The Soul System in the Apocalypse
Chapter 396: Mentally Ill

Chapter 396: Mentally Ill

The rotten skin of the zombie suddenly began regaining its color. Additionally, the long nails that the zombie possessed also began reducing in size, as they finally regained their color from the initial black color.

The transformation of the zombie back into a human did not take much time. It only took about a minute, before the transformation was finally completed.

Alex had already retreated, and he was observing the transformation that was occurring together with Henry and the other two. Although it was true that he had already received information about how the ability that he possessed worked, this was the first time that he was using it after all.

So, just like Henry, he was also curious about how this ability worked. And he could not help but marvel at how miraculous it was. It was actually capable of transforming a zombie back into a human, and all of this happened in front of his own eyes.

Henry squinted his eyes as he looked at the figure that was now lying on the ground. Without hesitation, he looked for information about this person.

Power Level: Level 4 bronze rank

Profession: (not selected)

Skills: ??? ]

Henry could not help but raise his brows the moment that he realized that he could not see the race of a zombie in this person. Instead, he could even see the name of the person, together with his power level that had reduced from level 9 of the bronze rank to level 4 of the Bronze rank.

Henry turned to look at Alex and asked, "You said that your first ability is going to enable this guy to turn from a zombie, and back into a human, while the power that he possessed before will be reduced by half. Why is it that his power level is lower than half?"

It was true that from level 9 of the Bronze rank, if it was divided by two, a person was going to get 4.5. But then again, the difference between the first four levels and the last four levels was definitely not something that could be compared to each other.

Just the gap between level 4 and level 5, and the one that existed between level 5 and level 6 was definitely not the same. So, according to Henry’s calculations, half of the power of a level 9 bronze rank zombie was definitely about level 7 of the Bronze rank, not 4.

Alex scratched the back of his head as he responded, "Actually, the power being reduced by half literally means the levels, and not the real power that the person possessed."

Henry finally got an understanding of what it was that Alex was implying before. Nevertheless, he could not help but be slightly disappointed. After all, even if they decided to transform the zombies back into humans, that implied that if they utilized the first ability that Alex possessed, then they would have to nurture those people again in order for them to be able to rank up.

Nevertheless, Henry focused on the figure that was lying on the ground. It was a young man with black hair. He was currently looking quite dirty considering that the zombies never cared about their hygiene anyway.

Just as he was observing the figure on the ground, the eyes of the young man suddenly opened up, revealing the brown pupils that looked around confusedly. Then, those eyes focused on the figures in front of them.

Eric suddenly got up to his feet. He looked at Henry and the others warily. He was not sure about where he was, but looking at the way that Henry and the others were dressed, he could not help but feel a little overwhelmed.

He could not remember anything that had happened until he got here. But nevertheless, he could not help but think that perhaps Henry and the others had suddenly kidnapped him to come here and act a movie?

"Who are you guys?" Eric asked as he took a step backwards. At the same time, he began looking around, trying to find a way that he was going to get out of here in case Henry and the others possessed malicious intentions towards him.

"Eric, you have to calm down. We are currently in an apocalypse, and you are lucky that you are the first zombie that has been converted back into a human." Alex said as he tried to assure Eric, making sure that the young man did not panic.

Eric’s movements suddenly froze for a moment. He looked at Alex as if he was looking at a mentally ill patient. Apocalypse? It seemed that he had actually been brought over to a place by mentally ill patients. Could it be that they had already escaped from where they were being kept?

Just looking at the way that they were dressed, additionally to what they had just said, that implied that they were actually not here to play a movie, but instead, they were having problems with their mind.

But then again, there was another thing that he paid attention to. That was the fact that Alex had said that he was actually the first zombie that had been converted back into being a human.

"Are you guys sick or something? You are trying to tell me that I was a zombie before? Why don’t I know about it? Let me tell you one thing, you better not try messing around with me. I don’t know how you got me here, but you better take me back before things get bad." Eric responded with a domineering tone, though there was a hint of fear on his face.

Of course Eric understood one thing, mentally ill people could actually do anything that they thought that was right. What if he said something, and they suddenly decided that they had to beat him up? Perhaps they could even say that he was actually a zombie, and the conversion of a zombie into a human had actually failed.

Alex could not help but feel a little flabbergasted. What was wrong with this guy? Did he not understand what he had just said? It was not as if he had spoken in parables, right?

Just as he was wondering what to say, Henry who was observing Eric all this while looked at Alex and asked, "Do they recover the memory that they possessed during the time that they were a zombie after the conversion back into a human?"

It was only then that Alex finally remembered something. He hurriedly shook his head and responded, "I actually forgot about that. For the first ability, those that had become zombies would be transformed back to humans. And other than losing half of the strength that they possessed during the time that they were zombies, they will not possess any memory about the time that they were zombies."

"They will only remember about the last thing that they had seen or been doing before they turned into zombies. As for the second ability, it has the ability of recovering the memories of a person during the time that they were zombies."

Eric realized that it was actually impossible to talk logically with this mental patients. They were still talking about zombies, as if they were in a fantasy situation.

Shaking his head, realizing that they were not paying much attention to him, he decided to look for a way out. So far, the only method that he had seen to get out of this place was the entrance that was located behind this group of people. But of course, there was no way that he was going to use that way out considering that Henry and the others were blocking it.

He turned around, Intending to look for a method that he could utilize to get out of this place. But that was when he suddenly froze. Behind him, there was a large number of people that were chained.

They possessed horrific expressions on their faces, and some of them had already began rotting. It was also at this point that Eric suddenly realized that there was actually an awful smell in the air.

It turned out that the source of the smell that he was getting ever since he had woken up was actually coming from this group of people with rotten skin. His heart suddenly began beating rapidly, as he thought that perhaps he had been brought over for experiment.

But then again, it was not as if he had never watched movies about the apocalypse, and the zombies. The appearance of all these people behind him matched correctly with the appearance of the zombies that he had been seeing on televisions.

And currently, all of them were actually looking at him with those blood red eyes that sent chills down his spine. Eric did not hesitate to retreat towards Henry’s direction.

"Are... Are those zombies?" With a trembling voice, Eric asked as he retreated. No matter how much he wanted to think that this was actually a joke, the color of the eyes, the clothes that all these people were wearing, the way that they were looking at him hungrily, all of them indicated that they were actually zombies!

"Of course they are. You are really lucky that you are among those few zombies that had been selected for the testing period. Otherwise, perhaps by the time that I would be utilizing my ability to clear out the zombies, you would have already been killed by some humans out there." Alex responded sarcastically.

Eric finally realized that it seemed that this group of people was not a group of mentally ill patients. Instead, it seemed that they were actually in the apocalypse! But how was it that he had suddenly jumped into the apocalypse? And he had actually become a zombie?
