The Secret Obsession of the CEO
Chapter 170: The Closed Cabinets

Chapter 170: The Closed Cabinets

Rory looked around to see if there is a key left behind. But all she found was a digital lock on the wall beside the table. Even the drawers of the table were locked. She wondered what this single digital lock would open.

She had a fear in her deep heart after the accident she faced in her grandmother’s room. She didn’t want to take a risk.

She sat on the chair behind the table and looked at the lock. And it occurred to her. Considering Lennon’s height, if he was sitting on this chair, that lock would be reachable to his hand.

If so...

She had courage spring up in her heart. But what could the passcode to the lock be? As she guessed with her grandmother, she looked around the room. She didn’t have to think harder to arrive at the conclusion that the passcode must be related to Roisin Walsh.

In this almost empty house that is void of any color, the only color was the picture of Roisin Walsh and the deep red roses. And she had a feeling that Roisin was very important to Lennon.

She wanted to think deeper, but she knew she don’t have the luxury. She decided to try it once and only once and decided not to try anymore. She had a feeling that there might be tripping alarms set. She didn’t want to alert Lennon.

Rory took in a deep breath and punched in Roisin’s date of death hoping that that would be the passcode. With each press, her heartbeat raced, and she got scared. She wanted to back off.

But she could not get the image of Liam out of her head. She needed something to get him out of there immediately. They are not even granting him bail and they have frozen their bank accounts. There is only one sure way to help Liam get bail--to throw a convincing case that Liam is framed. And for that, she needed to prove that Lennon is the killer.

And Jake’s involvement should have some proof too.

Although it is possible that Lennon’s connection to two serial massacres cannot be coincidental, he still might be the victim. Maybe Lennon loved Roisin and that’s why he had her picture in his office...

With a lot of conflicting thoughts ruling her mind, Rory pressed the final number.

*Beep*

She heard a low beep and that was followed by the sound of many locks unlocking.

What the...

Rory stood up and walked to the first cupboard. With a slight pull of the handle, she found that the shutter has opened. She turned to look at the digital lock. That must have been the single keypad that controls all the locks.

She opened the shutter. And that triggered a sensor that turned on the light inside that cabinet and she could get a clear view of what was inside.

She could not believe what she was seeing. Her chest heaved as her breathing got labored and she took a step back. Out of shock, she couldn’t even scream. Bile rose in her stomach, and she retched.

There was a picture of Roisin Walsh in there, pasted to the back wall of the shelf. And there were other things... Her personal belongings and her...

That looked like some body part inside that jar. She was not keen on science, and she couldn’t recognize what it was, but she has seen stuff kept in jars filled with formaldehyde in their science lab.

That pale thing suspending on that murky liquid definitely was a body part that by the looks of it must be something that has to be inside the body.

Rory threw up a little in her mouth. She closed her eyes and covered her mouth as she took several steps backward. She wanted to not be near that cabinet.

It was like a little shrine that the deviated mind of Lennon made for Roisin. But how did he get that body part if he was not involved in her murder?

If that was one cabinet... she looked around. There were at least a dozen cabinets if she did not include the drawers.

She winced as her back pressed on something hard. She heard a soft clicking noise and she slowly turned back.

The shutter had opened as her back pressed on it. She saw an inch gap and the light was turned on. She was scared to open it, but she couldn’t resist it. With a swift swing, she opened the shutter. Inside was the picture of none other than...

Herself!

She exhaled sharply. She couldn’t close her mouth and started to breathe with her mouth. It was as if she was seeing her coffin. That was what she felt like when she saw her picture taped inside the cupboard.

There was no jar on her shelf (Obviously! She does not miss any of her body parts to her knowledge!). But there were some tidbits scattered around. And her eyes ended up on that one peculiar thing.

Her engagement ring!

She ran and grabbed it. The ring that she lost in the woods to that creature is here, in Lennon’s house. She didn’t think that any more proof is needed to prove that Lennon is involved in something nefarious.

Is this what I wanted? Could this be the proof?

Rory wondered. All she has to do is make a distress call to the emergency number and the cops will have to do something, right?

She looked for her burner phone and at that time, she heard a small thump followed by a clattering sound under her feet. The floor was marble, and she wondered where that sound is coming from.

She wanted to ignore it and make a call to the cops not before calling Ian and Derick, but she heard the bang once again.

OMG! Is that Sidney?

Rory kneeled on the floor and placed her ear on the floor to hear. And there were more clattering noises as if glass bottles are getting broken.

Oh! The wine cellar!

She knew rich people liked to have big, decorated rooms to store wine whether they drink wine or not. And she remembered Liam talking about the great wine cellar his uncle is building for his wife who is a lover of wine.

She remembered because she got really jealous of Sidney then. And then a fight started between her and Liam as she pointed to him that he never gifts her anything. Fighting had become a norm for them then.

Rory stood up. And she looked around. She wondered how long it will take for the cops to get here if she calls them now. She whipped out her phone and she first took some pictures after placing her ring back where she found it.

Lennon must be connected to the bodies found in the woods and the death of that creature. This ring is proof of that.

She also took pictures of the shelf belonging to Roisin Walsh just in case. And it was then she noticed that her phone didn’t have any signal.

She was stunned. That can’t be possible. She talked to Ian when she was in the other room. She looked around the room and fear filled her heart. She could feel it. She could feel that something was terribly wrong.

She felt something crawl on her skin; something invisible. Fear brings out the worst feelings after all. She felt like she was getting watched and she froze on the spot.

The crashing sound right under her feet made her return to reality. She could run, but she had to run for almost a mile to get to the road and another mile to get to the neighbor’s house.

She could make it. She wanted to run out. She can find help someway. She did walk to the foyer. She once again checked for her phone signal but there was no signal here either.

But she wondered if it would bid her sometime if she left everything as how she found it. She ran back to the office and tried to lock the doors, but she didn’t know how. It did not lock by itself. She figured if that needs a passcode too.

She knew she was screwed right then.

She heard another sound of breaking glasses, and this time it was very loud and clear. She could not get the pregnant image of Sidney off her mind. She tried to convince herself that the loss of signal in her phone must have been something normal.

She decided to look for Sidney.

She found the door to the basement and stepped in. The scent of wine smacked her senses. She heard the breaking glasses very closely. The door was fixed with the automatic door closer, and it closed behind her. The place became dark and soon the sensors were activated and the lights turned on automatically on the staircase leading down.

"Ah! You came, you murdering son of a b*tch! Come on! Kill me, b@stard! What are you waiting for?"

Sidney’s voice filled with disgust and pain welcomed her. She heard a bottle breaking and the sound of sniffles. Her sneakers made a soft thumping sound on the wooden stairs.

"Sidney, it’s me," Rory decided to clear the atmosphere. It was obvious Sidney was expecting Lennon. "Rory," she added as she did not get any answers.

"...Rory?"

Sidney said after a long time.

"Yes," Rory said and only then she stepped inside the cellar.
