Chapter 397: Painful Memories

...But how was it that he had suddenly jumped into the apocalypse? And he had actually become a zombie?

Subconsciously, he looked at his clothes. It was at that moment that he suddenly realized that he was extremely dirty. Additionally, he was wearing rags for clothes? Moreover, there was even blood on some part of his clothes.

Although some of the blood was dry, there was even a part that possessed blood that had yet to fully dry. The smell that was coming from his own body was so irritating that Eric suddenly felt that he wanted to vomit.

Then, comparing his clothes to those that the zombies were wearing, he suddenly realized that they looked the same. All of them were extremely dirty, and the majority of them had already been torn into pieces. After all, the zombies had been wearing the same clothes for the past over 5 months already.

It was then that suddenly, Eric thought of something. According to the movies that he had been watching during the time that he was free, he realized that the zombies actually ate human flesh. Did that imply that during the time that he was a zombie, he had actually eaten human flesh?

Just thinking of that, Eric suddenly felt disgusted. Without hesitation, he began spitting out, as if he was trying to spit out the taste of all the flesh that he had eaten during the time that he was a zombie. But at the end of it all, there was nothing that changed at all.

He tried taking off the clothes that he was wearing considering the they were smelling, but he forced himself to stop when he realized that there was actually a lady present in this place. How was he supposed to be naked in front of her?

Completely overwhelmed, Eric’s eyes suddenly rolled back and he collapsed into the ground, unconscious.

Henry had been observing Eric all this while. Of course he understood that Eric had been overwhelmed by all the feelings that hit him at once. But this was to be expected. After all, how would a person suddenly feel when they were informed that they had actually been eating human flesh for over 5 months?

Additionally, they were actually zombies before this. Even for himself, although Henry believed that he possessed good willpower, he would definitely not feel good about it. After all, there was definitely no way that he could just ignore the fact that he had been eating human flesh all along.

Shaking his head, Henry looked at Alex and nodded at him. It was a clear sign that they had to go on with the testing. Since the first ability had already been tested out, it was time to test out the second ability.

So far, according to the results, the outcome was actually quite positive. It was just that they had to deal with the psychological issues that those that had been transformed back into humans would face.

Henry was very sure that there would be many people that would end up killing themselves after realizing that they had actually been zombies for 5 months. After all, not everybody could handle that fact.

Alex took a step forward. At this time, Dylan had already brought over another level 9 bronze rank zombie. Dylan was quite efficient it seemed...

The same process was repeated. Alex went ahead and placed his hand on top of the head of the zombie that had been restricted by Dylan.

Just like before, a red glow suddenly appeared on Alex’s hand that was on top of the head of the zombie the moment that he activated the second ability that he possessed. It was just that this light was glaring, completely unlike the previous one.

The red light went ahead and covered the zombie’s entire body. Then in the next moment, the red light sunk into the zombie’s body, before the zombie collapse on to the ground, and began spasming violently.

After about 3 minutes, finally, the zombie began its transformation. The rotten skin transformed into that of a human, as the heartbeat and the other functions of the body were actually restored.

Slowly, the real appearance of the person that had been chosen this time was revealed. The zombie that had been selected by Dylan this time was a lady. It was actually a lady who seemed to be in her late forties.

The moment that she opened her eyes, she looked around confusedly. But there was one thing that could not escape Henry’s eyes, and that was the fact that there was a hint of fear and despair in those eyes.

Completely unlike Eric, this lady did not suddenly stand up and question where she was. Instead, she just remained lying on the ground, without making any movements. But from the corners of her eyes, tears suddenly began gliding down towards her cheeks before they dropped onto the ground.

Just as Alex had said before, the second ability allowed the person who was being transformed from being a zombie back to being a human would retain their full strength during the time that they were zombies, and also the memories that they previously possessed.

So, the lady whose name was Judy also realized everything that had happened. Of course previously, she was unconscious and was controlled by the zombie virus that had taken over the body. But right now, since she had recovered, she had also gotten the memories that she had in that state.

It was just too overwhelming. She could remember clearly the time that she was biting humans, and eating their flesh. The time when she had gone ahead and dug out the internals of a person, before chewing them raw.

All those gory scenes were extremely clear in her mind. And from the looks of it, it was going to be impossible for her to be able to forget them, and they might end up becoming a nightmare for her.

The thing that pained her the most was the fact that she had actually killed her own husband using her own bare hands.

During the time that the transformation of humans into zombies began, she had been together with her husband in bed. They were sleeping considering that it was late at night. But at that time, she suddenly felt a lot of pressure being exerted on her.

At the same time, she suddenly felt like she had been dropped in an area where everywhere was dark. Additionally, sorrowful cries reached her ears from all directions. After she was completely overwhelmed, she did not remember what happened, as she had turned into a zombie.

But now, those memories of what had actually happened appeared in her mind. The moment that she turned into a zombie, her husband had already been woken up by the reaction that she was having during the time that she was transforming into a zombie.

He looked completely worried about her, and he was even planning to take her to the hospital for a checkup. But she on the other hand did not even care about the feelings that he was having towards her.

Just as he was looking at her, bringing his face close to her, trying to ask about how she was, she did not hesitate to bite his nose. Then, while he was screaming, she utilized her long nails to scratch him furiously.

She had completely latched onto him, and no matter how hard he tried, he was not released by her. Slowly but surely, he was cut by the long nails while at the same time being bitten by his own wife. In the end, he succumbed to the injuries.

Immediately after killing her husband, the zombie Judy went ahead and moved to the side, as she began staggering around the room, without anywhere to go. At this point in time, the door had already been closed since it was night time and they were sleeping.

Her husband had also transformed into a zombie. As for the parts of the skin that had been eaten, they did not recover at all, but the zombie husband of hers did not even feel the pain from having his internal organs dragging out of his body as he walked.

The two of them continued staying in the room, and only when someone opened the door, all of them rushed there. The husband was not that lucky considering that the moment that he went ahead to the door, being the closest to it during the time that it was being opened, was hit by a hammer on the head.

He collapsed onto the ground after the head was completely crushed by the hammer. She on the other hand was just behind her husband. So, the one who had utilized his hammer to kill her husband did not have a chance of reacting considering that he was not capable of retrieving the hammer on time.

She went ahead and ate him, though she suffered a few injuries. Immediately after that, she joined the rest of the zombies in going around the city, trying to find humans that they could bite and eat, while at the same time infecting them with the virus.

Finally, today, she had been wondering around, when she was suddenly kidnapped and brought here.

"It seems that after the transformation, we will have to give them the time to relax. This is especially so for those that regain the memories of themselves during the time that they were zombies." Henry who had been observing Judy all this while stated.

Of course, he had already seen the information about her, and just like Alex had said before, she was actually at level 9 of the Bronze rank. That implied that the power level that she possessed had actually been retained.

Alex and the others also thought the same way. Still, Alex looked at Henry and asked, "Should I continue utilizing the second ability, or should I use the first ability so that they don’t have the memories of the time that they were zombies?"
