The Shadow of a Luna
Chapter 44 - 45

Chapter 44: Chapter 45

TYLER POV

"We will stay and help. I have a feeling that we’re the ones that bought this to you. We’ll stay until the next attack. You say that they are becoming more frequent." I say.

"Yeah. It was every three days and then two days so the next attack should be tonight. But we don’t know what side of the boarder that they will attack from. They change that up all the time." Ryan says.

"Okay. We’ll sort it out. We’ll help and tell your men to try and take one alive. We need to question him." I say.

"No worries." Ryan says.

When we left his office we were shown to our rooms and I sat on the bed and pulled out my phone to call Tessa.

"Hello." She answered.

"Hi baby. How are you and bub going?" I asked.

"You’ve been gone for a couple of hours. We’re fine." She says sounding frustrated. And I tried not to laugh but Eli was laughing in my head. He thought it was funny how she was getting so frustrated with us fussing all over her.

"I am calling to let you know that we’re staying the night. Maybe a couple of nights. It depends on when the next attack happens." I explain.

"Alright. How bad is it?" She asked.

"Well, no one has been killed which I think it weird. The rogues aren’t killing these men. Just hurting them. That’s what I don’t understand. We have advanced healing powers. More advanced than rogues. We heal quicker than them because we belong to a pack and we’re stronger for it." I explained.

"That is weird. Have any rogues been killed?" She asked.

"Yeah. A couple." I say.

"Well, they would want vengeance for their family or friend that just died. Why aren’t they killing back?" She asked.

"Exactly. Hopefully we’ll find out tonight. If they attack tonight then we’re gonna try and get one alive. Question him. Torture him. Whatever it takes." Tyler says.

"Alright. And then hurry up and get back here because I want to go baby shopping. There’s furniture that we need for the nursery." She says and I could hear the smirk in her voice.

"You better not have painted that nursery without me." I snapped standing up.

"Me? Never." She said in mock shock.

"You know that we didn’t decide on a color." I say.

"Oh. I thought we did. Or maybe we just did in my head. Or it was me and Shiloh. Or me and Bella. I don’t know. Too many people are talking to me about babies right now. I’m getting confused." She whimpers trying to sound all innocent.

"Don’t play that innocent act with me. It doesn’t work on me." I say.

"Yes it does." She retorted.

"I have to go. The sun is setting. You better hope that room is not painted when I get home." I threatened.

"And what are you going to do to your pregnant wife if it is painted when you get home? Absolutely nothing. See ya." She said laughing and hung up quickly.

"Ooh that women is going to be the death of me." I growl to myself.

TESSA POV

As soon as I hung up the phone Bella and Aria started laughing their asses off.

"Does he think that you actually painted the nursery without him?" Bella asked.

"Yep." I say laughing.

"Oh my god. He’s going to kill you when he gets home." Aria says.

"No he won’t. He’ll just be relieved that it’s not painted." I say getting up and going to the kitchen.

I started rummaging through the fridge and cupboard looking for something to eat for dinner.

"You shouldn’t be doing that." Aria says.

"Oh my god. I can still see my feet so I can still cook dinner. My belly isn’t getting in the way of anything." I say frustrated.

"Sorry. I know that sounded like Tyler." She says.

"Yeah. Just a little." I say. And I started prepping the vegetables and then putting everything on to cook.

There weren’t too many people around the packhouse anymore. Only the Alpha, Beta and Gamma. So I only had to cook for four people tonight. Not six. And I enjoyed cooking. It was relaxing. And everyone knows that I needed to keep busy.

When I finally finished dinner I called out to Carter and he came to the dining room and we ate dinner together.

"Have you heard anything from the guys?" I asked.

"No. Radio silence at the moment. But I know that their out on patrol at the moment. Seeing if the rogues attack tonight or not." Carter explained.

"Okay." I say.

"Are you worried?" Bella asked.

"Of course I’m worried. He might be driving me crazy but I still love the bastard." I say and Aria chuckles at that.

"Yeah. Sounds like it." She says.

After dinner I sat at the back outdoor area reading a book when I heard something in the woods off in the distance. I looked up but I couldn’t see anything so I just assumed that it was the patrols.

I headed up to bed not long after that but I was having a lot of time sleeping. I was tossing and turning. I couldn’t get comfortable. My eyes wouldn’t close and my mind wouldn’t shut off. I had this horrible feeling in the pit of my stomach and I finally sat up and grabbed the phone.

I tried to call Tyler but there was no answer. So I tried to reach him through the mind link hoping that he would be in range, but I was met with radio silence. So I got out of bed and the clock said it was 2am. I had been trying to sleep for four hours with no luck.

So I trudged down three flights of stairs but I stopped half way down the last flight of stairs when I saw the front door was wide open.

’Carter.’ I say in the mind link.

’Luna. Are you okay?’ He asked.

’Come to the foyer.’ I said blankly. And within seconds he was in the foyer at the bottom of the stairs.

"I couldn’t sleep and I came downstairs to find the door wide open. It’s never wide open. Especially in the middle of the night." I say.

"Stay in here." He says heading out the front door and I heard him open the mindlink to the warriors telling them to search near the packhouse. There may have been an intruder.

They searched for two hours but they couldn’t find anything and they didn’t pick up an scent’s. So Carter came back where I was waiting in the kitchen with a coffee.

"We didn’t find anything or pick up a scent. It might have been an accident. Someone just didn’t close the door properly." He says.

"You’re probably right. I’m sorry for getting you up." I say.

"It’s what I’m here for. Don’t apologize." He says.

"I just have this weird feeling that something bad is going to happen. I can’t explain it. Something is going to happen." I say. " I tried to contact Tyler but he’s not answering." I say.

"He’ll be out on patrol with the guards from Silver River pack. He’ll call when he can. Do you want me to stay up with you?" He asked.

"No. Go back to bed. I’m probably just being stupid and hormonal." I say.

"Alright. I’ll see you in the morning." He says leaving. And I pulled out my phone.

Me - Tyler. Call me the second you get this message. It doesn’t matter what time it is. I’m awake.

TYLER POV

I got back from patrol with the Silver River pack at dawn and there were no rogue attacks last night. Something wasn’t adding up around here. But I said that we would stay until we sorted it out. And we needed one of those bastards alive to tell us why they were attacking.

So I went to my room and I had a shower and I got dressed and then I sat on my bed and I checked my phone. There were two missed calls from Tessa and then a text message that she sent me at 4am. What the hell is she doing up that early? So I called her back immediately.

"Hey baby." She answered.

"Hi. Is everything okay? Why were you awake all night?" I asked.

"I don’t know. I couldn’t sleep. I have this really bad feeling Tyler. You need to come home." She says.

"Is it the baby?" I asked.

"No. It’s not the baby. It’s you. Or me. I don’t know. I just need you to come home. I don’t like this. This feeling that I have." She say.

"I know that we can’t ignore these bad feelings that you get. They always mean something and I’ve learnt to trust them. I’ve promise Ryan that we were going to stay until we get these Rogues to talk to us. I will call Carter and get him to increase patrols around the packhouse and I will get guards posted just at the packhouse until I return." I explained.

"It’s not the same as you being here." She says.

"I know it isn’t. I’m calling Carter right now and guards will be there within the hour. I promise. Now, you need to get some rest. It’s not good for the baby if you aren’t taking care of yourself. You have yourself and the baby to think about now." I say.

"I know. I’ll try and go get some sleep when the guards get here." She says.

"Thank you. I love you." I say.

"I love you more." She says. And I smile before I hang up.

Tessa’s gut feelings were definitely not something to be taken lightly. Even I knew that. But I also made a promise. And now that I know these Rogues attacks are related to Josiah I needed to stay here and find out what is going on. I just couldn’t tell her that because it would really stress her out. She’s still got 12 weeks left to go with this pregnancy. I didn’t want anything to jeopardize it.
