Chapter 155: Chapter 155: The Unreasonable Sarah Grandy

"Uncle!" Charlotte stood at the door, pouting, her eyes red, looking utterly pitiable, and holding a small suitcase in her hand.

"What are you doing?" James did not let Charlotte in but looked at her, puzzled.

Charlotte’s eyes grew even redder, tears quickly gathering before flowing down her cheeks as she choked, "I have nowhere to go."

James sighed and said, "Come in."

Charlotte followed James into the living room. James handed her a tissue and said, "Wipe your tears."

Charlotte took the tissue, wiped her eyes, and hung her head low, not as flamboyant as usual.

"What exactly happened?" James sat next to Charlotte but maintained a bit of distance between them.

"Uncle!" Charlotte looked up at James and said, "My parents yelled at me, disowned me, so I ran away from home. Uncle, you have to take me in."

"Running away from home just because of a fight with your parents?" James frowned.

In high school, James, too, disliked studying, frequently faced scolding and beatings from his parents, which only intensified after the incident with Melody Yoody. He harbored intense resentment toward his parents then, but when they died in a car accident shortly afterward, he experienced the deep pain of losing them.

Filial piety is most deeply felt when parents are gone. After his parents died, James regretted not making their lives easier, not cherishing them while he had the chance.

James, understanding Charlotte’s decision to run away, knew teenage years can be extremely rebellious, resistant to parental control. Thus, he didn’t see her as a bad child but softly said, "Your parents scold you because they care about you. Don’t be sad."

"What do you mean, they care? I just like using the computer, but they completely forbid it. I tried to reason with them, but they just impose their authority over me. Is college the only path to success in this world?" Charlotte said vehemently.

James wiped his brow and said, "Though it’s not only through college that one becomes successful, playing on the computer certainly affects your studies."

"I’m not like others just playing games; I seriously study computer software. Let me tell you, I’m actually a great hacker now, and I want to pursue this field, but in their eyes, I’m just playing all the time, utterly clueless. It’s infuriating."

James looked at Charlotte, surprised, and asked, "You’re a hacker?"

"Of course!" Seeing James’s astonished expression, Charlotte’s aggrieved look turned into pride, her chin tilting up like a proud little hen.

"Hehe, I really couldn’t tell." James chuckled, the surprise fading away. Who Charlotte was didn’t matter to him; he had already decided not to let her stay.

Seeing James’s expression turn indifferent, Charlotte urgently said, "I really am a hacker. I can even hack into corporate computer systems now, and I’m getting better all the time. One of my senior hackers told me that I’m a genius in this field. With more effort, my future achievements could rank me among the top ten hackers nationwide."

James smiled faintly and said, "Then congratulations."

"Uncle, what kind of attitude is that? I’m a hacker, and you’re also a master hidden in the city. We’re both alike, we match so well."

James knew this girl would steer the conversation this way. His expression stern, he said, "Sorry, I’m no master, just an ordinary person."

"Yes, yes, we’re just ordinary people. In front of others, I’m also just an ordinary person. Although I’m a hacker, even my best friends in class don’t know. Only you know I’m a hacking expert."

James gave Charlotte a look and said, "Okay, expert, you can go home now."

Charlotte immediately widened her eyes, angrily saying, "Uncle, you can’t be so cruel! I just ran away from home and you’re already sending me back?"

"Yes, I have to send you away. Your parents must be very worried, so you need to go home."

"I don’t care if they’re worried. They shouldn’t have yelled at me."

James furrowed his brow and said, "Yelling is the least of it. If I were your parents, I’d spank you relentlessly this time to prevent another runaway."

"Hehe, then when I come back, I’ll have a baby for you, and you can go back to your workout."

James Brown suddenly had a dark expression. Was Charlotte really 18? She was too wicked—able to say such things—James Brown couldn’t understand the world of high school students anymore.

"Is it okay? Uncle, just let me stay here. I’m not saying I’ll be your wife; I’ll just be your mistress, okay?" Charlotte grabbed James Brown’s arm and began shaking it vigorously.

"No!" James Brown promptly shook off Charlotte’s hand and said, "Get going, otherwise I’ll throw you out too."

"I’m not leaving; I’m sticking with you anyway." Charlotte puffed up, glaring at James Brown with her fists clenched, showing her determination.

James shook his head, sensing that Charlotte was a very stubborn girl. If he really pushed her, he wouldn’t be able to get rid of her. He changed tactics and put on a smile, saying, "Look, Charlotte, think about it. Uncle here has no money, no status, this is the whole house. If you’re my mistress, I won’t even have the money to support you in the future."

"I’m not afraid. Whatever you eat, I’ll eat. As long as I’m not starving, that’s fine."

James Brown rubbed his nose and said, "Then, I don’t even have a computer. Staying here, you won’t be able to become a hacker either."

Charlotte blinked and said, "That’s easy. Tomorrow my parents will be at work, and I’ll sneak home and steal the laptop."

"I’m really twisted, especially when it comes to women. I’m not normal. I like playing all sorts of exciting games, like whipping people or dripping wax on them. Can you really handle that?"

Charlotte’s eyes widened as she stared blankly at James Brown.

James was secretly pleased inside, finally finding a way to scare this little brat. Just as he was about to make it sound even scarier, Charlotte shouted, "Uncle, you’re really tough, having all these fetishes. I’ve seen a lot about them on the internet too, I don’t know if they’re fun, but how about I try it tonight?"

James almost hit his head on the coffee table, staring dumbfounded at Charlotte. He hadn’t expected this little girl to actually have a masochistic side.

"Come on, Uncle, let’s play with whips and wax," Charlotte’s voice suddenly turned seductive.

James Brown hastily backed away, while Charlotte giggled triumphantly and said, "Uncle, there’s no need to scare me. I’m telling you, even if you really enjoy playing, I’ll play with you. I really like you and want to be your mistress. This way of scaring people is really lame."

Absolute wickedness!

That was James Brown’s evaluation of Charlotte now. Even facing the fiercest criminals, he did not want to deal with such a nefarious young lady.

"Uncle, do I really make you hate me so much that you have to drive me away?" Charlotte suddenly grew teary-eyed again, her big eyes gleaming, almost melting anyone’s heart.

Now, James wasn’t falling for Charlotte’s tricks. He coldly said, "You’re right, I’m least interested in bean sprout-like little girls. Having you here prevents me from finding women, so I won’t let you stay."

"Bean sprouts?" Charlotte jumped up, thrusting out her chest and shouted, "Uncle, do you have a problem with your eyesight? Does this body look like bean sprouts?"

It had to be said that Charlotte did have a nice figure, with a proud chest unlike the flatness typical of most girls, coupled with a youthful spirit—she was definitely the type adored by unscrupulous men.

Unfortunately, James now feared hassle the most, and he had promised Melody Yoody to start over with her. This meant he could not get involved with such young girls and, keeping a stern face, said, "No mistake, in my eyes, you are just a bean sprout. I like women with full chests and perky butts. You don’t meet my standards at all."

"You... I don’t care, I’m not leaving." Charlotte was infuriated by James Brown. In school, which boy did not try to please her? Just batting her eyelashes at those older men would make them lose their minds, but here, she was just a bean sprout.

"Are you leaving or not?" James Brown was also getting heated, glaring as he yelled.

"I’m not leaving!" Charlotte decisively flopped onto the couch and began to act petulant.

"So, you’re not leaving?" James grunted, about to throw Charlotte out when the phone rang inappropriately.

James wanted to ignore it, but Charlotte, sensing his intent, took advantage of James hesitating whether to answer the phone. She jumped up from the couch, slipped into the bedroom, and slammed the door shut with a bang.

James temporarily set Charlotte aside and picked up the phone. Seeing it was Melody Yoody’s call, he immediately answered. Melody’s voice came through, "James, how about you invite me to dinner tonight? I want to come over to your place."
