Chapter 269: Peas In a Pod
"Really?" he asked.
"Yes, really. I know you are happy I had an easy birth. I know I am," she said.
Liam smiled. There still was some sadness clouding his bright eyes, but he looked better than before. "Don’t ever think that I am not happy. I would never want you to suffer," he said looking at the newborn. "He’s beautiful. Only you can do this, Cherry. Only you..."
Rory rubbed his back seeing the smile on his face. "He looks just like you."
"You think so?" Liam looked at the baby once more. He brightened up with a smile. But the smile reduced as he went into deep thought.
Rory sensed movement to her side and her eyes widened with panic. "Fizzy! Ellie’s rolling..."
Liam carefully carried the baby in his arms and ran to the couch, Holsing Ellie, he sat beside her so that she won’t roll down.
Rory smiled seeing him holding the baby so carefully while he gently patted Ellie back to sleep.
He is so good at this. But he is so scarred by his past mistakes.
"You’re a natural, Fizzy... You’re a great father and a very lovely husband..."
Maybe she will have to repeat to him a lot more times for him to get out of the guilt he is feeling. Past cannot be changed. But the pain of the past could be reduced by future actions.
He’s already doing it! It’s sad he still feels it’s not enough.
"Am I?" He raised his brows. "I’m scared, Cherry..." he sighed caressing the baby’s soft hair. "I’m scared to raise a boy..."
Rory was sure that his fear is irrational. He would be the best father anyone can have. But she didn’t want to dismiss his fear. His relationship with his father growing up was not so good. Maybe that is the issue here.
"It’s okay. You will be great. You already are. And what if you think you aren’t? No one knows everything from the get-go. We can learn."
"But what if our children get affected while we are on our learning curve?" Liam asked. He looked genuinely worried.
"It won’t get that bad. We have friends and family who support us. Take our son... If he decides to follow you, he will become an adept businessman. If he gets impressed by Ian, he will become an entertainer... Or he can be a gentleman like Uncle Charles. Or he can follow Derick to be an agent of law, or a business owner like your dad, or a judge like~"
"I get it. I get it..." Liam smiled. "I keep forgetting we have a big family..."
"Yeah, we have a village to raise our kids."
Rory saw the smile reaching his eyes. She was once again glad she married a great man. If he worries this much about raising a child, it only shows the care he has for their family.
"What can we name you?" Liam kissed the little baby. "Archibald Williamson Roberts... Archie or Liam Jr... Yeah, Liam Jr. would be better," he looked at Rory.
Rory showed him the thumbs-up signal. She was glad he respected her grandmother’s wishes and named him after her grandfather.
She was the one who suggested Williamson in case they have a son (he insisted they are having a girl with a tail). He was not so keen on the name "William" when she talked about it but now, he seems to be fine with it.
She was glad. She didn’t want him to think of Lennon when he hears the name, William. His name has William in it and now his son is named after him. William is his name too.
They went home in the evening as both the baby and Rory were fine.
"Fizzy, look," Rory showed the sky.
There were Northern lights lighting up the sky. Although it is common here, she was glad to see it when they bring their son home.
-----
Months passed peacefully. Rory watched their kids grow beautifully.
Liam Jr grew up to look like his father. He was absolutely a carbon copy of Liam with his sunny blonde hair and blue eyes. At times she would see shades of green in them. He had very pretty eyes and sometimes Rory would get lost in his eyes.
To be honest, her son’s eyes were the prettiest among them all. Everyone noticed his eyes.
Ellie started preschool. Liam didn’t want to leave Ellie in school and almost cried.
But Ellie didn’t even look back the moment she saw the other kids. Her teacher adored her because she adapted well to her school and was very inquisitive.
Liam Jr was not very pleased by his sister’s absence for hours. He sulked.
It was nice to watch the little chubby boy running to his sister the moment she returned.
When they grew up, since they were just over a year apart, they went to the same school. Ellie tried to avoid her clingy brother. The more she tried to avoid her brother, the more he stuck to her.
It was funny to watch for a while.
"Our daughter is a stuck-up, isn’t she?" Liam joked one day watching her trying to get her brother off her back.
Rory could only laugh. It made her concerned too as she worried if it would be hard for her daughter to make friends. But she was doing fine. She had friends.
Well, a friend, actually. A boy.
Rory was curious about Henry, this "friend" of her daughter who she found so perfect.
He had dark hair and was like Westley. Ellie was ordering around that boy as if she was Buttercup. That boy did everything she was asking him to do.
Rory was stunned. She knew her daughter has a mind of her own and doesn’t care much about social conventions. But bullying?
She didn’t think that her daughter was a bully, but she couldn’t get more information from Ellie.
She talked to Liam about it and they decided to talk to the teachers and Little Henry. Henry said that he liked doing what she wanted to and that he was never bullied by Ellie.
"Ellie is sweet. I love her," he said.
Rory had to pull Liam away from the boy as Liam wanted to know more about the "love" that boy had for his daughter. Liam only left after a warning. But that boy didn’t look any fazed.
The teachers also assured Rory that Ellie is very kind to everyone, even to the animals in the school. Rory was glad to learn that.
When she was talking about this to Ian, he laughed. "Your daughter is just like you," he said.
Rory could not accept that. She didn’t remember herself to be so sure of herself to the point of being snobby.
And then Ian asked everyone in the village about how Rory was when she was little. And everyone said the same thing.
The apple didn’t fall far from the tree.
Ian laughed.
Rory was a bit embarrassed. Everyone thought that she was bullying Ian to be with her. But no one told her anything.
"How is Elizabeth doing?" Rory asked.
Elizabeth and Ian have been married for a couple of years now. Ian even built a house beside his parent’s house to start his new life.
Elizabeth is sweet and is the perfect woman for Ian. She has the patience to deal with quirkiness of Ian.
Rory could see that Elizabeth’s love for Ian didn’t change for years. And she was pregnant.
"Talk to her. She’s getting scared as the due date closes up," Ian said.
"Will do," Rory gave the thumbs-up signal.
As Rory was walking to Ian’s house, she felt her belly. Their son is five now. They’ve been trying for a baby from when he was three. But she is not getting pregnant anymore. It made her a little sad.
Liam didn’t mind that. He had his hands full with his business and the kids they already have. He’d be in full-on dad mode during the weekends and the kids would have fun with him.
On weekdays though, he would be very busy with his business. Rory knew he was doing well as her investments were paying her well. And she didn’t care much more about how he ran his business.
She had her walks and she loved talking to everyone in the town. She cooked, organized the house, and helped her kids with their homework. She was a housewife and she found that life is very fulfilling.
Occasionally she would check her stocks and investments. By occasionally, she meant during tax season.
She was doing pretty well on her own. Money never was a problem for her and judging by their financial status, she knew it never will be.
Her phone vibrated and she smiled seeing Liam’s text. He told her that he had an important meeting that day and he won’t find time to talk to her. And yet, he sent a text.
[Find a way to ditch the kids this weekend. We are going on a hike]
The text was completed with a kiss emoji.
Right, Liam was a good father, but he never stopped being a good husband to her.
Rory couldn’t help but smile thinking how perfect her life is.
