anyone, and seeing John had left her heart fluttering with sweetness.
What she didn’t know was that her actions had sent John another confusing signal. Originally hesitating to go and talk to her, John felt his heart sink under Gina’s sharp look. He thought if Gina wouldn’t forgive him, it might be best to let go of this relationship entirely. Perhaps this was its own kind of release—without Gina harboring resentment, forcing them to stay together would only lead to more misery.
After waiting for over an hour, Charlotte and several classmates walked out of school together. Although her smile was strained, it appeared less sorrowful.
"Charlotte, Little Grace, you’re really not coming along?" A boy stopped in front of them at the school gate.
Charlotte shook her head and said, "I’m not going. I’ve got things to do at home."
Little Grace added, "I’m going to keep Charlotte company. You all have fun. We can hang out together some other time."
The pair exchanged farewells with their classmates and walked toward John.
As soon as they reached him, Charlotte said, "Uncle, Little Grace wants to come to our house. Is that okay?"
"Of course." John readily agreed. Having someone like Little Grace, close in age to Charlotte, could help take her mind off her parents’ loss.
Hailing a cab, John brought the girls back to his modest home. He lent Little Grace a pair of Emma Campbell’s slippers to wear.
Little Grace entered and started looking around, grinning as she said to Charlotte, "So you really live with him, huh?"
Charlotte replied proudly, "Yeah, we sleep together every night."
John’s face visibly darkened. Older girls often held their privacy dear, yet someone Charlotte’s age might boast about such matters instead.
"Oh my goodness, you’re really not innocent anymore. I’m not going to be friends with you," Little Grace said, pulling her neck back but eventually settling herself on the sofa.
Charlotte handed Little Grace a drink, sitting beside her, and teased, "You’re just jealous, aren’t you? Uncle spoils me wonderfully."
At that point, John had to oblige Charlotte, so he smiled and asked, "Would you girls prefer to eat at home or go out?"
Charlotte quickly chimed, "We want to eat at home. I love Uncle’s cooking!"
"Alright, I’ll go buy some groceries then. You two can hang out here."
Once John left, Charlotte dragged Little Grace to explore the bedroom. Little Grace stuck out her tongue and said, "I thought you were joking, but it turns out you were serious. There’s only this one bedroom—it looks like you really do share it every night."
Charlotte didn’t boast too much in front of Little Grace. She giggled mischievously and touched her chest, saying, "Not exactly. Uncle only touched me here today."
"Touched you here? And you let him?!"
"Why not? It feels so nice. You’ve never been touched by a man, so you wouldn’t understand. It’s such a great sensation. If you hadn’t rushed me earlier, I could’ve let Uncle touch me more. I’ll make up for it tonight for sure."
Little Grace pursed her lips and said, "You’re so shameless. Girls shouldn’t let men touch their chests so freely."
"Of course, not just anyone can touch me. But Uncle is different—I adore him. I’ve pestered him for ages before he agreed. Still, I’m really worried he’s only indulging me now because he fears I’m heartbroken. Maybe he’ll eventually go back to how he used to behave."
Charlotte’s mood sank as she spoke. Little Grace quickly said, "I don’t think that will happen. Charlotte, you’re so pretty and have such a great figure. If Uncle already touched you, he must really like you."
"I hope so. Anyway, my parents are gone now, so I’ll cling to him no matter what. He has no choice but to accept me."
Little Grace realized that whenever she brought up other topics, Charlotte would lose interest but would perk up when discussing John. Plus, she was curious about the dynamics between Charlotte and Emily Smith. She asked, "Charlotte, you said you’ve been living together all this time. Hasn’t he ever touched you before now?"
"He didn’t. That’s why I like him so much. Uncle’s not the kind of man who takes advantage of others. No matter how I tried to tempt him, he held back. But the other day... hehe, I finally did something incredible."
"What did you do?" Little Grace’s eyes sparkled with curiosity.
"I... grabbed Uncle’s thing."
"What?" Little Grace’s face turned bright red.
"I mean I grabbed that thing guys have. Hehe, and not through his pants—I touched it directly. Uncle’s thing is so big, hard like an iron rod. Do you think if he entered me, it’d hurt a lot?"
Little Grace blushed even deeper, spat at Charlotte, and scolded, "You’re so shameless!"
"I have to be bold when it comes to Uncle. Hey, Little Grace, have you ever touched a guy’s thing?"
"No, no..." Little Grace waved her hands and shook her head repeatedly.
"It’s really fun! At first, it’s soft and not too big, but after touching it a few times, it gets huge and hard. Haha. Anyway, you wouldn’t understand without a boyfriend. Talking about it won’t make sense to you."
Charlotte’s smug expression made Little Grace feel embarrassed. She tilted her head up and said, "Who says I don’t understand? That happens because of blood flow."
"Huh? How do you know? Have you seen it before?"
Little Grace pursed her lips and said, "You don’t have to see it. You can read about it."
"But you haven’t actually experienced it, so you’re still not on my level."
"Hmph, it’s not that I don’t want to. If I wanted to, I could have tons of guys lining up for me to touch them."
"Yeah, right. You’re all talk. If it really happened, you’d probably chicken out."
"Get real. I’m about to go to college—I’m practically an adult. Why would I fear something like that?"
"Oh really? Want to try it when Uncle gets back?"
"You’re crazy—that’s your Uncle, not mine!"
"We’re besties, aren’t we? I won’t be stingy. I’ll let you give it a try. You wouldn’t dare, though, would you?"
"Who says I wouldn’t?" Little Grace glared at Charlotte sharply; she couldn’t stand being underestimated.
Charlotte giggled and said, "I don’t believe you. When the time comes, you’re sure to bolt."
"I wouldn’t!"
"How about we make a bet?"
"Bet it is. I’m the one touching him, not the other way around—you’re the one taking the loss anyway."
"Alright, then it’s settled. If you don’t dare, you’ll have to bark like a dog three times."
"If I do dare, you’ll have to bark like a dog three times."
"Deal. Let’s see who ends up barking like a dog."
"It’ll definitely be you!"
"It’ll definitely be you!"
The two girls played and argued, full of youthful energy. Teenagers are always bold, especially when it comes to things they haven’t yet experienced. Even girls who seem shy are daring in private settings, especially among friends.
