The Secret Obsession of the CEO
Chapter 69: Lost

Chapter 69: Lost

"Out of my way!" Liam shouted thrusting his knife at her.

Rory didn’t move out of his way. She spread her legs to block his way. Without an ounce of fear, she stared at him.

She had the same feeling she got when she found him outside her room that night.

But this time, he appeared to be dangerous. She had a feeling that he would go to any extremes to leave. His eyes were filled with rage and hatred—the expression he never showed to her.

The exposed nerves on his neck and arms twitched as his hand holding the knife reached for her neck.

He was totally out of it and was in a rampaging mode. He didnt care who was standing in front of him.

What made you this mad, love?

Her heart bled for him.

She remembered getting into great trouble after helping him that night. And right now, he was swinging a knife at her to hurt her. But even then, she couldn’t ignore him.

Yes, he is stupid and says stupid stuff. He has hurt her more than any other person in this world. She’s decided time and time again to ignore him and not care for him. He deserves no good feelings from her.

But still... She loves him.

She cannot stop herself from moving forward when it comes to him. She doesn’t have to try hard. She just moves when it comes to him.

She’s stupid that way too.

"Ahhhhh!"

Claire’s screams resounded as Liam grabbed Rory’s collar. Rory grunted as a clump of her hair got caught in his hand along with her collar. She held his hand to free herself but his grip was tight.

"What are you doing!" Dorothy screamed.

"Nooo, please, no..." Claire shouted.

"Stop it!" Frank shouted and he swiftly turned and entered the basement. Rory knew what he will get from there.

Guns!

"Fizzy," she spoke in a soft yet stern voice. "Let go of me."

Liam was not listening. His other hand with the knife made a swift motion towards her neck.

Rory’s heart pounded and her eyes widened as the knife approached her neck. He was pulling her hair so strongly, that she couldn’t bear the pain.

There were no signs of him slowing down.

"Fitzwilliam!" She shouted closing her eyes. Her palms went cold. She thought that would be her last word—the name of the man she loved.

She heard a snapping noise. The pressure she felt on her scalp was released and the pain was gone.

Am I dead?

But after a few seconds, she still could hear her heart pounding. So that means that her heart is beating, still.

She slowly opened her eyes as she felt his trembling hands on her neck. Her eyes met with his. He looked visibly shaken as he took a step backward.

She wiggled her toes as a bunch of fiber-like stuff fell on her foot. She didn’t bother to look what it was. Her eyes were solely on him.

"Fizzy," she took a step forward to hold him but he waved his knife-wielding hand.

"Stay away..." He said staggering like a drunkard. "Don’t come closer."

"Calm down, Fizzy..." She took a careful step closer to him. She saw Frank approaching them with a shotgun in his hand.

"No!" Rory screamed at Frank but he tried to lock the shotgun. Claire ran to him to stop him.

"Let go!" Frank shouted.

In that gap, Liam skipped past Rory and got down the porch. Rory turned to see him taking Frank’s truck.

With no second thoughts, she ran to the passenger side. Liam tried to lock the doors but he was late. She got inside the truck and before she could even close the door, the truck fleed through the driveway.

Dorothy watched the truck leaving the gates and supported herself on the pillar.

"Where is he taking her?" She mumbled.

Frank shirked off Claire and stared at the gates. An SUV entered the gates clouded with dirt.

"Is that Derick?" Claire asked and Frank squinted his eyes.

"It is him!" He said. A glimmer of hope shimmered in his lifeless eyes.

Derick Roberts got down from the car removing his sunglasses. He took an observing glance around the porch, took note of the skid marks on the driveway, and let out a sigh.

He walked to the passenger side door and opened it.

"Welcome home, babe," he kissed the cheek of the woman and helped her down. "Sorry, you’re going to witness drama on your first visit."

The woman had waistlong straight brown hair and hazel eyes. The dress she was wearing suited her perfect hourglass figure.

"Oh, I love drama." She smiled.

"Oh, you sweet summer child..." Derick chuckled. "You’re going to regret ever saying that." He wore his sunglasses.

Julia Arias hooked her arms with Derick’s and both walked to the porch.

Derick scanned the area. He found a lock of red hair on the wooden floor. It appeared to be cut using a knife.

"Now what did he do?" He asked with exasperation ruling his entire being.

He knew Liam and Rory are here. The red hair is the same shade as Rory’s and he saw Frank’s truck leaving the house at high speed. Frank is holding a shotgun and the look on grandma’s face...

Who other than Liam would be responsible for this? That boy... He never grows up, does he?

"It’s Liam... He... Rory...he tried to... Derick, find them," Claire stepped forward. "I’m so scared."

Derick went straight to Dorothy and hugged her. "Grandma!" He took a deep whiff. "You smell like cookies!"

"Get off me, this..." Dorothy playfully hit him. "So you want me to bake you cookies?"

"You’re smart, grandma," Derick kissed her cheek. "But I am sad," he said with a pout. "I have to ask for my Grandma to bake cookies for me when she should have already baked me cookies knowing that I’m visiting..."

"Alright, alright!" Dorothy smiled patting his cheeks. "I am sorry."

"Hello, grandma," Julia went for a hug and a kiss.

"Uncle..!" Derick got the shotgun from Frank’s hand and hugged him.

And just like that, everyone forgot about the little incident that happened on their front porch and welcomed the couple who are going to get married soon into their house.

"How long are you going to drive?" Rory asked after sitting in the car for seemingly more than an hour.

It was noon already and the hot air blew on her face making her tired. He was driving on the trail around the forest in loops and appeared to have no intention of stopping.

His eyes were unfocused and his grip on the steering wheel was so tight that his knuckles have turned white. He looked like he was in deep thoughts and was out of sorts at the same time. She could not figure him out.

She thought that maybe he was crying silently.

The truck came to a halt immediately. The inertia threw Rory forward and a bunch of hair ended up in her mouth. "What the..." She glared at him.

"Get out," he roared not even looking at her and Rory looked at him blankly.

"Phew" she spat out the hair inside her mouth. "Where did this come from," she looked at the lock of hair that curled slightly to tingle her lips once more. She hated it when her hair ends up on her lips and she always cut her hair accordingly.

Liam’s hands started to tremble to see that bunch of hair. He still remembered the feeling when the knife went through her hair.

I... Hurt her!

"Get out!" He shouted. He feared himself. He never thought that he would be capable of doing such a thing but he did.

He actually hurt her... He hurt the only person who loves him!

Go far away, beloved. Go far away from me and be safe!

"No," Rory shrugged. "I’m going where you are going."

"Get far away from me if you don’t want to get killed!" He shouted.

Those eyes... The clarity in them... The care, the determination, the love...

I can’t win against her. But I should keep her away from me. I am a danger to everyone...

"You want me gone? Then push me away," Rory said, and holding the seatbelt, she looked straight ahead.

Liam gritted his teeth. "You think I can’t?" He asked.

How can she still trust me? Even after I hurt her?

"Oh, I know you can," she smirked and turned to look at him. "But you won’t."

Liam’s lips trembled. He had no words to describe the feeling that rose from the bottom of his heart. He is this useless fool who is incapable of love and yet this worm-like him is being loved by a goddess like her.

He remembered the talk he had with his father. Everything he said...

And this is precisely why I don’t deserve her!

His eyes reddened and looked forward with determination. "You think I won’t?" He grumbled.

"I know you-"

Before she finished her sentence, Liam stepped on the gas. He left the dirt road and not minding anything went off the trail.

The truck went through the bumpy terrain, banging on low-hanging branches and Liam did not slow down.

"Ouch...ouch... my back..." Rory shouted but Liam didn’t slow down.

Before they knew it, they were very far from the trail and were in the middle of the forest.

Before they knew it, they were lost.
