Chapter 401: Chapter 408 Getting More and More Outrageous

Gina Lopez had left, leaving Lucy Campbell to resume her role as John Brown’s little secretary. She took care of him so attentively that what had originally felt like a tedious and flavorless job now seemed quite enjoyable. At least it made time fly—before he knew it, the workday was over.

During dinner, Emily Jenkins, the unapologetic foodie, joined them as one of the household’s new members. Lucy had already notified her about the move. True to her carefree nature, Emily was deeply appreciative but quickly brushed it off and began chatting with Lucy without any special note of thanks.

Everyone was used to Emily’s personality and didn’t mind. In fact, they found her straightforward demeanor quite endearing and easy to get close to.

"Brother-in-law, did you know that last time, the guy you beat up—John Smith—wanted to hire someone to get revenge on you?" Sandra asked John during dinner.

Gina’s face immediately tensed, and she anxiously asked, "What’s he planning to do?"

Lucy continued eating elegantly but stole a glance at John, a faint smile tugging at her lips.

Emily cut in enthusiastically, "Who dares to mess with Big Brother Brown? Big Brother Brown, you should just take him down!" Emily, being her direct self, regarded John as a very decent person. Anyone causing problems for him automatically fell into her "bad guy" category.

Sandra chuckled, "No worries! Our school’s principal found out about it and directly warned John Smith to stay out of trouble here. He could only leave in disgrace."

John frowned slightly and asked Sandra, "Are you still getting close to Michael Carter?"

Although Gina was relieved the issue was resolved, she immediately grew curious about this Michael Carter and asked, "Who is Michael Carter?"

Sandra giggled and said, "Let brother-in-law explain; he knows him too."

Gina promptly turned her focus to John, and he explained, "Michael Carter is the principal at Sandra’s school. He’s around thirty years old, looks decent, comes from a good family. His father, Nathaniel Johnson, is fairly well-off, with a few billion in assets and a family-owned film and entertainment company."

"Those are pretty impressive credentials," Gina remarked, her face showing a trace of excitement.

John shook his head and commented, "But I don’t think much of Michael Carter. He’s too calculating—a man with a heavy mind. Someone like Sandra, with her mischievous streak, might end up at a disadvantage if they were together."

"Really? I think men who are a bit reserved are a sign of depth and maturity," Gina said, furrowing her brows. She didn’t entirely agree with John’s assessment.

John persisted, "Maturity is reflected in how someone handles matters, but it should pair with sincerity. With Michael Carter, it’s hard to gauge his true nature. People like him can be quite dangerous—you can never know what they’re really thinking. Sandra’s forthright personality wouldn’t be able to handle someone like that."

Sandra clapped her hands in agreement and quipped, "See? Brother-in-law understands me best! I don’t like Michael Carter either!"

Gina rolled her eyes at the two and said, "Now even my brother-in-law knows you better than I do?"

Sandra giggled and remarked, "You both have my best interests at heart, but your motives differ. Sis, ever since you got married, you’ve become like Mom—you’re all for me marrying off soon. Brother-in-law, on the other hand, only considers how I can avoid getting hurt. He’s truly looking out for me."

Lucy chimed in, "I think John’s right. A man like Michael isn’t well-suited for Sandra."

Gina conceded, "Fine, fine. If you all think so, I won’t overthink it. But Sandra, if you’re not interested in Michael Carter, then keep your distance to avoid giving him the wrong impression."

"Got it. He invited me out to dinner, and I didn’t accept. With brother-in-law cooking delicious meals at home, why would I bother eating out?"

Emily eagerly nodded in agreement—even though her mouth was full of food, she still managed to mumble, "Exactly! Big Brother Brown’s cooking is the best!"

Seeing Emily’s enthusiasm, the group couldn’t help but burst into laughter. Emily quickly chewed and swallowed her food, then stuck out her tongue sheepishly and said, "Don’t laugh at me! I’m just a foodie!"

The group paused for a beat, then laughed so hard their stomachs ached.

"By the way, Big Brother Brown, you and Sister Gina are married now. What about Emma?" Emily suddenly blurted, causing everyone’s gaze to shift simultaneously toward John.

Emily realized she’d misspoken and hurriedly added, "I was talking nonsense! Sister Gina, don’t take it seriously. Emma... Emma is a guy!"

"Pfft..." Initially, Emily’s question had created a somewhat awkward atmosphere, but her clumsy follow-up promptly banished all tension, sending everyone into fits of laughter again.

Gina didn’t want to put John in a tough spot, so she suppressed her laughter and said, "Emma and your Big Brother Brown—I know all about it. You don’t have to cover for him."

Emily’s eyes widened in surprise and said, "Oh, you already know? Then I can breathe easy." She patted her chest dramatically, then stuck her tongue out playfully at John.

Later, as dinner wrapped up, Emily stole over to John and whispered, "Big Brother Brown, today when I went back to my old house, I ran into Emma."

John nodded, "I kept that house for her; she often goes back."

"But Emma is so wonderful. Why didn’t you marry her? Not that Sister Gina isn’t good; it’s just... isn’t this a bit unfair to Emma?"

John patted Emily’s shoulder and said, "I’ll sort things out. Emma is important to me—I’d never hurt her."

"Wait... Are you planning to make Emma your mistress?" Emily’s eyes widened, and her voice suddenly rose.

The volume of her words even reached the sitting room, but Gina and the others acted as if they hadn’t heard a thing and didn’t glance toward the kitchen.

Emily realized she’d spoken too loudly and nervously peaked toward the sitting room. Seeing no reaction from anyone, she assumed they hadn’t overheard and continued staring at John, awaiting his answer.

Feeling awkward, John explained, "Emily, I’m not playing with Emma’s feelings. I genuinely care for her. My marriage with Gina has its complexities, and managing their relationships takes time."

"Oh..." Emily, not the sharpest tool in the shed, understood only partially. "Anyway, I really like Emma and don’t want her to get hurt. If she married you, she could even help me tidy my home."

John gave Emily a look and said, "Is that all you’re interested in?"

Emily stuck out her tongue again and replied, "No, no. I just feel so relaxed around Emma. But with Sister Gina, I feel a bit pressured."

"Why feel pressured? She’s just your Big Brother Brown’s wife."

"True, true. Thinking about it like that, there’s no pressure! She might be impressive, but she’s still just your wife. Hehe, I’m heading out now."

After chatting a bit more, Lucy and Emily headed home. Emily, in particular, had to settle into her new place. However, knowing her, tidying up probably meant creating even more mess.

Now, only three people remained in the house, all seated on the couch. Gina and Sandra sat on either side of John. Sandra had opted to sit on the long sofa today and nudged John, saying, "Brother-in-law, I don’t feel comfortable lying on the Queen’s Couch to watch TV. How about giving me a massage?"

Unsure of her motives, John replied, "Your requests are becoming increasingly outrageous."

Sandra giggled mischievously, "Well, if I’m doomed either way, I might as well enjoy myself!"

Gina had already moved to the Queen’s Couch and said, "Darling, just agree to it. Otherwise, she’ll keep fussing endlessly."

John could only scoot closer to Gina as Sandra immediately flopped onto the sofa, comfortably placing both her feet on John’s lap.

Gina glared at Sandra and said, "Can you behave yourself just a little?"

"What kind of image do I need around you guys? It’s not like I’m trying to attract a suitor," Sandra replied, happily wiggling her toes, which made John nervous. If Gina found her behavior inappropriate, it wouldn’t end well for him either.

Fortunately, Gina didn’t seem to notice anything amiss and resignedly said, "Fine, fine. You’re such a handful. Who cares about your foot problem? You’re the queen here. Darling, just indulge her a bit."

John had no choice but to give Sandra a foot massage, knowing full well it was part of their little scheme to trick Gina. He could only force a laugh while acquiescing.

"Alright, you deal with Sandra. Meanwhile, I’ve got to organize everything we discussed with Mr. Smith today," Gina said.

John nodded as Gina, feeling a twinge of affection, considered giving him a kiss but decided against it due to Sandra’s presence. Instead, she lightly patted his shoulder before heading to the bedroom.

"Phew, finally!" Sandra exhaled dramatically, wiggling her toes again and winking at John.

John playfully smacked her foot lightly, making a crisp sound that startled Sandra into hastily straightening up. She glanced nervously at the bedroom, waiting to see if Gina would come back out. When she didn’t, Sandra shot John an annoyed glare and resumed her antics.

Not only was Sandra being unruly, but her mischief escalated further. Around twenty minutes later, she suddenly said loudly, "Brother-in-law, my calves feel sore too. Could you massage them for me?"

John was startled and quickly protested, "No way."

"Why not? Are you saying you can’t do it? Or is all you can do a foot massage?" Sandra’s voice was still quite loud.

"It’s not that I can’t—it’s just that sore legs only need rest. Massaging them wouldn’t help much."

John firmly declined this time. Giving Sandra foot massages daily already seemed over the line. Moving to her calves, next her thighs... John didn’t even dare contemplate where this might lead.

He knew he had to draw a boundary now to prevent the situation from spiraling further. The harm wouldn’t just affect Sandra but also Gina—and, by extension, Gina’s entire family.

Sandra pouted, then loudly called toward the bedroom, "Sis! Aren’t you going to do something about Brother-in-law? I asked him to give my legs a massage, and he refused!"

John felt his forehead darken and thought, "Sandra, could you be any less shameless?"
