Chapter 245: Chapter 248 Conditions

James Brown said with a shocked face, "Turns out you can’t even produce 500 million either. Then what the hell are you pretending for here?"

Christopher Taylor was already extremely angry, but seeing James Brown’s expression, he couldn’t help but laugh out of sheer rage, feeling that the lad in front of him was too good at putting on an act. He sneered and said, "Then can you produce 500 million?"

James Brown replied very frankly, "Of course I can’t, I’m not a tall, rich, and handsome guy like you."

"Fuck, you can’t produce it and you still want me to do it?" Christopher Taylor really felt that the kid in front of him was just too stupid. He had thought this was someone wealthy like himself, but it turned out to be just a dumb kid.

"Why should I be the same as you?"

"Nonsense, then I can also say the same, you give 500 million, and you can take Alice Brown away."

"Is that your logic?" James Brown asked with squinted eyes.

"Exactly, this is something anyone could understand, you’re here just blowing hot air, pretending for what?"

James Brown let out a sinister smile, suddenly took a quick stride towards Christopher Taylor, grabbed his wrist, and swiftly removed his Rolex watch made of pure gold, worth over 700,000, saying, "Nice watch you have here, must be pretty valuable, huh?"

Christopher Taylor hurriedly reached out to grab it back, yelling, "Give it back, this damn thing is worth over 700,000. Can you afford to compensate if you damage it?"

"Oh, more than 700,000 huh? Then you pay more than 700,000, and I’ll give it to you," James Brown said with a beaming smile, looking at Christopher Taylor.

"Fuck, it’s my watch, why should I pay you money?"

James Brown suddenly glared, bellowed, "You idiot, Alice Brown is my girlfriend, why should I pay 500 million for her?"

Christopher Taylor was dumbfounded and dizzied by James Brown’s shouting, but he also felt that he really made a fool of himself just now. More importantly, James Brown was making him lose face. In YODC City, when had he ever lost so much face before? In a fit of anger, he raised his hand to slap James Brown across the face.

James Brown quickly caught Christopher Taylor’s wrist, glared with a fierce look, and shouted, "What, looking for a fight? You dare to harass my girlfriend, I haven’t hit you yet, and you dare to raise a hand against me?"

"I’m gonna fucking kill you, and you won’t even know how you died!" Christopher Taylor yanked his arm vigorously, kicking towards James Brown’s groin.

James Brown pushed, and Christopher Taylor immediately lost his balance. Falling backwards onto the dining table, dishes and plates on the table were knocked over, and he instinctively continued to struggle, knocking down nearby wine bottles and glasses, causing everyone around the table to be splashed with mess, and Christopher Taylor was in an even worse state. When he got up, his face and clothes were all covered with greasy, sticky food and soup; it was unspeakably uncomfortable for him.

"Mayor Johnson, are you alright?"

"Master Johnson, how are you?"

The other few people hurriedly helped Christopher Taylor up. Originally, they had not intervened, with Christopher Taylor speaking, they felt it was inappropriate to say more as that would put Christopher Taylor in an awkward position. Even when James Brown arrived, they didn’t think anyone would dare to make a move against Christopher Taylor. Not to mention Christopher Taylor’s family background, just being a Deputy County Chief in YODC City was not someone just anyone could afford to provoke.

But now, seeing Christopher Taylor being put in such an embarrassing situation by James Brown, if they didn’t step in, they would offend him afterward, and this was the moment for them to better show their loyalty.

Two men rolled up their sleeves, glaring angrily at James Brown, and shouted, "Kid, do you know who this is? This is our Q County’s Deputy County Chief Christopher Taylor, you dare to hit Mayor Johnson?"

They were in their forties, with official positions in the county, accustomed to prestige and luxury, definitely not the kind to engage in physical scuffles. Rolling up their sleeves now was just a posturing; seeing James Brown’s tall and strong build, they didn’t want to fight him. So, they tried to use their positions to intimidate James Brown.

This was their usual tactic, as long as they didn’t encounter anyone with a higher official rank, there wouldn’t be a problem, and they never considered that James Brown could be from a government department – after becoming an official, who still gets into fights?

Moreover, being high and mighty, average people wouldn’t dare show off in front of them, if it hadn’t been for Christopher Taylor present, they would have glared and scolded James Brown out of there much earlier.

Today, they thought that just by mentioning their positions, a young person like James Brown would surely change his face and leave hastily after apologizing.

"He’s actually a Deputy County Chief? Who are you trying to fool?" James Brown sneered dismissively.

One of the Centaurs replied with disdain, "Fool you? Are you blind? I’m telling you, right now he is our Deputy County Chief in Q County, and it won’t be long before he becomes the County Chief, the County Party Secretary, and then the Mayor." This guy got more excited as he spoke, as if Christopher Taylor’s life path was unfolding right before his eyes, his flattery couldn’t be more obvious.

At that moment, Alice Brown felt alarmed beyond her excitement; it seemed that stirring up trouble this big might not be good. After all, it looked like Christopher Taylor had quite the powerful background. If because of her, James Brown got into a conflict with someone like that, or it caused any more trouble for James, then her guilt would be even greater. She quickly tugged on James Brown’s arm and whispered, "Let’s just go."

Although Alice Brown’s voice was low, Christopher Taylor heard everything loud and clear. By this time, he had already lost his sense of reason and slammed his hand down on the table, barked, "None of you are leaving today."

James Brown tossed his cigarette butt away and said with a seemingly guilty conscience, "So it’s County Chief Smith, huh? My sincerest apologies. I didn’t realize you were the parental official of Q County."

Seeing James Brown’s softening demeanor, Christopher Taylor lost his temper even more and snorted, "It’s useless for you to say any of this now. If you don’t give me a satisfactory explanation today—if you don’t make me happy—after you hit me, at the very least, I’ll make sure you’re locked up for three to five years."

James Brown’s eyes widened, and he asked, "Then what would satisfy you?"

Christopher Taylor glanced at Alice Brown, sneered, and said, "Simple. You kneel, kowtow, and admit your mistake, and then let Alice Brown keep me company for a week, and we’ll call it even."

James Brown immediately replied, "Oh, County Chief Smith is really something. Why do I get the feeling that you are forcing yourself on a young woman?"

Christopher Taylor glared, completely indifferent, "I am forcing myself, and what can you do about it? Just one word from me and your life is ruined. Hmph, in my eyes, you’re less than ants; I can crush you whenever I want, and even if I kill you, you’ve got nowhere to seek justice."

James Brown gave Christopher Taylor a thumbs-up and said, "Impressive, Mayor Johnson, you’ve really shown me what a parental official is, what a true leader is."

Christopher Taylor’s face darkened as he said, "I’ll give you two minutes to think it over. If you don’t agree after two minutes... Hmph, you know the consequences." Then he took his handkerchief and wiped the grease off his body, which made him even angrier. He had never suffered such a big loss before, and had it not been for his status, he would have killed James Brown to ease his anger.

At this moment, Alice Brown tugged at James Brown and whispered in a lowered voice, "What do we do now?"

James turned to face Alice, with his back toward Christopher Taylor and his group, and winked at Alice, saying, "Don’t worry."

Alice Brown saw James’s expression and felt relieved but still whispered with some worry, "But he seems to have a big background. Won’t this conflict with him bring you trouble?"

"Not at all, I wouldn’t use my background to oppress others. That’s what people without real ability do. Plus, I don’t want him to know my identity."

"What are we going to do then?" Alice Brown was startled. James Brown was thinking of not using his status to apply pressure. Could he really handle someone like Christopher Taylor? That seemed unlikely.

James Brown patted Alice Brown’s shoulder and said confidently, "Don’t worry, if I can’t handle such a petty person, that would be too embarrassing."

Alice Brown nodded vigorously, now filled with anticipation, wanting to see how James would resolve the situation. Her regard for him soared. She had seen many spoiled young masters from wealthy and powerful families who boasted and strutted around; but at the first sign of trouble, they would flaunt their family’s status. Only someone like James Brown could handle things without relying on his family’s influence—that was a truly capable individual, a true person of noble birth.

Looking at James Brown, Alice Brown’s gaze became even more fervent. If she could be with someone like James, even without an official status, she was more than willing.

Christopher Taylor hadn’t heard what James and Alice were saying, but seeing them speaking affectionately to each other, he became even more irritated and impatiently interrupted, "Have you made up your minds? My patience is limited."

James Brown turned around, smiling at Christopher Taylor, and said, "Sorry, I can’t agree to your terms."

Christopher Taylor had not expected such a response from James Brown and burst out angrily, "It seems you won’t cry until you see the coffin. Mr. Wilson, call Chief W at the sub-bureau. Someone attacked me here; I want him arrested."

One of the men agreed and picked up the phone, but he didn’t dial immediately. Instead, he said to James Brown, "Kid, I suggest you better come to your senses now, or you’ll ruin your whole life."

James Brown responded with a faint smile, "Sure, go ahead and call."

Christopher Taylor, upon seeing James still fearless at this moment, couldn’t hold back any longer and shouted, "Call now, have him arrested for me! If I don’t lock him up for a few years, I’ll change my last name!"
