Chapter 440: Chapter 447: Running Away from Home

"Why so unconvinced?" Helen raised an eyebrow at James, speaking smugly, "Look at the Mysterious Figure. He may not be very handsome, but he possesses a rare kind of composure and charisma among men. Even the most formidable enemy is nothing in his presence. A mere gesture from him is enough to make them vanish into ashes. And look at you, spending your days tangled up with women. Whenever trouble arises, you shrink back immediately. Sigh... how can the difference between two men be so vast?"

James chuckled dryly and said, "If you admire him so much, why don’t you offer yourself to him?"

"Hmph, a grand figure like him would never be like you, only thinking of those trivial matters. Let me tell you, last time he was testing me, I saw right through him. That’s why I didn’t agree. But if the opportunity comes again, I’ll definitely say yes without hesitation."

James nodded repeatedly, "Then I wish you all the best in achieving your desires."

Helen smiled slyly at James and said, "You scoundrel! Aren’t you jealous? I’m practically putting a green hat on you!"

"Of course I’m jealous! But in your eyes, that Mysterious Figure is so superior that I can’t compare with him. What else can I do?"

"Hmph, you just want me to break away from you so I don’t affect your life. Don’t even think about it!"

James rolled his eyes, "You already have the Mysterious Figure; what do you need me for?"

Helen smirked triumphantly, "If you’re allowed to have a wife and still mess with other women, then obviously I can too."

James’ face darkened instantly. Helen’s perspective was truly bold, but surprisingly, he didn’t feel upset. After all, that Mysterious Figure was none other than himself. In the end, it’s all still himself.

"Hey James, how about when you and the Mysterious Figure are both here, we play together?" Helen leaned against James, blinking playfully at him.

"Play together? Oh, hell no, you aren’t thinking about having a threesome, are you?"

Helen grinned mischievously, "Why not? You’re the man I like, and he is, too. Wouldn’t it be perfect if we all came together?"

As Helen spoke, she was genuinely laughing with delight. This rascal had been hiding things from her all along, refusing to utter even a single word. She had to give him some tricky situations to see how he’d handle them.

"This... isn’t the taste a bit too bold?" James chuckled nervously, his face somewhat grim.

Helen shot him a glare, "Don’t tell me you’ve never thought about having two women at the same time? Why is it that you can imagine them serving you, but you can’t handle the idea of both men serving me?"

"No, no way! I can’t accept that. Don’t even think about it," James exclaimed, his eyes glaring.

"Selfish man, hmph." Helen watched James’s expression and felt even more delighted inside.

At that moment, Helen’s phone rang. She picked up hurriedly, and after hearing the message, she jumped to her feet, saying, "Got it. I’ll head over immediately." With that, she rushed to the door.

"Hey, where are you going?"

Helen, frantically putting on her shoes, looked up at him and said, "The case has made progress. A surveillance camera caught sight of that person."

James froze, quickly getting to his feet, saying, "I’m coming with you."

"What’s the point of you coming? I’m working on the case," Helen said, running out of the house without another word.

James stood at the doorway, put on his shoes, but didn’t immediately chase after her. At this point, chasing wouldn’t accomplish much. If the camera had really caught him, then this matter would have to be made public, and that wasn’t a big deal. If it hadn’t caught him, he could continue hiding as usual.

Helen hadn’t returned when James thought things through. Joseph had come looking for him, and though he didn’t kill him this time, Joseph absolutely wouldn’t give up easily. Furthermore, Joseph, as a member of the Terrorist Organization, could do anything. Everyone around James was in grave danger—Gina, Grace, and Emma especially.

Before running into Joseph, James believed he could protect the women around him even if trouble emerged. But now, he suddenly realized that his existence was the very thing drawing danger to them. The closer they were to him, the greater the risk they faced.

The best solution now was to eliminate Joseph for good, so he could no longer pose a threat. But achieving that with only his own strength seemed implausible.

James picked up the phone and dialed a number he hadn’t called for a long time but remembered like the back of his hand.

"Michael Hall!" Two rings later, the call was picked up, followed by an exhilarating shout from the other end.

"James Silver, calm down, will you?" A surge of emotions overwhelmed James as he suppressed them and spoke cheerfully.

"Damn it, you disappeared without a word, didn’t bid us farewell. That’s downright unreasonable!"

"If I’d said goodbye, I could never have left. So I had to make a quiet exit."

"You clearly don’t value us as brothers. Everyone’s been itching to find you and beat you up."

"Haha, my skin’s too delicate to withstand beating from you beasts. Enough joking. I’ve run into some issues and need your help. It’s personal, but also Hawk Squad’s duty."

"Stop wasting words. What kind of nonsense is this between us? We’ve been idle lately with no missions. This gives us the perfect excuse to visit you for a holiday."

The deep camaraderie between brothers stirred a tinge of sorrow in James’s heart. Compared to his complicated relationships with women, this brotherhood allowed him to feel more relaxed. He chuckled, "Alright then, bring along some skilled hands. The opponent is John Miller’s younger brother, who has taken over his Terrorist Organization and come to YODC City to retaliate against me. I can’t handle them alone."

"So it’s that guy. But you killed John Miller, so what’s his brother worth? This’ll be a vacation for us. We’ll arrive tomorrow afternoon."

As James stepped out of Helen’s house, his home phone rang. Casually answering the call, there was a momentary silence on the other end, making him realize instantly it was Gina. With a sigh, he said, "Gina, you’re home."

"Yes, come back. I want to talk to you."

"Okay!" James agreed without hesitation and hung up.

Twenty minutes later, James sat on his living room couch with Gina, while Emily Lopez sat beside her sister, her face full of worry.

"James, I’ve been thinking about our situation these last couple of days..." Gina’s tone was heavy.

James looked calmly at Gina. From her not calling him ’husband,’ he could guess her decision. "Gina, I know I’ve wronged you deeply. I don’t intend to make excuses. Whatever decision you make, I’ll accept it."

Gina’s face stiffened momentarily. Her gaze at James was complex. Taking a deep breath, she said, "I can accept your past entanglements with other women. But now that Emily Berns is pregnant with your child, I can’t reconcile myself to it. Nor can I bear letting the child grow up without a father. So..."

James sighed, "Yes, I have to face the situation. Even though I never loved Emily Berns, the child is still mine, and I must take responsibility. However, even if I find the child, I won’t marry Emily Berns. A child alone isn’t enough reason to keep two people together."

Emily Lopez got excited upon hearing James’ words. She grabbed her sister’s arm and said, "Sis, did you hear that? Brother-in-law won’t be with Emily Berns. Once the child is found, you can raise it together. If you don’t like that idea, I can raise the child myself, be her mom if necessary. Just don’t divorce him!"

Gina hesitated for a moment. James, on the other hand, smiled faintly and said, "Emily, this is my responsibility. I can’t let you or your sister bear it for me."

James turned his tender gaze toward Gina, sincerely saying, "Gina, thank you for the life we built together. You gave me a sense of home. You’ve been a wonderful wife, and I’ve been happy during our time together. But I haven’t been a good husband. What I owe you, I’ll never be able to repay."

Gina bit her lip, facing James’s gaze, her emotions in turmoil. James was her only man now; how could she let go so easily? But Emily Berns was pregnant with his child. She couldn’t bear to leave a child fatherless.

"Gina, Emily, thank you both!" James said with subtle resolve as he stood. After taking one last deep look at them, he silently turned and left.

"Brother-in-law! You can’t go!" Emily jumped up in panic, running after James. She threw her arms around his waist from behind and burst into tears, sobbing, "Brother-in-law, please don’t go. Emily is begging you. My sister loves you—really loves you. She’s just upset; her anger will pass."

James gently patted Emily’s hand, "Emily, I love your sister too. But love doesn’t always mean staying together. I need to leave for now." With a soft maneuver, he freed himself from her grasp, quickly opened the door, and slipped out.

"Brother-in-law! Brother-in-law!" Emily chased him to the elevator, but there was no indicator of its use. Rushing to the stairway, she saw no trace of him. Shattered, she leaned against the wall, choking back sobs, "Brother-in-law, how could you leave... Emily doesn’t want to lose you!"

From inside the house came Gina’s heart-wrenching cries, filled with profound sorrow.
