The Supreme Soldier in the City
Chapter 137: Revenge

Chapter 137: Chapter 137: Revenge

The next day, Gina Lopez had James Brown drive her to the company. She had a feeling that if she let James accompany Emily Lopez, the two of them would play even wilder. But if she just let Emily go out to play by herself, she wouldn’t cause much of a commotion; therefore, she decisively had James go to work today.

Today, Gina did not directly submit her resignation to the headquarters. She still had some matters to take care of. For her, it was essential to see things through from beginning to end. Even if she was going to leave, she insisted on completing all the tasks on hand.

It was after six when Gina finally left the company. By that time, there weren’t many people left inside the building; only James Brown was waiting in the logistics department, idly playing some computer games.

Gina called out to him, and the two of them took the elevator down together and went straight to the underground parking garage.

Just as they were about to get into the car, six men suddenly rushed out, each wielding items like wooden clubs and iron rods, and swiftly surrounded them.

"Who are you?" asked Gina, who, as a company executive, remained unflappable in the face of change, her gaze coldly fixed on the six individuals.

One of them, a man in his thirties with a beard, was smacking a baseball bat into his left palm and sneered, "It doesn’t matter who we are, but let me make one thing clear to you: we’re here on Thomas Johnson’s orders."

"Thomas Johnson? I don’t know him. You’ve made a mistake," Gina frowned, unable to recall knowing anyone by that name.

"Listen, girl, don’t play dumb. Our Mr. Quinn said he wants to take you back with him, so you better be ready to be graced by Mr. Quinn’s favors," the bearded man said mockingly.

"Ha ha..." The other five men joined in with boisterous laughter.

At this moment, James Brown realized that these six individuals were sent by the dissipated sons he had fought at W Temple the day before yesterday. For people like them, remembering Gina’s license plate number and locating her was all too easy. Moreover, considering that Thomas Johnson had managed to track down the car’s owner, he should have known who Gina Lopez was. The fact that they dared to act showed their audacity was far from ordinary.

James Brown didn’t want Gina to know that he had gotten into a fight while with Emily and immediately shot them an intimidating glare, bellowing, "Scram!"

"The kid’s got guts; no wonder he dared to hit Mr. Quinn. But you’re out of luck today. Attack!" The bearded man signaled the attack and was the first to swing his club towards James Brown’s head with ruthless force.

Gina screamed in fright. Even with her composure, there was nothing much she could do faced with these unreasonable thugs, and she instinctively cried out. If the club hit James on the head, it could have been fatal or at least caused a concussion.

But to James, these men were hardly worth his attention. Dodging the incoming club by shifting his body to the side, he swiftly kicked out, sending the bearded fellow tumbling to the ground.

Like a tiger descending into a flock of sheep, he fought with punches and kicks, each blow landing with brutal precision. Although the thugs were armed, they were helpless, unable to even graze a piece of James’s clothing.

James, not wanting to give the goons a chance to spout more nonsense that might lead Gina to make connections, didn’t hit them with full force. He didn’t want to knock them out and have to detain and question them, so he aimed for the most painful parts but avoided disabling them entirely.

It didn’t take long for the thugs to become unbearably sore, and they realized they were no match for James. Instead of suffering more humiliation, they decided to retreat and find another way to get back at James in the future.

"Retreat!" barked the bearded man, and they immediately dropped their clubs and rushed into a van, quickly disappearing from the underground parking garage.

Gina watched in astonishment, thinking the two of them were certainly doomed against the six attackers. However, she hadn’t expected that James would manage to fend them all off alone. He truly was formidable.

"What a bunch of idiots. I have no idea where they sprang from, talking about Mr. Quinn—it’s just absurd," James mumbled to himself. Then, aiming to please, he said to Gina, "Ms. Lopez, I hope that didn’t scare you just now?"

Gina shook her head, her gaze fixed on James for a long while without blinking, making him feel uncomfortable. Avoiding her look, he asked, "Ms. Lopez, what’s wrong?"

Hugging her shoulders, Gina said, "You really are something, working as a security guard with those skills. It’s quite a waste."

James shrugged, "Being skilled doesn’t help; I don’t want to get involved with the underworld. Being a security guard was the only choice, and luckily, you recognized my potential and gave me a white-collar job."

Gina took another look at James and then got into the car. Suddenly, she felt that he wasn’t as simple as she had previously thought. There were many facets to him that a regular person couldn’t possibly exhibit. She had never truly paid attention to James before, but now she suddenly wanted to understand his past.

However, she wasn’t like Emily, who would have directly asked her questions. Instead, she kept her curiosity to herself because she had too many concerns at the moment and no energy to dwell on James. The question remained, "Why would those men come after us?" Gina was sensitive to this issue; at this time, such an incident could have significant implications.

James gave a wry smile and replied, "I don’t know either. Who knows who Mr. Quinn is? I certainly don’t."

Gina Lopez frowned slightly as James Brown had just said, "Ms. Lopez, could this be the doing of some people in the headquarters who want to force you out?"

Gina had already thought of this, and her expression grew even more somber as she said, "If they want me to leave, do they really need to resort to such methods?"

"It’s hard to say, Ms. Lopez. You’re so popular in the company; everyone supports you. Whether it’s branch or headquarters, everyone knows that JYPP Region wouldn’t be where it is without you. Now, they want to take over this branch. What would the other executives think of that? What about the employees inside JYPP Region Company and the companies that work with JYPP Region? So, their plan is probably to push you to leave voluntarily. That way, they can take over legitimately without any gossip, which would be killing several birds with one stone."

Gina’s chest heaved dramatically a few times, and she had to admit that James Brown made sense. However, she wasn’t going to jump to conclusions based on a simple analysis. Shaking her head, she said, "Without evidence, we can’t make wild guesses." But deep down, the idea of leaving this place solidified even more.

James Brown secretly chuckled, knowing he had successfully diverted Gina’s thoughts away from suspecting that the trouble had been caused by him and Emily Lopez.

However, James felt that this matter would eventually have to be dealt with; after all, Mr. Quinn might seek Gina out again for trouble at any moment. If Gina were to get hurt, that would be terrible.

But then again, upon further thought, there was nothing to worry about. Gina would soon be working with Lucy Campbell, and who would dare to cause trouble under her watch? That would be as if they had the audacity of a leopard and longed for a short life. As for that Mr. Quinn, he was nothing but scum in front of Lucy Campbell.

At that moment, Gina took out her phone and called Sunny Nguyen.

"Sister Sunny, I want to have a serious talk with you. Can you come over to my house later... Great, I’ll be home in about ten minutes."

After hanging up, Gina frowned in thought. But as soon as she and James arrived home and saw Emily Lopez pouting in annoyance, Gina remembered she had a sister at home too. Why had she invited Sunny over?

"Sis, are you kidding me? Coming back this late, I’m starving," Emily complained, rubbing her belly and glaring at Gina.

Gina replied irritably, "How old are you? Can’t you eat something if you’re hungry?"

"I wanted to eat the food brother-in-law makes; my cooking isn’t tasty."

James chuckled and said, "I’ll go and start cooking right now, your sister and I haven’t eaten either."

"You haven’t eaten either? That makes me feel better," Emily laughed mischievously and added, "I thought you two had run off to enjoy a world of your own."

Suddenly, there was a knocking at the door—Sunny had arrived so quickly.

Gina went to open the door, and Sunny, upon seeing the twin sisters in the house, widened her eyes in shock and said, "Who exactly is Ms. Lopez here? I can’t tell you apart at all."

Gina approached her and said, "Sister Sunny, this is my sister Emily Lopez. Emily, this is Sunny Nguyen, the Chief Financial Officer of our company and a good friend of mine."

Emily, smiling cheerily, stepped forward and extended her hand, saying, "Nice to meet you, Sister Sunny."

Sunny responded with a warm smile, "Nice to meet you. You two really do look alike; I can’t differentiate at all." Then she turned to James and said, "James Brown, you wouldn’t mistake your girlfriend, would you?"

James replied helplessly, "I can’t tell them apart either."

Gina then spoke, "Sister Sunny, I have something I need to discuss with you. Let’s go to my room." And she took Sunny by the arm and led her into the room.

Emily followed James into the kitchen, not saying a word. She just leaned against the counter, watching him with eyes that darted around mischievously.

"What are you thinking about?" James knew by the look in Emily’s eye that the young lady must have come up with some kind of scheme.

Emily giggled and said, "I just thought of something really fun, super fun, haha..." and then she ran off laughing.

James was left completely baffled, unsure of what Emily could be thinking of, but somehow, he had a nagging feeling it definitely involved him.
