Chapter 50: Suspicious Act

Although some had lost hope that Laura Brown might be alive after all this time, her family strongly believed that she is still alive somewhere and wanted her to be found. The Laura Brown missing case was transferred to the FBI and became a cold case with no leads.

Liam hoped for her to be alive too. But...

Now that her body is found, the missing person’s case will officially become a murder investigation. And with the feds’ involvement, this case will become a big deal. If it reaches the media... and if his involvement in that murder case is revealed...

It was for that reason, that he kept her hidden for this long. He hoped for that woman to appear out of nowhere to exonerate him, but that ship has sailed.

And now, he needs to make sure no photos are leaked of her traveling with him. He didn’t want her to face the consequences of his sin. He also needs to take care of his assets and make sure it all ends up with Rory and his child. His company will face a great loss and before that he has to talk to his uncle Lenny to give him a heads up.

But before that...

Liam looked up to see Rory. She was still showing her back to him. Although he wanted her to believe him, a large part of him didn’t want her to doubt him.

He didn’t spare her that courtesy and he felt like a hypocrite for expecting that from her. But still, the heart wants what it wants.

Rory could only scoff. Liam sleeping with Allison..? And Allison keeping mum about it..?

Heh!

Meeting a vegan tiger would be more plausible.

Liam is not dating Allison. Considering his position and wealth, if such a thing happened, Allison would have let her know. In fact, she wouldn’t have stopped talking about it.

Had she seduced the most-desirable-but-taken hunk and the most popular wife-addict of the University, Allison would have posted it all over social media, with proof.

She made no mention of it even yesterday! What an Idiot! He expects me to believe his lie?

"I said I won’t ask about the divorce, Fitzwilliam," her voice went deep as she got angry. She fisted her shaking hands and stopped herself from turning back. She didn’t want to look at his face. "You don’t have to go this far to push me away."

She stomped away.

"You don’t believe me?"

She heard him shout at her but she didn’t look at him.

Not believe you? I pathetically still believe you! I still think that you didn’t cheat on me! Stupid!

Rory mumbled under her breath and ran into the house. If he wants her gone that badly, she can give him his wish. It’s not like she has nowhere to go.

"Cherry!" Liam shouted. He couldn’t stop chuckling and at the same time, tears rolled down his cheeks.

"Why...?" he mumbled half-laughing and crying. He fell flat on the ground as he lost all his strength. "Aurora... my sweet Cherry pie..." he whispered. His lips trembled and his despaired breath made the blades of the grass flutter. "Why do you trust me this much? Why?"

The dirt stuck to his wet cheeks and not minding that, he stared at the world that looked different from this angle, gently caressing the grass. On that dirty ground that was covered with grass, he looked like a celestial being who lost his way in the mortal realm with his reddened face and misty blue eyes. His sprawled hair appeared as golden threads.

He was washed over with a lot of negative emotions—mainly guilt. He was quick to judge her in the past but with every step of his journey to learn more about her, she is showing him that she is the one who truly loves him.

He laid there for some time just staring.

He saw a lot of green than the blue sky. He wondered if ants would think that their sky is green because of the grass.

In the kitchen...

Frank was holding Ellie and Claire played peek-a-boo with her. Claire laughed along with Ellie as she laughed.

"Baa..." Ellie tried to grab Claire’s nose with her little stubby fingers.

Frank watched Claire and a smile bloomed on his face. He would say anywhere that Claire is the best thing that happened to him. When he was almost depressed, her smile saved him. She gave him a will to live.

"Have you told them?" Claire asked Frank as she ticked Ellie.

"About..." Frank’s face went a little pale as he realized what his wife meant. He sighed. "I don’t have the guts...sorry..."

"Hmm..." Claire wetted her lips. Her smile reduced a bit. "Rory said that Liam is happy to see me," she said.

"Huh?" Frank could not believe it. "Did the sun rise in the west today?"

"No, but Rory had pulled a little stunt. And Liam... well, he is not a child anymore. He can understand nuances. He probably accepts~"

"Who? Him? Maturing? Look at him!" Frank pointed at the window. "He is rolling in the grass like a kid," he scoffed.

Claire looked through the window and Liam was rolling on the grass. She laughed and showed Ellie what her father was doing.

"Honey," Frank rubbed her back gently and kissed her temple. "Just be careful around him, please... " he spoke softly.

Claire nodded biting her lips.

"Sorry for being useless, Claire. You should not be treated-"

"Stop!" Claire placed her hand over his mouth to stop him from speaking. "I am very happy in this house. I am not bearing with anything. So there is no reason for you to feel guilty."

Her pretty brown eyes were watery and her smile was so genuine that Frank melted.

"That’s right!" Claire patted his sturdy chest. "Smile, love..." she stood on her tiptoes and kissed his lips. "I love your smile."

Frank smirked and wrapped his rugged hand around her petite waist and pulled her closer. "The baby," Claire hushed with a blush, but Frank was not listening and leaned in for a deeper kiss.

"Oh, f*ck me dead! Sorry!"

Rory’s loud exclamation startled them and they jumped back. Rory covered her eyes out of instinct. "Coming through...to get my baby...sorry..." she said bowing her head and walked carefully without lifting her head.

This is the first time she is seeing those two being intimate. She should know that those two would be intimate since they are married, but no one likes to see their parents kissing, right?

Well, she doesn’t.

Frank smiled seeing Claire’s face going red. Rory was no different. He wanted to tease Rory some more, but then he got a better idea.

"Rory, Claire will take care of the baby. Come with me to hold the torch for me," he said.

"Eh?" Rory lowered her hand and looked at Frank with her jaws dropped.

He always asks her to hold the torch when he works on something because "she holds it right". But...

It is noon!

Suspicious...

But Claire realized what Frank is trying to do.
