Chapter 64: Confusion And Clarity

Liam looked up at the sky not knowing what to do. He decided to call Derick but then he noticed something odd on the tree.

On the bark of the tree, something was fixed stealthily. He looked around to see the entire house having such structures around.

Cameras!

He ran inside the house and he was met at the door by Mrs. Delport.

"I want to check the security tapes around the house from last night." He said looking into her eyes.

The nonchalant smile on Mrs. Delport’s face reduced. "Did Aurora..." She hummed and walked to the basement.

Liam followed her surprised by her accordance. He was more surprised by the security measures in the basement. He was astonished by how the basement was built like some command center of a secret superhero... or a spy.

Mrs. Delport walked to the computer and scrolled through the security footage. Liam looked around the place that appeared to be more well-built than their office security room.

And who has 8k resolution cameras for household security? What are they protecting here? The nuclear code?

"Well, doesn’t he look like you, Billy?" Mrs. Deport said and Liam looked at the big screen.

The video was paused at the right moment and he saw the hooded figure staring right at the camera. The night vision camera had caught his eyes green and with his hands inside his pockets, his mannerisms screamed ’I am Liam’. His face was covered with shadows from the hoodie and the brand of sleepwear that guy was wearing is Liam’s favorite.

"It’s not you?"

Liam said nothing and looked at the screen. Mrs.Delport smirked but he could see that she was worried too. She played the video. They could see the night watchman walking towards that trespasser and he ran away towards the opening in the fence that Liam uses.

That pathway is a little tricky to follow if one is not sure of the way. That person was very sure of the way and another camera caught him passing the fence into his family’s land the same way he came in.

"Hmm... That pathway... Only a few know of it. Were you sleepwalking?" Mrs. Delport asked. "You might think that you never came here but you might have been here... Didn’t you want to watch her subconsciously, Billy?"

"Don’t call me Billy," Liam gritted his teeth.

She was right. He does wonder if he might be dangerous to others at times. Hearing it from another person made his heart race.

"Wasn’t that always the question you ask? What if, I was the one who hurt that woman without~"

"No!" Liam roared at her.

Yes, he was not sure of it.

Seeing the video with 8k resolution confused his mental state affirming the doubts he has. But he didn’t want to believe that.

Because then...

"Whoa, what a temper!" Mrs. Delport rubbed her ear. "Then... Who else would that be? They knew Aurora was staying in that room yesterday..." Mrs. Delport mumbled and she started analyzing that video.

It was then Liam realized it...

I didn’t even know Rory stayed in that room! That person knew Rory was in that room! So... Who was that?

"Find him! I bet this was not the first time he was here. She is terrified of the dark because of him. Find him, dog!" He banged his fist on the table.

Mrs.Delport was not even startled. She looked at him calmly.

"Do it, Billy," she smirked. "You have the means and the answers..." she stood up.

Her face lost the smirk and her eyes turned somber as she patted his shoulder.

"Do not let it repeat. Do not simply watch and do nothing. Do you want your wife have the same ending as your mother?" She pointed at the door.

Liam froze. Once again, the memory of his mother inside the bathtub came to his mind. Flashes of images appeared with his mother’s face replaced with Rory’s.

He screamed in his mind to forget that memory. He does not have the strength to see Rory like that.

His eyes were blinded with darkness as everything around him slowly blurred.

He fainted.

When he opened his eyes, he was confused for a moment about where he was but the picture of a church on a cliff was familiar. He was in Rory’s room.

He turned to his side hearing some clinking noise. Rory was blowing the steam off a bowl of hot soup. She looked at him and for a second her movements paused. She then stirred the spoon inside the bowl roughly.

"You’re awake," she said. Her voice was bland but her eyes were lively. Without even saying a word, he could see the relief in her eyes.

"Here, drink the soup." She held out the bowl.

He looked in the bowl. The tomato soup made ripples along the edges of that white porcelain soup bowl. And he went back to that day.

Blood against the bathtub...

"Cherry," he gripped her wrist. "It will be better if you leave this country. I won’t stop you."

"I knew you will say this, Liam," she was exasperated. She was smiling but at herself. "I know you don’t even want me around you."

"That’s not..." he shook his head. "And I was not the one who~" he stopped.

He wanted to tell her that the one standing outside the window was not him. But he remembered the sleepless nights she had whenever she sees that "dark figure". She believes that she hallucinated the ones in the past. And she believes the one she saw last night was him.

No, she can have her peace. She can continue to think that it was me.

For the first time to his recent memory, he decided to put someone else before him. Well, maybe it is not the first time. But for Rory, he will do that a thousand times over.

"I am going back to LA today, Rory," he said. He needs to make sure all his assets will be safe. They all should belong to his wife and his daughter.

Also, he needs to finalize the divorce.

"I’ll be back tomorrow."

Rory looked at his pale face. She wanted to tell him to have rest for today. He did not look well. She has never seen him fainting before. But today...

His eyes are still not focused. He looks confused. She didn’t think that it would be a good idea that he travels today.

"Why are you telling me where you are going?" she said.

In the end, she let her resentment overrule the care she has for him. She was hurt by his words and actions and she hid her true thoughts from him. She didn’t want to care for him.

Liam nodded. He kissed her forehead. "I know you will take very good care of our daughter, love..." he looked into her eyes.

Love... he says...

Rory gulped. She found this situation odd. She wanted to stop him. But before she could say a word, he left the room. She stared at the door for some time.
