Chapter 60: She Couldn’t Take It Anymore

Liam’s grip on her hand tightened and she averted her eyes. Rather than getting scared of Liam’s reaction, she thought about what Charles said.

"Extort?" she asked Charles. Her eyes reddened. "She wants me to..."

She bowed her head and held back the tears that blurred her vision. It’s not like Theresa is poor. She has enough. She has a house, her husband earns well... not to mention the rent money from my parent’s house. Her children have gotten accepted to good colleges with scholarships. They surely will get a good job once they are out. And still, she wants more?

Does she want to put me in danger by trying to extort money? She knows I have a baby and yet she...

Why?

She had doubts about her aunt’s enthusiasm to have her back. She thought that maybe she wants to see her and give her support.

But no. All she wanted was money. As always...

Why?

Why does no one love me for me? Am I that despicable?

Rory stood up wiping her face. Charles and Ian stood up with her. She smiled at them with a slight nod.

"I think Ellie is asleep. I’ll put her to bed. Excuse me," she got Ellie from Mrs. Delport.

"The nursery is~"

"I know, Mrs. Delport," Rory interjected Mrs. Delport and walked to her room.

Liam followed her closely. Mrs. Delport tried to stop him, but he pushed her aside and slipped inside the room before Rory locked it.

Leaning on the door, he watched as Rory paced to and fro in the room trying to make the baby fall asleep.

He was terribly mad at her.

He knew she was acting weird. He even thought she was dying. But she was planning on leaving the country all along. She was hard-hearted to hide that from him. She thought it is fine to take his daughter away from him to another country and yet she wanted his permission to choose her godfather.

What a...

*Bam*

Liam saw her banging her knee in the corner of the bed but she walked off as if she was not hurt. She then tripped on the rug but balanced herself.

He let out a sigh and got the baby from her. Ellie was already half-asleep. "Sit," he pressed Rory’s shoulder and made her sit on the bed. She looked at him blankly. There was pain and confusion in her eyes. She then stared lifelessly at the floor.

Ellie fell asleep deeply within a minute of him rocking her. He gently placed her on the bed and placed pillows all around her to keep her from rolling off the bed.

He sat beside Rory and she was still staring at the same spot. He’s never seen her this distressed before. She was not even crying and he didn’t know what he should do. He realized that he has never comforted her all his life. But she always knew what to say to him whenever he needs her.

"It’ll be fine," he kissed her forehead and patted her head. He didn’t know what else he could say.

She should be feeling terrible after knowing what her aunt is planning. And after coming to terms with her parents’ death, something else is getting stirred, bringing back all the painful memories of her past. If someone brings back his mother’s suicide now, he would feel like her too.

She hugged herself and burying her head in her knees, started shaking. He turned to see her fingers sinking into her arms. Her fingers were trembling and his heart tore seeing a little scratch on her.

Don’t hurt yourself, Cherry.

He grabbed her wrists and wrapped her arms around him. Making her sit on his lap, he patted her back. She buried her head on his shoulder and started to sob. He didn’t know what to say and was silent. She calmed down after a while.

Without saying anything, she went to the bathroom. Liam stood by the door. She came out after washing her face. She looked like she has reached a decision.

"So..."

"I am going back. I~"

"Hell no!" Liam blocked her from going out. "It’s dangerous."

"Is it?" Rory let out a snort. "So you think that it is safe leaving that tape with Theresa?"

Liam gulped. She is right. Even if Rory does not want to, that woman might do something using Rory’s name. It is safe for none as long as that tape stays with that woman.

"I’ll hire someone to get that tape from her, Cherry," Liam said grabbing her shoulders. Jake would do that job perfectly leaving no trace. "So you don’t have to~"

"Hire someone?" Rory let out a sigh. "Then do that," she nodded. She can get that tape and handle that situation properly. She can ask Uncle Charles for help and it is not hard to scare off aunt Theresa. But if Liam helps, that would be better too.

"It would be of great help to me. We will have a peaceful life there."

"There? You’re still planning on going there?" Liam gritted his teeth and pressed her against the door.

"Shush, Liam," Rory pointed at the baby. Her face relaxed seeing Ellie still asleep."What do you want?"She asked.

"You cannot leave the country," he gripped her arm.

"Why?"

"Because... You can’t! It’s... it’s not safe!"

"Don’t worry. Uncle Charles has clout and he will protect me." Rory said.

"Heh!" Liam smirked. The jealousy he tried to hide reared its ugly head in front of her. "I knew it, Aurora... When I saw him—that gamer—I knew you’d try your best to~" he stopped seeing Rory’s eyes watering. His heart started to jump in his chest cavity.

What was I saying! Why do I do this every time?

"Oh?" Rory pinched his finger and he let go of her arm. "Why don’t you finish what you started to say, Liam? What were you going to say? Since Ian is here, I will seduce..." she gulped as a lump formed in her throat.

"Rory, I..."

"It’s okay, Fitzwilliam. I know you said that out of..." she waved her hand and a tear dripped from her eye. But she looked at him with a smile. "If you don’t want me to leave, say it, Liam. The reason," she asked. "Why do you want the divorce?"

Liam’s eyes widened and he took a step back unconsciously.

"It would be much better if we raise Ellie together. You know, us living in the same house, as a family..." she added. She knew he won’t agree to it. And she had no plans to stay here anymore. She just wanted to raise her daughter where she grew up.

"That’s what I thought," she said seeing him going silent again. "It’s not far, Liam. It’s just eight hours to cross the Atlantic and...You’re rich. You can afford the travels."

Rory opened the door. And she turned at him. She had more to say.

Liam looked into her eyes. Those slightly puffed eyes that were red held a very odd expression.

Animosity!

He stumbled back and fell onto the bed.
