Chapter 91: Tyrants [2]

Derek gave chains of commands.

"Wear it down. Keep the distance. Don’t stop."

The rogues moved fast. All of them were skilled. They ran in wide circles around the monster, keeping at least ten meters away at all times. Each step was smooth. No sound or wasted motion.

They moved like shadows.

The monster roared and lashed out with its four arms, but it couldn’t catch anyone. Every second, arrows, fireballs, and lightning bolts shot toward it from different angles. The ground shook under the weight of the attacks.

Derek stayed close to the monster. He dodged every strike easily. His sword moved fast. He cut the monster’s legs, arms, and chest whenever he saw an opening. He didn’t get hit once.

The other rogues didn’t worry about hitting Derek. They were careful and were only aiming at the monster.

The monster started to panic. It realized what they were doing. It tried to break free and escape the formation.

But a rogue was waiting.

He jumped forward and threw out a set of chains. The tips of the chains were sharp, curved daggers. The chains wrapped around the monster’s legs and arms.

Then ’bam’ the ends of the chains slammed into the ground and stuck deep into the earth.

A spell was activated. Gravity magic.

The chains pulled the monster down, pinning it in place.

And then

Rains of thunder magic. Ice spears. Wind blades. Arrows with enchantments.

All of it came from every direction.

The monster screamed. Its body shook. Sparks flew. Blood spilled. It couldn’t move.

But it still didn’t fall. It was strong and its hide was too tough.

Derek narrowed his eyes.

"Keep going. Don’t give it time to think."

The monster let out a sharp screech.

Its muscles bulged as it yanked hard on the chains.

The ground cracked. The chains groaned.

Then snap!, the chains broke loose.

The force of it threw dust and dirt into the air. Some rogues staggered back.

Before they could react, the monster grabbed the broken chains.

And It spun them around like whips.

One rogue tried to jump back, but the chain wrapped around his leg. He was flung like a ragdoll and slammed into a tree.

Another rogue blocked with a magic shield, but the chain smashed through it and hit him in the chest. He flew back with a cry.

Derek rushed in. He sliced one of the swinging chains, trying to take control of the fight again. Sparks flew, but the chain didn’t break.

"Stay alert!" Derek shouted.

It’s using our weapons now. This is getting too dangerous

The monster roared again, chains spinning in both hands like deadly flails.

But the rogues didn’t back down.

They adjusted quickly, spreading out wider, forcing the monster to divide its attention. Some circled behind trees, using them for cover. Others launched attacks from a safe distance.

The forest echoed with the clash of steel, bursts of magic, and the growls of the monster.

Derek rushed forward again. His sword gleamed in the dim forest light.

This time, the monster was ready.

It raised its upper two arms, spinning the chains in wide arcs, deflecting the spells and arrows coming from the rogues behind. Sparks flew as magic hit the swinging metal.

Then it lowered its other two arms, claws flashing as it met Derek head-on.

The clash was loud. Steel met bone. Claws scraped against Derek’s blade.

Derek ducked a swipe and countered with a quick thrust. The monster blocked with its wrist and slashed back using the other arm.

He leaned back just in time, the claw missing his face by inches.

The two moved fast. Too fast for most to follow.

One of the monster’s chains caught a falling fireball and flung it aside like trash.

It was fighting on two fronts, defending from the team’s attacks with two arms, and dueling Derek with the other two.

"This thing’s smarter than it looks," Derek muttered, dodging again.

He dashed to the side, trying to draw the monster away from the rogues. The creature followed, dragging the chains with it, its claws ready to strike again.

Each time Derek blocked with his sword, the monster’s claws scraped against the blade.

Sparks flew. Metal shrieked.

Bit by bit, his weapon started to wear down. Tiny chips appeared on the edge. Then larger ones.

"Tch...those damn claws are sharper than they look," Derek gritted out, glancing at the damage.

The monster pressed harder. It swung with wild force, but not without skill. Every strike was aimed to destroy his weapon or open his guard.

Derek shifted his stance, keeping light on his feet. He twisted and dodged, countering with fast jabs when he could. But the monster’s defense was tight.

Its upper arms kept blocking the spells and arrows still raining from behind. Its lower arms kept attacking Derek, blow after blow.

"This isn’t going to work," one of the rogues whispered, watching from a distance. "We’re barely making a dent."

"We need to change tactics," another said, readying another gravity chain.

Derek stepped back, breathing hard. His sword now had a deep crack running through the center. One or two more direct clashes and it might snap.

The monster let out a shrill screech and spun its chains again, daring them to come closer.

But Derek’s eyes narrowed. He still had a plan.

Derek tossed aside the damaged sword without hesitation and drew a long, silver spear from his system storage. The weapon shimmered faintly with old energy.

He took one deep breath and shouted.

"<Momentum!>"

A burst of force rippled around his body. His muscles tensed. His steps became heavier. Power flowed through him.

He dashed forward, closing the gap in an instant.

"Maglor Style—Triple Thrust Barrage!"

First Thrust: "Piercing Lunge"

His spear shot forward like a bolt of lightning, tip glinting cold and deadly. It punched through the monster’s guard, sinking into the meat of its upper arm with a wet ’thunk’. The beast roared, jerking back, but Derek didn’t let it retreat.

Second Thrust: "Spiral Drive"

He twisted the spear, the blade rotating viciously as it drilled deeper, tendons and sinew snapping under the force. Dark ichor sprayed, flecking Derek’s face. The monster staggered, one arm hanging limp—

Derek shouted, "NOW!"

Final Thrust: "Shattering Impact"

Derek’s whole body slammed forward, his spear driving like a piston into the monster’s chest. A crack echoed through the trees as ribs splintered, then the force detonated, a shockwave blasting the beast off its feet. It crashed into a gnarled oak, bark exploding from the impact.

BOOM!

A shockwave exploded from the hit, cracking the ground beneath them. The chains around the beast shattered and flew apart like broken glass.

But so did the spear.

The weapon snapped in half from the force. Derek was thrown backward from the recoil but landed safely, sliding back with grit teeth.

The monster stumbled, wide open.

In the very next moment.

Four melee fighters dashed in, coming from all sides.

From the front. From the left. From the right. From behind.

And just as the monster raised its head.

A fifth figure dropped from above, sword drawn.
