Chapter 89: The Milky Way Pales in Comparison to You

Chapter 89: Chapter 89: The Milky Way Pales in Comparison to You

After the meal, stepping out of the barbecue restaurant, everyone seemed reluctant to part.

Su Wan spoke up, "There’s still the second half, shall we all hang out for a bit more?"

Lin Shuangxin wondered what second half she was talking about since he had no idea there was another plan in store.

Yang Deyou was raising his hand halfway when Fu Wenxue suddenly grabbed it, "Hey Deyou, something came up suddenly and I need a little help from you."

After saying that, Fu Wenxue dragged Yang Deyou away while smiling and waving at everyone, "You guys have fun, enjoy yourselves."

Lingmeng was usually good at reading the room, so what was she up to, "Um, something came up for me too, my cat seems to be flipping around at home, I should go check what’s up, bye folks!"

Couldn’t this foolish apprentice come up with a more reliable excuse?

Lin Shuang smiled as he turned to look at Su Wan.

"What about you, Lin Dasha, got anything going on?"

Su Wan had a look that said, "If you do, I’ll beat you until you don’t."

Lin Shuang spread his hands, "I could be free."

"Fine then, this beauty right here will just have to tough it out and accompany you for a second half?"

The gentle evening breeze was blowing, rustling the soft hair of this beauty.

She tucked those playful strands behind her ear, smiling sweetly at Lin Shuang.

Lin Shuang felt like he’d just seen an alien kidnapping a cow in a UFO!

Shocking!

This Wanwan was acting strange! Way too strange!

He poked her dimple with a finger, "Smiling so tenderly? Don’t scare me, Wanwan."

Su Wan let out a "roar" and bit his finger, mumbling, "I’ve always been gentle!"

Lin Shuang pulled his finger away, slinging his arm over her shoulder—and casually wiped the saliva from his finger onto her shoulder.

"Alright, alright, the gentle Wanwan, what’s on for tonight?"

Su Wan also hooked her arm around his, "Tonight... hmm, I’ll take you somewhere nice, let’s go."

"You’ve got that tone from when we were kids, like you’re about to take me over the wall and up onto the rooftops!"

Little Su Wan often led little Lin Shuang up onto roofs for adventures; they would frequently find "treasures" on the rooftops.

Things like small toys, pictures, even KFC discount coupons ended up on the rooftops and both kids would treasure them as precious finds.

Sometimes they would even find five or ten-cent coins, which could be exchanged for a few pieces of candy or spicy sticks.

Little Su Wan and little Lin Shuang, leaping lightly across the rooftops with their bright, joyful laughter, were like the Straw Hat Pirates embarking on an epic adventure in search of treasure.

Of course, such treasure-hunting endeavors usually ended with both kids being dragged home by their parents.

And the one who typically ended up taking a beating was little Lin Shuang.

Even though it was little Su Wan who led the way!

However, little Lin Shuang was quite loyal, usually not ratting out little Su Wan.

Su Wan was clearly reminiscing about those childhood escapades, her laughter light, "It’s pretty similar, today it’s Sister Wan leading her little brother Shuang on a journey to find a secret base."

"Sister Wan..."

Lin Shuang shook his head with a smile, his hand falling from Su Wan’s shoulder to clasp her hand, "That’s such a nostalgia-laden nickname."

Su Wan clasped his hand in return, leading him to today’s "secret base."

From buddies with their arms slung around each other’s shoulders, they’ve transitioned to friends holding hands.

After all, slinging arms over shoulders isn’t the easiest way to walk, holding hands is much more convenient.

"Speaking of which, I still hold a grudge about that!"

"Give me a break, I might occasionally call you that just to make you happy, okay? Sister Wan?"

"Eh~ Good boy, little brother Shuang."

Lin Shuang was, of course, not too willing to call Su Wan "Sister," since Su Wan was only two or three months older than him.

He was subdued by little Su Wan, who once defeated him in a fight, straddled him, and said triumphantly, "When you can beat me, you won’t have to call me ’Sister’ anymore."

Girls develop much faster than boys at a young age, so Lin Shuang, faced with Su Wan who was a head taller, could only endure it!

Luckily, Lin Shuang’s growth wasn’t slow either, and before long he was about the same height as Su Wan.

He still remembered their initial pact, and so he finally pinned Su Wan down and declared his victory, "I don’t have to call you ’Sister’ anymore, right?"

"Do you hate calling me ’Sister’ that much? I’m so nice to you!"

The two kids had a falling out and stopped talking to each other for three days.

That was their longest record of not contacting each other since childhood.

In the end, it was Su Wan who knocked on his door, "Let’s make up, okay?" "Okay." "You’re not allowed to hit me anymore, okay?" "Mhm."

"So you actually had a second part to that sentence you didn’t say back then: you’re only allowed to hit me!"

The two of them hand in hand, turned several corners and entered an elevator. Lin Shuang continued to complain, "After that, I’ve been enduring your punches and kicks for over a decade!"

Su Wan’s smile was like a blossoming begonia, fervent and long-lasting, "There’s still decades to go."

"Decades?"

She swung her fist at him, "Hmm? Are you not satisfied?"

Lin Shuang laughed, "Just decades? It should be at least a hundred years!"

Su Wan sang, "I really still want to~"

Lin Shuang immediately joined in the singing, "Live another five hundred years~"

As their song ended, the elevator doors happened to open.

The breeze from the rooftop surged in, slowly unveiling a scroll of the starry sky before them.

Su Wan’s secret base that she brought Lin Shuang to was a rooftop terrace of a building several dozen stories high.

Towering high, as if one could pluck the stars with a hand.

They dared not speak loudly, for fear of startling the celestial beings above.

Lin Shuang was afraid of disturbing the Milky Way before him.

The brilliant stars in the sky seemed almost within arm’s reach.

Holding Su Wan’s hand, they stepped out of the elevator, treading quietly as if wading into a sea of stars.

In a soft voice, Su Wan said, "Pretty, isn’t it? This building has just been completed, not too many people know about it yet."

Lin Shuang looked up, feeling as though he was swimming in the grand seascape of stars.

"It’s beautiful. I bet they’re going to fence it off and charge an entrance fee soon."

After taking in the expanse of the starry heavens, he turned his gaze back only to see Su Wan intently watching him.

Her beautiful eyes, reminiscent of his childhood friend, seemed to secretly hold a swath of the Milky Way, sparkling brightly.

When their eyes met, she smiled gently, tilting her head slightly towards him.

In that moment, Lin Shuang felt as if the Milky Way was pouring down upon him with a "whoosh," crashing directly into his heart.

Eyes like vast stars, hair like clouds; earthly beauty pales in comparison.

Teasingly swaying, Su Wan giggled, "Stunned? Has Lin Dasha finally realized I’m also a super beautiful girl?"

Lin Shuang shook his head gently, "I’m not that face-blind."

Su Wan persisted, "Humph, who’s prettier, me or the Milky Way in the sky?"

Lin Shuang attempted to use magic to fight magic, "If Uncle Su and I both fell into a river, who would you save?"

Su Wan lifted her foot and playfully kicked at him, "Answer me!"

Lin Shuang looked at her affectionately, "A sky full of stars doesn’t compare to you."
