Chapter 339: Chapter 343: Going Home

James Brown was standing under his apartment building at this moment, having smoked several cigarettes already. He had been standing there for quite a while, yet he just didn’t feel like going upstairs.

Firstly, he wanted to think about the incident that happened today and figure out who was targeting him; secondly, he really didn’t know how to face Gina Lopez once he went upstairs.

Just then, James’s phone rang—it was a call from Sarah Grandy. James answered it instinctively, and immediately her crying voice came from the other end. Between sobs, she said, "Uncle, come and pick me up. I want to stay at your place."

"What’s happened?" James furrowed his eyebrows.

Sarah Grandy, somewhat hoarse from shouting, cried, "They’re fighting again, non-stop, I’m going crazy."

Even as James heard the sound of Sarah’s parents arguing through the phone, his instinct was to refuse. However, as he was about to speak, he changed his mind and asked, "Would your parents agree to this?"

"I don’t care if they agree or not. If they don’t, I’d rather have the kidnappers take me away again."

James said, "Alright, I’m coming to get you now."

James hung up the phone, discarded his cigarette, and went to get his car. Soon, he was downstairs at Sarah Grandy’s home, where Sarah and her parents were standing. Surprisingly, there was a small suitcase at Sarah’s feet.

"Mr. Brown... I’m really sorry to trouble you with Sarah," Sarah’s father said, his face full of embarrassment adorned with several scratch marks—undoubtedly inflicted by Sarah’s mother.

James sighed and said, "It’s better to talk things out."

Sarah’s father looked even more embarrassed, while Sarah’s mother glanced deeply at her daughter and gave James a forced smile, saying, "From now on, we entrust Sarah to you, Mr. Brown."

James was somewhat speechless towards Sarah’s parents. They had just gotten their daughter back, and yet they were arguing incessantly. Didn’t they consider their daughter’s feelings? Although he wasn’t in a position to preach to them, he nodded, picked up Sarah’s suitcase, and placed it in the trunk.

Sarah huffed and, without even glancing at her parents, opened the car door and got in.

At that moment, Sarah’s mother leaned on the window on Sarah’s side, her eyes reddened as she said, "Sarah, make sure you listen to your Uncle John."

"Okay, okay," Sarah waved her hand impatiently, then said to James, "Uncle, let’s go."

After greeting the parents, James drove off with Sarah.

Throughout the drive, Sarah was still fuming, complaining to James about her parents arguing the moment they got home. James responded casually to Sarah, but he felt quite relieved in his heart. Now that Sarah was at his house, Gina couldn’t bring up anything about wanting children.

When they got home and James was just opening the door with his keys, Gina rushed to the entrance. Seeing James unharmed, she breathed a sigh of relief, but upon spotting Sarah behind James, her face filled with confusion.

Sarah was also surprised to see Gina, then her face quickly showed anger. She grabbed James’s arm and demanded, "Uncle, what does this mean? Why is there another woman in the house?"

Sarah had seen Emily Lopez before, but she couldn’t tell the difference between Emily and Gina Lopez, knowing that James had a close relationship with Emily. Seeing her in James’s house now, the young girl’s jealousy surged.

Gina, not normally one to argue with a child, couldn’t help feeling a bit upset by Sarah’s accusatory tone and said lightly, "I’m James’s wife; shouldn’t I be living here?"

"You’re James’s wife? Are you kidding me?" Sarah’s eyes widened.

Gina shrugged, "If you don’t believe me, ask him."

Sarah immediately grabbed James’s arm, urging, "Uncle, tell me quickly, she’s lying."

"Haha, she’s teasing you, just playing with you. You’ve had such a scare today; go wash up and then rest early." He then winked at Gina.

At this moment, Gina also recalled that this girl had been kidnapped today and didn’t understand why James brought her back here instead of to her parents’ place. However, she felt it was inappropriate to argue with a little girl at this time, so she smiled and said, "I was just kidding. I’m good friends with James, and I’m staying here for a few days."

Then Sarah proudly lifted her head and walked into the living room, saying, "Then do you know what my relationship with Uncle is?"

"What is it?" Gina looked puzzled at Sarah.

"I am Uncle’s mistress." With these words, Sarah spoke with unmistakable pride.

Gina glanced at James and then said to Sarah with a smile, "Is that so? You really are impressive."

Sarah Grandy was even more smug as she said, "Exactly, I told you, if you want to be Uncle’s woman, you have to wait in line behind Little John and Little Jack."

Gina Lopez gave James Brown a blank look and said, "I hadn’t realized, James, it’s really not easy being your woman, the queue is already so long."

James Brown coughed dryly and said, "Alright, Charlotte, go get ready for bed."

Only then did Sarah Grandy saunter into the bathroom.

"Oh really, and what about the mistress?" Gina Lopez asked with arms crossed and a unfriendly tone as she looked at James Brown.

James Brown chuckled, "She just likes messing around. After I saved her and told her to go home, it turns out her parents were still arguing. She refused to stay at home and called me to pick her up. Considering she’s in an unstable emotional state, I didn’t dare refuse and brought her back instead."

"I’m not asking you about that, I’m asking what does this mistress thing mean?" Gina Lopez stared at James Brown.

"Didn’t I say? She just likes causing trouble. She knows I have a girlfriend, so she said she wanted to be my mistress, but I did not agree. I’m not that kind of guy to take advantage of such a kid."

The two went back and forth, one questioning, the other explaining, but suddenly both fell silent. It was a strange feeling, they couldn’t quite describe it, almost like a taste of married life.

"Uncle, I’m done washing up," Sarah Grandy called out from the bathroom, breaking the awkward silence.

James immediately said, "You should go to sleep then."

Sarah Grandy shook her head and said, "Wait until I put my stuff away." She then pulled her suitcase into the bedroom.

Gina Lopez frowned, "Is she planning to stay here permanently?"

James Brown shrugged, "Looks like she doesn’t want to go home for now." Inside though, he couldn’t help feeling relieved; the longer Sarah Grandy stayed, the more he could avoid that troubling issue.

"Uncle, I can’t fit anything more in the closet," Sarah Grandy called out from the bedroom.

Gina Lopez and James Brown immediately went into the bedroom, only to see the closet doors wide open, bursting with clothes.

Originally, James Brown lived on his own, and the closet was mostly empty, but Emma Campbell would stay here occasionally, and James had bought some clothes for her. Emma did not take those clothes to school, so they all hung in the closet.

Today, Gina Lopez moved in, and she hadn’t brought much besides some underwear from the supermarket, which nearly filled up the closet. Adding Sarah Grandy’s clothes to the mix, the small closet could barely fit anything else.

Seeing the variety of women’s clothing, James Brown was overwhelmed. His home really was too small, but now with Gina Lopez as his registered wife, it seems nobody else’s clothes should hang here. However, James Brown could never let Emma Campbell take her clothes out, as Emma held a much more important place in his heart than Gina Lopez, his registered wife.

"These clothes belong to Big Sister Emma, right?" Sarah Grandy asked, tilting her head at James Brown.

James Brown nodded, "Yes."

Gina Lopez had already noticed the clothes in the closet and knew they were Emma’s. She felt uneasy, but she didn’t touch Emma’s clothes. She understood her relationship with James Brown was just a formal agreement, mainly for the sake of his mother, and it couldn’t compare to Emma’s significance.

She also knew James Brown was just trying to help her. She should be grateful to him and not interfere with his romantic relationships. However, having that marriage certificate and knowing about James Brown’s relations with other women made Gina uneasy.

James Brown managed to squeeze some space in the closet, then hung a few of Sarah Grandy’s clothes inside, placing the rest folded at the bottom, and said, "Alright, now you can go to sleep."

"Uncle, I want you to sleep with me," Sarah Grandy bit her lip, her mouth pouting, looking pitiful.

James quickly said, "That’s not possible. You can sleep with your Sister Gina."

"No, I’ll definitely be scared, and... I’m scared of beautiful women," Sarah Grandy said, looking at Gina Lopez with a hint of terror in her eyes. This wasn’t an act; the woman who had kidnapped her had left a deep impression and trauma. Seeing a beautiful woman like Gina Lopez, she instinctively felt fear.

James Brown smiled and said, "Our home is only so big, with just one bed. I can’t make her sleep on the sofa; don’t worry, Uncle will sleep on the sofa outside."

"Then... then let’s all sleep together."

Sarah Grandy’s proposal was a complete shock, leaving James Brown and Gina Lopez flabbergasted.
