Chapter 403: Chapter 410: 2 Paths

"Hmph, nothing to say now, huh? You bastard, marrying someone else but having me bear your child, do I owe you something in this life?" Melody Yoody’s anger surged up again when she saw John Brown’s expression.

John Brown hastily held Melody Yoody tight, anxiously said, "Don’t be angry, don’t be angry, let’s talk it out properly."

"Are you concerned about the child or me?" Melody Yoody stubbornly glared at John Brown, waiting for his answer.

"Of course, I’m concerned about you. If we lose the child, we can try again, but if your health is harmed because of it, I’d be heartbroken."

For a pregnant woman, John Brown could only put Gina Lopez aside and focus solely on coaxing Melody Yoody.

Women generally have a bigger temper during pregnancy, which is normal, but Melody Yoody, feeling wronged, had an even bigger temper. She forcefully pinched John Brown and said through gritted teeth, "You make it sound easy. If I lose this child, I’ll never be able to get pregnant again in my life."

John Brown was startled, holding Melody Yoody tighter but careful not to press on her stomach, cautiously asked, "Why do you say that?"

"Humph, scared now? I knew you were married and didn’t want this child. Who knew a check-up at the hospital would say this is my only chance in life to have a child? The miscarriage with you before had left me with sequelae, so being pregnant this time is already very lucky."

"Then we’re even luckier than winning the lottery. We’ve tried twice, and the last time was just a few days ago, isn’t that like hitting the bullseye?"

"Get lost, you still have the mood to joke. Now, what are you going to do? I’m definitely having this child. I can’t go through life not being a mother. I can’t let this child be born without a father, can I?"

"That’s definitely not acceptable," John Brown replied very directly.

"Then divorce Gina Lopez now and marry me," Melody Yoody was equally direct.

John Brown was stumped. If he hadn’t married Gina Lopez, he would certainly marry Melody Yoody at this point. But now that he was already married, bringing up divorce made him feel like he couldn’t make such a decision.

"Humph, I knew your feelings were insincere." Melody Yoody snorted, pushed John Brown away, and turned to walk towards the sofa.

John Brown quickly followed her, ready to protect her at any moment, afraid she would fall.

Feeling John Brown’s tension, Melody Yoody couldn’t help but feel a bit of happiness in her heart, but thinking of John Brown marrying Gina Lopez made her quite angry again.

After sitting down, Melody Yoody glared at John Brown and said, "There are two options now: divorce Gina Lopez and marry me, or I find some man and marry him, giving the child a stepfather. I believe even knowing the child isn’t theirs, someone would be willing to take over."

"No!" John Brown immediately shouted with wide eyes.

"Why are you shouting?" Melody Yoody glared back at John Brown and said, "Are you saying the first option isn’t possible, the second option isn’t possible, or neither?"

Melody Yoody knew very well that John Brown’s yell was entirely because of the second option, and she deliberately used it to agitate him. She hadn’t been in a good mood these days, and annoying John Brown felt surprisingly good.

John Brown took out a cigarette, about to light it, but hurriedly threw it onto the table, which made Melody Yoody’s lips curl into a slight smile. She knew it was because she was pregnant, and he didn’t want to smoke in front of her anymore.

"Melody, this really puts me in a difficult position. Can you...give me some time?"

Seeing the difficult expression on John Brown’s face, Melody Yoody’s heart softened, and she gently sighed, "Alright, I won’t force you. Do your best. Don’t worry, I won’t find a stepfather for our child. No matter how hard it is for me, I’ll raise this child."

"Melody!" John Brown held Melody Yoody’s hand, his voice suddenly choked with emotion.

Melody Yoody pulled John Brown close, letting his head rest on her leg. The gesture was so natural, even after seven or eight years without doing it, it didn’t feel awkward now.

"Don’t feel bad, I was just losing my temper with you earlier. You’re a grown man, yet you’re crying like this."

Ever since joining the army, John Brown hadn’t cried, but at this moment, he truly wanted to. In front of Melody Yoody, he never had to pretend to be so strong because Melody Yoody was with him during his most vulnerable times, and she’d seen all his weaknesses.

If Melody Yoody spent the whole time throwing a fit, hitting and scolding him, John Brown might feel a lot better. At least it would let Melody Yoody vent a little, which could lessen his emotional burden. But not only did Melody Yoody not get mad, she even came over to comfort him, which made John Brown’s heart ache more with guilt towards her.

Leaning on Melody Yoody’s leg, hugging her waist, reminded both him of the past. When he was bullied, Melody Yoody comforted him like this, and pressing his face against Melody’s belly calmed his heart, feeling as if the little life inside her also sensed it.

The door opened, Michael Wilson walked in, holding a large bouquet of fiery red roses. But seeing the posture between John Brown and Melody Yoody, his face turned livid, teeth gnashing, eyes blood-red as if he wanted to tear John Brown apart.

John Brown didn’t get up, and Melody Yoody didn’t ask him to. Her hand was still gently caressing John Brown’s face as she said to Michael Wilson, "Mr. Carter Jr., you’re here."

The calmness in her voice almost drove Michael Wilson to madness, and he yelled angrily, "Melody Yoody, what do you mean by this?"

Melody Yoody smiled faintly and said, "I don’t mean anything. I’m with my man, do I need to report to Young Master Woods?"

"Nonsense, do you know what your status is right now?"

"Of course I know, but even if I’m a mayor, I still have the right to date and the right to be affectionate with my man, don’t I?"

"You... don’t forget, we’re about to be engaged."

Melody Yoody smiled slightly and said, "You know it’s just ’about to,’ right? As long as we’re not married, I have the right to be with another man."

"You... you bitch!" Michael Wilson was furious. With his status, he could have any woman he wanted, and women more beautiful than Melody Yoody were easy to find. But he was so devoted to being with Melody Yoody not just because of family reasons but because she was always lukewarm towards him. That kind of hard-to-get feel was what made him determined to marry Melody Yoody.

He could endure her indifference because once she became his wife, things would naturally be fine. But seeing another man resting on her legs was something he couldn’t handle and he raised his hand to slap Melody Yoody’s face.

Only a hand suddenly reached out and grabbed his wrist, then John Brown slowly sat up, with a cold glint in his eyes, said distinctly, "Don’t touch my woman!" With each word, John Brown sat up more, turning his hand over, forcing Michael Wilson’s body to twist.

By the time John Brown sat up, Michael Wilson was already kneeling on the floor with a thud, not because John Brown scared him, but because John Brown twisted his arm in such a way that kneeling was the only option unless he wanted his arm broken.

Hearing John Brown’s few words, Melody Yoody’s eyes filled with a sudden infatuation. The John Brown she knew before never had such dominance, but this commanding presence, although slightly unfamiliar, made Melody Yoody like him more than ever. He was no longer the boy who needed her protection and comfort, but a man who stood tall and strong.

"Let go! Let go! Damn it, let go of me!" Michael Wilson, kneeling, tried to struggle, but moving caused his arm such pain it felt broken, leaving him only capable of swearing through clenched teeth.

John Brown’s wrist flicked again gently, nearly causing Michael Wilson’s head to hit the floor, startling a cry out of him. With no time to curse, he quickly placed his other hand on the ground to support himself.

"You dare hit me, you dare hit me!" Michael Wilson screamed hoarsely. All his life, it was him bullying others, forcing people to kneel. But now, being forced to kneel before John Brown, this was something he couldn’t accept, and he couldn’t stop repeating those words.

Melody Yoody had been enjoying the moment with John Brown, but the sudden turn of events made her panic. With Michael Wilson’s significant family background, it wouldn’t be hard for him to hurt John Brown. She frantically grabbed John Brown’s hand and said urgently, "Let him go quickly."

John Brown, obedient at this time to whatever Melody Yoody said, immediately released his hand and softly asked, "Were you scared?"

Melody Yoody gave John Brown a sideways glance, her eyes originally full of reproach now softened with affection, knowing that he reacted because Michael Wilson had tried to hit her.

Michael Wilson got up rubbing his right wrist with his left hand, his face twisted and said through gritted teeth, "Fine, kid. Last time, I let it slide, but this time you dare hit me. If I don’t bring you down, I’ll spell my name backward."

This wasn’t just a threat from Michael Wilson. His murderous intent was real, wanting to make John Brown pay with his life to vent his anger.
