The Secret Obsession of the CEO -
Chapter 176: Constant Observation
Chapter 176: Constant Observation
Jake sighed. "It was Aurora. She didn’t kill him. What can I do?" he asked.
"You should have ended him. That’s what we asked of you. You knew the endgame, Jake. For years that’s all we planned. He should have died," Mrs. Delport said, her voice laced with frustration.
Their house was always protected with cameras. And after the arrival of the precious granddaughter, they improved the security of the house. Agnes got mesmerized by her granddaughter the moment she laid eyes on her. Although she never showed it to her, she did everything behind the scenes to keep her safe.
She wanted Aurora to be protected 24/7.
She did most of it not to the knowledge of her husband because he wanted their granddaughter to live a normal, happy life to her full enjoyment. Aurora grew up in the countryside and they knew she was outdoorsy and loved to run around and play. Agnes tried to curb that habit of her granddaughter because it was not safe.
But Archibald put a firm step on the ground and didn’t let his wife do as she wished. He let her be free. He loved to see her make new friends. She didn’t mind her talking with the neighbor boys. He enjoyed watching her laugh. But Agnes was taking note of everything, at times like a mad woman.
All because of that monster.
She said that the monster will come for her precious granddaughter even though she is too young to be in his M.O.
They knew the paternal link between Lennon and Liam for a long time, even before Aurora’s arrival. They had done a preliminary investigation on the "suicide" of their neighbor. In their case, they have a tendency to not leave anything as a coincidence or not related to them when it happens around them.
They have various governments and many individual agencies against them. Nothing around them can happen without their knowledge. If they are careless just for an instant, they will become past tense. They are in constant danger.
And so, the suicide of a neighbor might not be a suicide. And their doubts were right. That woman did not kill herself. She was almost getting better and was on the verge of acknowledging that she cannot change her past. The notes of her psychiatrists said as much.
She was willing to have a new beginning with her husband and her son.
But then, he returned. And he killed her. That monster thrives on seeing the pain in other people’s eyes. They always knew that Lennon was the killer. But they didn’t want to meddle in the family affairs of others. Frank believed that Liam was his son. And they found it inappropriate to cause stir in his beliefs. Also, he moved on pretty quickly and so they never thought about it.
But Aurora’s arrival to their home caused a stir in their family. And Agnes whose predictions never go wrong didn’t go wrong in that case either.
That night came... that night when that monster tried to get to her.
They were a little late to confront that monster although they were prepared. But they were not too late. They stopped him from doing worse to her. And without showing his face, he escaped.
Archibald was not informed of that incident that someone breached their granddaughter’s room and climbed on her bed with the intention of assaulting her.
Cameras those days weren’t that clear. All they had was grainy footage of a man entering their premises. But it was not hard to find out who it was with their influence.
Agnes immediately wanted the removal of his head from his neck. But that guy smartly had many connections with many influential people. He knew too many secrets about them and therefore he was as influential as Agnes was.
That caused doubt. They investigated more about him. They learned of his past, and his secret obsession.
Brigetta Roberts was not the only woman he had killed.
It was then they found a way to send Jake to him as a double agent to work for Lennon. They needed an inside man. Jake did a pretty decent job. He needed that adrenalin rush to survive. And he was not scared like other people, and it was easy for him to stay by Lennon’s side and spy on him without causing doubts.
Once they found out about Lennon, they tried to bring him to justice. It was hard for them to move without alerting him. He had spies everywhere who whispered everything to his ears. He was so well-connected that touching him was impossible without causing great damage to the economy. He had connections with major political and economic players and made alliances with them. If he was touched, that would bring down an entire network of influential people and they won’t like that.
The President at that time called Agnes personally to offer protection to that guy. That guy had threatened the President with his secrets in exchange for his protection. He said that his death will release a whole slew of information that would topple the republic as they know it.
That’s how influential he had grown in such a short amount of time. The lawmakers were all his puppets and they had to help him gain profits. That’s how he became a billionaire within five years. He knew the weakness of everyone.
Agnes never wanted to let him live, but after the President’s call, she once again let her duty precede her own feelings. She let that guy live.
Two years after he had entered Aurora’s bedroom, he started visiting her again. He had stopped his killings by then and was completely engrossed with Aurora. Maybe he gained courage or thought that Agnes hadn’t figured him out, he was fearless. He wanted to get to her by some means. But the security measures stopped him from getting inside her room.
And with that, Agnes was pissed. She didn’t want to let him live anymore. And for that, she had to go against the agencies she worked with. And that means she had to do it alone and against enormous manpower.
It was next to impossible.
Even then, they had a chance. Gordon Faraday. He would have made it happen. But Agnes insisted on not contacting him. She hated him. And she devised other plans. And those plans needed a lot of patience.
During those two years, they tried their best to know if Aurora had any memory of that incident. She never let anyone know that she had any recollection of that incident. And since they learned that he used the devil’s breath on her that night he was planning on attacking her, they truly believed that Rory forgot that incident.
But as they say, nothing gets forgotten. That poor girl had been reliving that night in the form of nightmares without their knowledge.
Mrs. Delport did get angry at Aurora’s decision not to open up about her nightmares to her family. But then, can she even be blamed? She never felt loved in her family. She was a kid. How would she know that she is loved if no one was showing it to her?
After noticing Lennon’s obsession with Rory, Agnes came to a very difficult decision to protect Rory from him forever.
Getting Rory married to Liam until Lennon is dead.
They had learned that although he was a psychopathic killer, Lennon was emotionally attached and even proud of Liam to a certain extent. Maybe he wanted that son to be like him as he too was troubled and had psychopathic tendencies.
They knew Liam was staying in Rory’s room right from the start. They had to pretend to catch them because Lennon had visited Aurora that night too.
But Agnes liked Liam for some reason. She was not pretending with him. Her love for him was pure. Or maybe she just showed the love she had bubbling in her heart for her granddaughter to Liam. That could be the case.
It was just a temporary solution to send Rory with Liam. They thought he would not touch what belongs to his son. And he even acted as they believed he would. Jake let them know that Lennon is silent for years after Rory’s marriage to Liam.
Letting Lennon alive for this long was never the plan. He was to be killed three years back. But somehow, they never had a perfect chance.
Jake was tasked to find out the "ledger" Lennon had that contained all the secrets he knew. Jake confirmed the existence of the ledger, but Lennon was very protective of it and so Jake could not get it.
That was another reason Lennon’s life was prolonged. And since Lennon stopped getting close to Aurora, they weren’t very keen on killing him immediately.
Until they were informed that Lennon was trying to interfere in Liam and Rory’s married life. Rory was more available to Derick and Liam started to get interested in another woman while Lennon started frequenting their secure apartment. They even spotted him entering their apartment at odd times when they were sleeping--stealing stuff.
They knew they were losing time.
Jake informed them that this time, Lennon’s acts are a bit curious. It was as if he is planning on getting caught deliberately. Except, a little observation made it clear that he was going to frame Liam.
And they let it happen. Because this was the perfect chance to trap Lennon.
