The Supreme Soldier in the City -
Chapter 275 - 282: Falling into Water
Chapter 275: Chapter 282: Falling into Water
James Brown and Lucy Campbell changed their clothes and didn’t encounter Christopher Taylor when they came out. After all, Christopher Taylor was not the kind of street thug or hoodlum who would pester a beautiful woman relentlessly. Being a Deputy County Chief, he had to be somewhat mindful of his influence, especially in such a public place.
"Did that annoying guy not follow?" Lucy Campbell frowned as she looked around.
James Brown smiled and said, "What, you actually hoped that he would come?"
"Hmph, a county chief acting like a hooligan; can such a person even hold office? Hmph, I’m definitely going to speak with the city leaders about this."
James Brown laughed heartily and said, "It looks like this guy’s days as a county chief are numbered."
Lucy Campbell turned to James Brown with a smile and said, "I’m doing this for you, you know."
James Brown immediately responded with a bow of his hands and said, "Thank you, thank you."
As the two chatted and laughed, characters like Christopher Taylor didn’t matter at all in Lucy Campbell’s eyes. Handling Christopher Taylor was, at most, because he had the audacity to disturb her alone time with James Brown, and because he was an enemy of James Brown. If she didn’t take care of him, he would trouble James Brown again when she wasn’t around, which was something Lucy Campbell couldn’t tolerate.
"I was thinking about swimming a bit more, but that guy ruined the mood. So annoying." As they walked towards the dock, Lucy Campbell couldn’t help but grumble her dissatisfaction.
"Heh, if you’re willing, we can come back again in a few days; it’s not a big deal."
Lucy Campbell immediately said with a smile, "You said it yourself, when I want to come next time, you have to accompany me, or else it’s no good."
"How could I not want to? When you, the big chairwoman, give the order, I can join you for fun without working and Mr. Lopez won’t even criticize me. It’s great."
Lucy Campbell laughed softly and said, "You lazybones, why do you dislike work so much?"
"Life is such; pursuing too much is tiring. Having no desires makes one tough. I feel very relaxed with my current lifestyle, and I quite like it."
Lucy Campbell sighed silently in her heart, thinking that getting James Brown to walk the same path as her would not be an easy task.
The speedboat they had hired on their way here had already left, but there were many other speedboats available for hire. As James Brown and Lucy Campbell approached, a young man in his twenties came up to them with a beaming smile and said, "The two of you want to hire a speedboat?"
James Brown nodded and said, "Take us back to YODC City."
"No problem."
After agreeing on a price, James Brown and Lucy Campbell got on the speedboat, which quickly started up and sped into the sea.
Although Lucy Campbell still felt a bit seasick, it wasn’t as bad as on the way there, but she still let James Brown pinch the web of her hand. Even though it hurt, she liked the feeling of James Brown holding her hand.
After about twenty minutes on the speedboat, James Brown suddenly sighed. Lucy Campbell looked at him puzzledly and asked, "What’s wrong?"
"Our trouble has arrived."
"Trouble?" Lucy Campbell looked at James Brown with even more confusion.
James Brown nodded, patted the young man driving the speedboat in front of them, and said, "Stop."
The young man jolted, turned his head and looked at James Brown nervously, "Why?"
James Brown gave a faint smile and said, "Hasn’t someone bribed you to deal with us?"
"No... nothing like that," the young man stammered.
James Brown grabbed the young man’s wrist and calmly said, "Are you going to talk or not?"
The young man let out a pig-like scream, feeling as if his wrist was being clamped by a vise, as if his bones might break.
"I’ll talk, I’ll talk."
James Brown didn’t speak, but he slightly loosened his grip.
The young man took a slight breath of relief and hurriedly said, "Someone approached me earlier, asking me to take you away and then drain most of the oil from my fuel tank, so this speedboat can only go twenty nautical miles. After that, they would come to pick us up."
"Is that so simple?" James Brown met the young man’s gaze.
"Yes, yes, that’s really all he said. He said they wanted to stage a heroic rescue, and when our speedboat ran out of fuel, they would come to save us. Apparently, the... the lady here would feel grateful."
James Brown could tell from the young man’s eyes that he was telling the truth, but he knew that this kid had also been deceived. Christopher Taylor was not someone kind-hearted; he would not let off James Brown so easily.
"How much fuel do we still have now, and how far is it to their designated location?"
The young man hurriedly said, "We can only go for about three nautical miles, and we’re already really close to that place, just about one nautical mile away."
James Brown squinted his eyes and said, "Then just do what they told you, but you don’t have to circle around until you run out of fuel before getting there. Just go straight there."
"What?" The young man was dumbfounded, looking at James Brown with confusion.
James Brown patted his shoulder and said, "Just relax, do as I tell you."
This time the young man finally heard it clearly, and could only obediently agree, but his heart was filled with doubts, wondering if James Brown had taken the wrong medication. It was obviously a trap set by the other party, and now he was about to walk right into it.
Lucy Campbell watched James Brown with a smile. With James Brown around, she didn’t take such danger to heart at all. In fact, she was even more eager to see how James Brown would handle the situation.
The speedboat moved forward another nautical mile and then stopped. The dinghy only had a rope and no anchor, so when it stopped, it just drifted. If they had two fishing rods to fish here, it would be quite leisurely and enjoyable. Unfortunately, there were no fishing rods on the speedboat, so James Brown and Lucy Campbell could only admire the beauty of the blue sky and clear sea. Lucy Campbell was leisurely playing with the refreshing seawater with her right hand in the water.
From beginning to end, Lucy Campbell never asked James Brown what to do, and James Brown didn’t say anything. Lucy Campbell had complete trust in him, and James Brown thought these trivial matters were not worth bothering her.
Seeing how James Brown and Lucy Campbell were at ease on the boat as if they were on vacation, the young man piloting the speedboat couldn’t help but worry and said, "Those people look pretty tough, how come you aren’t thinking of a way out?"
Suddenlly, James Brown grabbed a shiny silver fish with his left hand, which made Lucy Campbell shout in surprise. She carefully took over the small silver fish from James Brown’s hand, her face beaming with a radiant smile.
The young man was speechless at the sight, these two really had a big heart, even in such a situation, they were still in the mood to play with fish.
"Ah!" Lucy Campbell suddenly let out an exclamation, then quickly stood up, frantically clawing at her clothes.
The speedboat wasn’t large, and Lucy Campbell’s panic caused the speedboat to rock and sway. She tilted her body and was about to fall into the sea.
James Brown also hadn’t expected such an accident to happen and swiftly reached out to grasp Lucy Campbell’s hand, trying to pull her back. But just as a wave hit them, it made him unsteady as well, and both he and Lucy Campbell tumbled into the sea.
If on land, James Brown was absolutely composed. However, on a boat, out at sea, James Brown was also short of strength. Moreover, it was all too surprising. Who would have thought that just playing with a little fish could lead to such an incident?
Lucy Campbell suddenly fell into the sea and panicked, her instincts made her hug James Brown tightly. James Brown quickly kicked with his legs to propel them, and soon they surfaced.
Lucy Campbell’s head poked out of the water and relaxed a bit, though she didn’t cling to James Brown any longer, she didn’t let go either, and said indignantly, "You almost made me choke on water."
James Brown chuckled and asked, "Did the fish get away?"
Lucy Campbell’s face turned red and she said, "It probably escaped, I can’t feel it anymore." Just now, she was playing with the little fish, when suddenly, it squirmed powerfully. Lucy Campbell wasn’t prepared and let the fish slip from her hands. Coincidentally, it didn’t fall out of the boat but into the neckline of her shirt. Even knowing it was just a small fish, the cold, ticklish sensation had scared Lucy Campbell badly, resulting in this whole fiasco.
"Let’s get back on the boat," suggested James Brown, swimming towards the speedboat with Lucy Campbell.
However, Lucy Campbell stopped him, saying, "How can I get onto the speedboat looking like this?"
James Brown turned to look at her, then quickly averted his gaze. Lucy Campbell’s clothes were not revealing, and she was wearing a professional suit, but the material was very thin. Soaked in water, it had nearly become transparent. The clear seawater made it so that he could see everything inside Lucy Campbell’s clothes.
"What should we do now?"
"How would I know? You think of something."
James Brown said with a wry smile, "Okay, I’ll think of something, but it seems we can only swim back."
"That’s a good idea," Lucy Campbell’s eyes narrowed slightly, she was actually quite tempted.
James Brown was left speechless and said, "Sis, we’re probably more than ten nautical miles away from land. Isn’t it dangerous to swim such a distance?"
"With you here, I’m not afraid at all. It’s not like I can get on a speedboat and let others see me."
James Brown was at his wits’ end but telling the truth, seeing Lucy Campbell in wet clothes getting on the speedboat made him uncomfortable too. After thinking for a moment, he said, "How about we hijack a speedboat later, and just the two of us can leave."
"So you mean it’s okay if only you can see?" Lucy Campbell smiled teasingly at James Brown.
James Brown’s face went red, and he replied with an embarrassed laugh, "That’s not what I meant, but for us to swim back alone is honestly not very safe. If we encounter sharks or something, it would be disastrous."
"You don’t need to scare me, sharks rarely attack people. Besides, there aren’t many sharks left in our country’s waters, they’ve all been caught by fishermen for their fins. There’s no need to mention great white sharks."
James Brown’s initial plan was to seize a speedboat, sort out Christopher Taylor, and then speed off with Lucy Campbell. But now, that idea had to be abandoned. Shaking his head, he said, "Fine then, let’s swim back. But we should ask for a lifebuoy, just in case you can’t keep swimming later."
