Chapter 142 Office
Chapter 142: Chapter 142 Office
In the midst of the clamorous noise, Mary Johnson and James Clark pulled each other away from the company. They intended to swagger in there, but Mary, a big jealous pot, under a string of not-so-clever lies from James Clark, actually forgot about the important matter at hand and fixated on whether James had really hired a prostitute.
Later, the quarrel between Mary and James drew Gina Lopez over, as well as the other people on that floor, who all came to watch the drama unfold. This floor was filled with the company’s upper echelon, with most knowing that these two would eventually take over the company, and everyone felt a chill in their heart. With such quality of character at the helm, how could things turn out well?
Once the door to Sunny Nguyen’s office was shut, only Gina Lopez and James Clark remained. Gina had sent everyone else away.
"Sister Sunny, don’t be angry. After all, we’re all leaving soon," Gina comforted Sunny.
Sunny Nguyen smiled faintly and said, "I’m fine, and I feel quite relieved now. I used to harbor some feelings for him, but now I’ve completely let go. The only thing I can’t get over is why I married him in the first place."
Gina stared at Sunny, and seeing no trace of reluctance on her face, really set her mind at ease and joked, "You’re right. It’s definitely for the best to leave such a man."
James Clark interjected, "You two chat. I’ll step out for a bit."
Gina glared at him and said, "You want to leave now? Just now, you said you were Sister Sunny’s man, but a lot of people heard that. Are you planning to deny it now?"
Sunny Nguyen quickly said, "Gina, he was helping me. Let’s not push us together again."
James Clark touched his nose and replied, "Exactly. If I say I’m someone’s man, then I’d have to be that person’s man, and all the beauties in the world would be mine."
Gina said to James Clark with a huff, "But there will definitely be gossip and rumors in the office. What then?"
"Since you all are leaving anyway, let them say what they want. I have thick skin, I don’t care what they say about me."
Gina was fuming. If it hadn’t been for James Clark coming to Sunny’s aid today, she would have really wanted to give him a piece of her mind. She huffed and walked out.
Now only Sunny Nguyen and James Clark were left in the office. Sunny approached James, chiding with a twinge of playful reproach, "You really shouldn’t say such things. I’m a divorced woman, so I’m not afraid, but you’re not even married yet. If this gets out, how will you ever find a girlfriend?"
James Clark extended his arm and wrapped it around Sunny’s waist, smiling and saying confidently, "Then it’ll be even easier for me. If I can be linked with a great beauty like Director Nguyen, it shows how excellent I am. Girls will flock to me like moths to a flame."
James Clark’s arm was strong, and soon Sunny’s stomach was pressed against his. Her body went weak, and she put her hands against his chest, feebly saying, "James, stop it, this is the company."
James Clark had only intended a casual embrace, but seeing Sunny’s captivated eyes, a certain thought would surge within him. He chuckled, "You know, it might be more exciting in the office. Should we give it a try?"
Sunny’s cheeks flushed hot as she quickly said, "No, no! You’ve already caused a scene here. If you stay in my office any longer, people will have even more wild ideas." Although she said this, feeling the pressure of a certain hard object against her, Sunny actually began to fantasize about an intense office encounter, and for a moment she couldn’t help but really want to try it out.
James Clark released Sunny, who nearly collapsed, but he quickly embraced her again, whispering in her ear, "I’ll let you off this time. When you go to your new office, I’ll come find you there."
Sunny couldn’t raise her head in embarrassment, but couldn’t manage to voice a rejection. She said softly, "That’s for later. Just go now."
Only then did James Clark truly let go of Sunny, and as he turned to leave, she called out to stop him, her face red, "Look at you. Are you planning to go out looking like that?"
James looked down at himself. He chuckled and said, "Or maybe you could help it out?"
"Get lost!" Sunny grabbed a cup of water and handed it to James, who drank it in one gulp. Without any further physical contact with Sunny, he quickly calmed down and left her office.
After James Clark left Sunny Nguyen’s office, he could feel the peculiar glances from everyone he passed—envy, jealousy, and contempt. Clearly, they all believed he was having an affair with Sunny.
Despite being divorced, Director Nguyen was a beautiful woman very popular among the men in the company. Unfortunately, they never had the chance to win her favor, but here was James Clark, a small staff member from the logistics department, getting the taste; no wonder it made the men green with envy.
James Clark directly ignored the stares of those people, casually returning to the logistics department. However, as soon as he entered, Jessica Wilson sidled up to him and whispered, "James, what happened between you and Director Nguyen..."
News sure spread fast—it seemed everyone in the logistics department already knew. James Clark chuckled and replied, "Do you think that’s possible? It’s just that I can’t stand those two show-offs, so I deliberately provoked them."
"Oh..." Jessica Wilson gave James Clark a meaningful glance. She couldn’t help but think that if this guy could deal with someone like Gina Lopez, it shouldn’t be too difficult for him to handle Sunny Nguyen either.
At that moment, Sunny Nguyen was sitting in her office, her mind curiously empty of the shameful episode with Mary Johnson and James Clark. Instead, she was completely agitated by the teasing from James Clark, imagining if she were to switch to a new company, the passionate scenes that could unfold in her office with James Clark visiting.
"Will it be on the office desk, or on the couch? Or perhaps... should I get a bed for my office?"
After entertaining those thoughts for a while, Sunny Nguyen suddenly patted her face gently, shook her head vigorously, and laughed at herself, "Sunny Nguyen, oh Sunny Nguyen, aren’t you supposed to be a conservative woman? How have you become so wanton, even looking forward to such things? There’s no future with you and James Clark. You can’t harm yourself or others."
Although she reminded herself of this, she knew she should break it off with James Clark to not tarnish his reputation. Yet, she was uncontrollably drawn to the passionate thoughts involving him, leaving her torn and unsure of what to do.
That afternoon, as James Clark was sitting in the logistics department office, Gina Lopez gave him a call. As soon as James Clark answered, Gina Lopez blurted out, "My resignation has been approved; I’m heading home now. You don’t have to wait for me." Then she hung up.
James Clark shook his head. The head office couldn’t wait for Gina Lopez to leave, it seemed. Having submitted her resignation just in the morning, it had already been approved by the afternoon—quite the remarkable speed.
Right after the call ended, the door to the logistics department office opened and Emma Davis walked in, announcing, "At two-thirty, there will be a company-wide meeting. No one is to be absent."
"Minister Davis, what’s this about?" Emily Smith immediately inquired.
Emma Davis let out a sigh and answered, "Our new general manager has called for it."
"Ah, Mr. Lopez’s resignation has been approved so quickly?" Everyone in the logistics department was surprised.
Emma Davis nodded and said, "There’s no need to overthink things. Just focus on your jobs, and there shouldn’t be any problems. Alright, everyone hurry and get ready. The meeting starts in ten minutes, and I don’t want our department to be in violation of any rules."
Everyone quickly got ready, but Sarah Utah lagged behind a step, walking beside James Clark. She asked him quietly, "Big Brother Clark, should we also attend?"
"Of course, we have to go. We’re still employees here, aren’t we?"
Sarah Utah nodded, her trust in James Clark was absolute.
The large conference room on the twentieth floor was the biggest in the entire building, not belonging to any one company but the building itself, capable of accommodating three hundred people. Since JYPP Region Company only had about a hundred employees, the room was quite spacious.
Up on the stage, James Clark sat in the center with Mary Johnson right beside him. The other people were a mix of original company staff and new arrivals of recent days. James Clark looked confident and upright, his gaze occasionally sweeping over the employees seated below.
When his eyes fell upon James Clark, a sharp glint flashed in his gaze, followed by a faint cold smile at the corner of his mouth.
At two-thirty, the meeting began. The chief clerk introduced the leaders on the stage, revealing James Clark as the new general manager. Gina Lopez’s resignation was briefly mentioned, and then James Clark was invited to speak.
James Clark delivered a speech full of grandiose but empty statements, concluding with, "Dear JYPP Region employees, for the company’s development, we need to make some changes. Those who cannot fulfill their roles at JYPP Region Company must be decisively let go."
This statement instantly made every employee feel insecure, fearing for their own job security.
James Clark then continued, "Although I have just arrived, I have observed some unsatisfactory behaviors, especially from logistics’ James Clark. Relying on his previous position as Mr. Lopez’s driver, he disrespected the company’s leadership and severely disrupted company order. Therefore, I am now announcing the termination of James Clark’s employment."
All eyes turned toward James Clark, each person feeling a mix of gloom and unease. James Clark was Gina Lopez’s driver—it made sense for the new leadership to not use him, but an outright dismissal was quite severe indeed.
