Chapter 47: Nothing Will Change
Liam did not like the fact that she entered using his uncle’s card. That was why he gave her the cold treatment. He thought she might have lost his number but when he called her she knew it was him. So she did not lose his number.
So, why would she use someone else’s card to visit him? He loves his uncle very much but she is his wife! Well, she thinks that they are divorced, but still, he is her friend forever! They have a baby together! She can fight with others but she cannot call him to enter his office?
The first time she visited his office... He worked hard and gained this position for her. Everything he has is hers. How can she not know that?
When he was told that a woman with his uncle’s card by the name Aurora Roberts wants to visit him, he felt a sharp pain in his heart. She is his Aurora.
He wanted to confront her. He let it go the previous day because she was sick but now she is fine. She can answer him.
Rory blinked her eyes looking at him. She couldn’t believe what he said.
"Next time?" she asked raising her brows. "There is going to be next time?"
She caused a commotion there and she even punched his girlfriend. He still wants her to visit him there?
"You won’t visit me there again?" Liam asked. He was astonished and his hand holding the coffee mug lowered.
Rory rested her chin on her knees and started scribbling on the ground with the stick. She has come to terms with her decision of leaving this country. And she has to break it to him.
With how attached he is to Ellie, and Ellie to him, it would be hard.
Thinking of Ellie’s attachment with everyone here, she started to waver on her decision to leave. But she hardened her heart.
Liam saw Rory not even meeting his eyes. She must be thinking that she has no reason to visit him in his office when she is not his wife. He could see that she is hurting and in contemplation. He hated seeing her like that.
"Cherry?"
His pleading voice snapped her out of her thoughts. "You are seriously not mad that I hit your girlfriend?" She asked staring at the ground.
Without realizing she had scribbled her daughter’s name on the ground.
"What girlfriend?" he said immediately.
Rory looked at him. He was astonished. "You’re not dating Allison?" she asked.
"Dating Al...?" His face contorted with disgust. "What made you think that?"
"I..." Rory bowed her head not wanting to say anything to reveal her happiness. She hid her smile by burying her head in her knees.
"I know you liked her when we were in..." she said softly. "And we are divorced. Yesterday... she was very concerned about your finances thinking that I was there to cheat you off your money. So I naturally thought that..."
Liam was lost for words. He got angry. He was living alone for the past year and suffering in loneliness. He spent every waking second of his life wondering how Rory and his baby were doing. And she easily says that he was enjoying his life by dating other women?
Does she even know me?
Yes, he liked Allison back then. But how could she think that he dated that woman when she was pregnant? Just because he asked for divorce doesn’t mean that he will go on to date other women!
He wanted to scream at her but when he looked at the little figure sitting on the ground, hugging her knees, his heart melted. She’s looking very pitiful and fragile lately. He feared this little woman might break apart if he says one wrong word.
It’s not like he explained to her about anything. And the way Allison was presented to her in his office...
Was she even wrong to assume that way? Everyone in the office thinks that Allison is his girlfriend. He never corrected anyone.
He cannot get angry. He spoke words out of anger without thinking much in the past and that’s how they ended up where there are now. He should change that bad habit of his now.
He knelt in front of her. She didn’t even realize that and was scribbling something. Taking a sip of the coffee that already went cold, he took a peek. That coffee was still very tasty. She always makes the best coffee.
Aurelia Brielle
She was scribbling their daughter’s name. He could see that her thoughts are always around that little munchkin. He did get a little jealous, but that munchkin is very adorable and so he can understand Rory.
He said his daughter’s name in his heart. Aurelia Brielle Roberts. Although her name was written on dirt, it was sweet as honey as he pronounced it. Rory named their daughter pretty well.
This was the first time he saw his daughter’s name on written format. When Liah was born, his family would often discuss her name. They were a little disappointed that Rory chose the name herself and didn’t listen to any of their suggestions.
He was not that surprised. She is lovely but at the same time, she is stubborn as a mule. Once decided, she hardly changes her mind. But what is so special about this name?
As he observed, he saw it. And his eyes watered.
He always knew that Aurelia is a play on both of their names, but he never liked the middle name. He thought it was old-fashioned.
Brielle
He bowed his head and a drop of his tear fell on the ground.
Brielle...
His mother’s name is Brigetta and her mother’s name is Isabella. His dear wife has named their daughter after both of their mothers. And he—the fool—the supposed father—didn’t even know why she named their daughter Brielle.
What a despicable dimwit am I?
He knew she named their daughter a day after the birth. And on the day of the birth, he fucked up pretty bad thinking that she didn’t know.
But she knew.
And still, she included his mother’s name.
They never talked about having kids. So the topic of what to name their kids never came up. He, the idiot, was not with her during her pregnancy and he didn’t have the chance to tell her his favorite names for their baby.
He did want to name his daughter after his mother.
And Rory did that without even him talking about it to her. Even when he had hurt her, even when he never supported her, she...
And he is still hurting her. But no more!
He placed the mug on the ground and hugged her legs and buried his head in her knees.
Rory was startled. But seeing his beautiful golden locks sprawled over her knees, she smiled. She missed him lying on her lap.
"What?" she ran her fingers through his hair. He sucked in a deep breath and she wondered what he is doing.
Like a flower blooming, his face suddenly popped out. His hair was messy and was covering his forehead. His eyes were rimmed red and his blue eyes met with hers.
"Rory," he held her hand and pulled it to his lips, and kissed her hand. "Just because we signed some papers doesn’t mean that anything has changed," he said. Rory saw a layer of mist forming on his eyes.
"Nothing will ever change!"
Rory stared at him blankly.
Some papers? Those were divorce papers! How can there be no change?
"Nothing?" she asked. A lump formed in her throat.
"Yes, nothing," he pulled her hands to his mouth once more not minding her protests. "We were friends before and we still are friends. See... nothing has changed... Nothing will change. I will not let that happen. So, don’t worry."
Rory could not understand what he was saying.
"But it has, Liam," she said and got her hands out of her grip.
"No," Liam insisted. He cannot hurt her anymore. He wanted them to be who they once were.
Friends!
They were happy then. He had his greatest support in her. He never hurt her and she was happy with him.
He wanted to go back there. He cannot live without her.
