The Supreme Soldier in the City
Chapter 247 - 250: Maintenance

Chapter 247: Chapter 250: Maintenance

Several people were talking when the door was suddenly knocked. James Brown shouted to come in, and the door opened. Charlotte Davis, the manager of L Hotel, came in with some police officers, accompanied by Christopher Taylor and those two men.

Seeing the police enter, Gina Lopez, Melody Yoody, and Sunny Nguyen all frowned slightly, and they were also somewhat confused, while Alice Brown seemed a bit panicked at this moment. Clearly, Christopher Taylor bringing the police was directly targeting James Brown and her.

"That’s the guy, take him away for me!" Christopher Taylor, upon seeing James Brown, immediately barked angrily.

The police officers immediately rushed towards James Brown, but Charlotte Davis, the manager, quickly stretched out her arms to stop the police, wearing a professional smile, said, "Mayor Johnson, is there some kind of misunderstanding here?"

Christopher Taylor snorted, "This guy hit me, what misunderstanding could there be? Better step aside, or I’ll arrest you too."

Charlotte Davis then said firmly but respectfully: "Mayor Johnson, I’m a nobody, whether you arrest me or not is just a matter of words for you. However, since our hotel opened, nothing like this has ever occurred. Now you want to make an arrest inside our hotel, doesn’t seem quite appropriate, does it?"

Christopher Taylor furrowed his brows. He had been too impulsive just now, and suddenly realized that L Hotel is no ordinary establishment. It’s backed by a deputy mayor of the city. A deputy mayor alone would be nothing, but what’s most crucial is that the hotel is also owned by a family, a family that is not inferior to the Brownie Family, possibly even more influential. He couldn’t afford to disregard that.

Glancing at Charlotte Davis, Christopher Taylor said gravely, "This matter doesn’t concern your establishment; it’s only about this guy."

Charlotte Davis smiled faintly, "Mayor Johnson, regarding your personal grievances, I have no right to intervene. But whoever comes to my hotel to dine, they are my guests, and I must be responsible for my guests. I cannot let my guest be taken away by police, unless he is indeed some sort of fugitive."

Christopher Taylor’s face darkened, "So he gets to hit me for free?"

With a light laugh, Charlotte Davis said, "We’re all just having a little fun here, why take it so seriously, Mayor Johnson? How about this – we’ll take care of your outfit, and also, your bill today will be on the house. How does that sound?"

Christopher Taylor stared at Charlotte Davis, suppressing the anger in his heart, "Are you openly siding with him?"

Charlotte Davis internally despised Christopher Taylor very much. Her attitude was also a covert message to him that James Brown wasn’t someone to be trifled with, certainly more influential than Christopher Taylor, but this fool couldn’t perceive it at all. Smiling, she said, "Mayor Johnson, this isn’t about taking sides, I’m just following the rules of our hotel."

Christopher Taylor angrily retorted, "I don’t care about your hotel’s rules, today I’m taking this guy away, I’d like to see who dares to stop me!"

Seeing Christopher Taylor’s strong stance, the police officers immediately pushed Charlotte Davis aside and once more tried to apprehend James Brown.

Gina Lopez was completely confused and didn’t know what crime James Brown had committed, but from what Charlotte Davis had mentioned, it seemed James had some conflict with Mayor Johnson. Regardless, she couldn’t let the police take James Brown away.

Melody Yoody shared the same thought as Gina Lopez. She stood up first and said to Christopher Taylor, "Mayor Johnson, why all the anger? James Brown is my classmate—let’s discuss things calmly. If it’s really James’s fault, I’ll have him apologize to you."

Christopher Taylor only then noticed Melody Yoody. L-Region belonged to Q County, so as Deputy County Chief, he naturally knew Township Chief Johnson. He had always harbored certain desires towards Melody Yoody, but he was also aware that her family background wasn’t weak. If relying on her family, Melody Yoody was certainly incomparable, but here, he was not in his turf, hence he couldn’t act rashly.

Not daring to act rashly didn’t mean he would offer his respect to Melody Yoody. Knowing James Brown and Melody Yoody were classmates made him feel more assured. His face darkened, "Chief Johnson, do you know your classmate just hit me?"

Melody Yoody frowned slightly, and sneakingly kicked James Brown. This rascal, just like when he was young causing troubles, it had always been her cleaning up his messes, and now he’s grown up, still behaving similarly, causing even bigger troubles, giving her quite a headache.

With a stern face, Melody Yoody scolded James Brown, "James Brown, how can you be so reckless? Don’t you know this is Mayor Johnson? Apologize to him right away."

Her tone and expression were just like those times when a seventeen or eighteen-year-old James Brown would cause trouble, always sternly reprimanding him, yet deep down, she was still defending James Brown.

However, today’s James Brown was not the James Brown of the past. He sat boldly, lighting a cigarette, and said indifferently, "A person like him doesn’t deserve my apology. Better not to interfere, let him fuss as he wants."

Melody Yoody quickly tugged at James Brown and gave him a look, but seeing that James Brown was utterly indifferent, she knew she couldn’t persuade him at this point. She understood James Brown too well; if he had caused trouble frivolously, he would apologize immediately upon a word from her. However, if he believed he was justified, no matter how angry she became, he definitely wouldn’t apologize. It seemed that Christopher Taylor must have done something that really angered James Brown.

At this moment, Gina Lopez sternly said to Christopher Taylor, "Mayor Johnson, James Brown is our employee, and I am the CEO. If James hit you, there must be a reason for the conflict, right? I don’t believe he would hit you without any reason."

Now, Gina Lopez spoke with strong confidence, unlike when she was with the small company. Now, being with a large corporation backed by Lucy Campbell, Gina could even connect with top city officials effortlessly, let alone be intimidated by a Deputy County Chief.

Christopher Taylor’s face immediately turned uncomfortable. How could he openly speak about the cause of the issue, especially thinking that James Brown had already revealed what happened? This made Gina’s remark even more embarrassing for him. He snorted coldly, "I don’t care which company you represent, you can’t handle this matter. Take him into custody."

Both Gina Lopez and Melody Yoody looked upset. Gina was the first to hum, "Township Chief Johnson, it seems I need to reconsider my decision. With such a mayor, I fear the cooperation in your township won’t be pleasant."

Melody Yoody didn’t disagree with Gina’s words. If she were in Gina’s position, she would reconsider as well. She said to Christopher Taylor sternly, "Deputy County Chief Smith, this is Gina Lopez from J Corporation. They are planning to invest in building a factory in our L-region. This is significant for both our township and county. If Mayor Johnson destroys this opportunity, I’m afraid..."

Christopher Taylor frowned. As the Deputy County Chief, he was well aware of the importance of J Corporation’s investment in L-region. The entire county administration valued this project and instructed everyone to cooperate with Melody Yoody’s efforts to secure the investment, which would be a great achievement. If he messed this up, it could lead to displeasure from all county leaders. Even if he didn’t regard those mayors and secretaries highly, any negligence here could add substantial difficulties for him.

Charlotte Davis whispered to Christopher Taylor, "Mayor Johnson, the people from J Corporation are from the capital city of SSUP; they are very influential."

Christopher Taylor’s expression changed again. The big shots from the capital city were likely more powerful than his own family. Now he understood why Charlotte Davis had been siding with James Brown. It seemed he truly had to swallow this loss today.

After grinding his teeth, Christopher Taylor finally swallowed his pride and said, "Then I’ll give you face. Township Chief Johnson, Mr. Lopez, I won’t pursue the matter further."

Gina Lopez and Melody Yoody’s expressions relaxed, and Gina, who was only trying to scare Christopher Taylor, nodded and said, "Since Mayor Johnson is so magnanimous, it seems we can still invest here."

Christopher Taylor had to feign generosity, "Personal issues and official matters, I can distinguish between the two. Officially, I won’t hold a grudge now. Since that’s settled, could you now hand over that video to me?"

"Video?" Gina Lopez and Melody Yoody looked puzzled at James Brown.

James Brown shrugged, "I can’t give it to him."

Christopher Taylor’s face darkened ominously, having made such a concession, yet James Brown was still so recalcitrant. If it weren’t for the fact that he couldn’t defeat James Brown physically, he would have wanted to slaughter him at that moment.

Gina Lopez, thinking James Brown might have captured some inappropriate photos of Christopher Taylor, glared at James, saying, "Why keep those things? Hurry and give them to Mayor Johnson."

Melody also said, "Yes, stop causing trouble."

James Brown fiddled with his phone in his palm and shook his head, "He’s a high-ranking county chief, and I’m just a minor employee. If I don’t have something in my hand and he comes after me again, wouldn’t I be done for?"

Christopher Taylor took a deep breath, "Fine, I promise, if you give me the video, I’ll never bother you again."

"Really?" James Brown looked at Christopher Taylor with a smile.

Christopher Taylor nodded vigorously, clenching his back teeth, "The words of Christopher Taylor stand; there are so many witnesses here."

Only then did James Brown nod contentedly and said something with a grin that nearly made Christopher Taylor spit out a mouthful of blood.
