Chapter 244: Chapter 247: 500 Million

Others may not understand, but Jessica Johnson was very clear; L Hotel was a place where ordinary folks had no standing. Those who visited were either wealthy or eminent. Who in YODC City wouldn’t know Christopher Taylor’s identity? Even if the Mayor himself were here, he might have to turn a blind eye because Christopher’s background was truly formidable; there were few in YODC City who dared to cross him.

So crying for help was futile; ultimately, it would only serve to publicize her humiliation. Yet Jessica Johnson couldn’t resign herself to such treatment. Clenching her teeth, she said, "Master Johnson, could you please be gentler? It hurts a lot."

Seeing Jessica Johnson’s tearful and vulnerable expression, Christopher Taylor laughed heartily and said, "As long as you behave, why would I need to be rough with you?"

Christopher Taylor had underestimated Jessica Johnson. She displayed such an expression only to let him let his guard down, and the moment he did, she stepped fiercely on the instep of his foot. Her sharp high heel was like a dagger, almost piercing through Christopher’s shoe.

"Aah!" Christopher Taylor cried out in agony, unintentionally releasing Jessica Johnson, who seized the chance to dash towards the door. She tried to pull it open, but it was locked—who knows by whom. By the time she unlocked it, Christopher had already charged over; it was too late for her to escape.

At that moment, Jessica Johnson’s heart was filled with indescribable sadness. She no longer wanted to be toyed with by these rich people, yet she was unable to avoid her fate. Was being a decent girl really that difficult?

She was so close to escaping, but fate seemed unwilling to grant her that chance. In that instant, Jessica Johnson felt a surge of suicidal desperation and a readiness to fight Christopher to the death. But then she thought of her family—if she died, they would be devastated.

If only James Brown could be here. His background was certainly no less formidable than Christopher Taylor’s, and he would definitely help her. But at this moment, there was no time to call James for help.

Feeling Christopher’s hand reaching for her hair, Jessica Johnson became numb. Heartbroken, she felt her spirit die.

"Who are you?" Christopher Taylor’s furious voice suddenly came from behind.

Startled, Jessica turned around abruptly and saw a figure she had longed for in her dreams, standing right before her. Although she had met James Brown only a few times, she recognized his silhouette so clearly. Seeing him now, she knew it was James.

But she couldn’t believe James Brown would appear before her at this moment. It surely was a dream. She rubbed her eyes vigorously but hesitated to open them again, fearing it wasn’t real but a hallucination.

"I’m just a nobody," the man in front of her suddenly spoke.

"Mr. Smith... James!" Upon hearing the voice, Jessica immediately opened her eyes. In her urgency, she didn’t know what to call James. She extended both arms and hugged him tightly from behind, as if trying to embed herself into his body.

It was indeed James Brown who had come in. He had been watching from outside, and his opinion of Jessica had greatly improved as the situation unfolded. He hadn’t expected her to resist to such lengths. When Jessica was pushed to the brink, he had no choice but to intervene.

It wasn’t a matter of James trying to be a hero, waiting for the situation to become dire; he simply hadn’t known Jessica well enough to discern whether she was playing some game with Christopher Taylor. He had finally confirmed that Jessica was truly rejecting Christopher, not employing any tactics.

James Brown gently patted Jessica’s hands and smiled, "It’s okay, don’t worry, I’m here."

Jessica’s face gently brushed against the back of James Brown’s jacket as she softly said, "I know, I know. With you here, I’m not afraid of anything."

Seeing Jessica Johnson cling to the man who had suddenly appeared without letting go, while she harshly rejected himself, Christopher Taylor became even more infuriated. His voice thundered with a menacing tone, "Do you even know where you are? Who you are talking to?"

James Brown met Christopher Taylor’s gaze, smiled faintly, and said, "Of course I know."

"Good, you know who I am, and you dare to meddle in my business. Do you have a death wish?" Normally, Christopher Taylor would put on airs as the Deputy County Chief in public, paying some attention to his image, but here, he didn’t care at all, making no effort to hide his reputation as a spoilt rich kid.

"Looking at you, I can tell you’re a beast, a piece of trash. What’s there to fear from a beast or trash?" James Brown’s tone was calm, but his words were incredibly sharp.

Christopher Taylor’s face turned ashen with rage and he shouted, "Alright, kid, you’ve got guts. So, you’re Alice Brown’s boyfriend, huh?"

"That’s right, you guessed it," James responded with a smile.

Alice Brown’s body stiffened. The boyfriend she had mentioned was entirely fabricated, and most importantly, she had not expected James Brown to actually admit it. This made her feel indescribably sweet; even if she were to really be James Brown’s girlfriend, she would be satisfied.

However, she quickly thought of another problem, which made her very nervous. If James considered himself her boyfriend, he would probably treat her even less favorably, and having a boyfriend yet still having tried to seduce James Brown last time, she feared that James would look down on her even more.

For a moment, Alice Brown felt torn, and she didn’t hear a single word of the conversation between James Brown and Christopher Taylor.

"Look at you, all dressed up like some decent guy, you must be some white-collar worker. Let me tell you, I’ve taken a fancy to her. I’ll give you seventy thousand dollars to leave Alice Brown," Christopher Taylor said as he sat down, lit a cigarette, and adopted a totally in-control demeanor. He wanted to humiliate this woman in front of her boyfriend by getting rid of him.

"Alice is worth only seventy thousand dollars to you? You’re really underestimating her," James said, lighting a cigarette and taking his time smoking it.

Hearing James’s response, Christopher Taylor felt even happier. He crossed his legs and said, "Kid, you’re really keen to make a quick buck, aren’t you? So, how much do you think she’s worth?"

James thought for a moment and said, "So, you want me to name a price?"

"That’s right. As long as you can name it, I can satisfy you," Christopher Taylor said, swaying slightly, looking even more smug.

"Alright!" James nodded, extended his right hand, and spread his fingers.

Christopher Taylor frowned and said, "You’ve really got the nerve to ask for a price, huh? Five million, fine, I’ll give it to you."

But James shook his head and waved his hand.

Christopher Taylor’s eyes bulged, and he roared, "Don’t tell me you’re asking for fifty million?"

"Wrong!" James smiled faintly and said, "It’s not fifty million, but five hundred million. If you give me that, I’ll let you take Alice away immediately."

"You’ve lost your mind wanting that kind of money!" Christopher Taylor roared in anger.
