The Royal Revenge -
Chapter 89: Knock Knock
Chapter 89: Knock Knock
The royal couple and their servants scoured every nook and cranny of the cave in search of an exit. Elys could feel the tension that Aleksander emanated, and instantly knew the Eastern guards were nearing them.
"Fuck, where is it?" Aleksander cursed, "If we don’t find an exit, we won’t have any choice but to fight, then."
"No," Elys put her foot down, "the Eastern Kingdom swore to no violence. We aren’t going to harm anyone unless they attack us forcefully."
"Then why did you bring a dagger in the first place?" the prince asked, his eyes darting from one part of the wall to another, knocking with his fist to test if it was hollow on the other side.
"The dagger I brought in was just a precaution, but I never intended to use it against them," the princess responded.
Aleksander raised an incredulous brow, and Elys promptly responded by explaining further her answer to the prince’s question.
"Also, just in the case I would need to fight the vampires," Elys replied with all honesty. "I guess it worked out just right for me – well, except that a dagger wasn’t enough to fend off a rampaging vampire who is an expert at sword fighting."
"I’ll take that as a compliment to my skills with the sword," the prince said.
"That wasn’t a compliment at all," Elys flatly denied. "Alright, enough of this banter and lets just focus on finding this non-existent escape route."
The bastard prince bit his tongue. He wanted to retort to Elys, but thought better not to. He was, after all, the one who had been at the wrong side for most of their time together.
Not to mention, for Elys, he and his kind were the reason why her kingdom had fallen.
"Here!"
The princess and prince turned their heads towards Cordelia’s voice. They hadn’t even noticed that the maidservant had waded into the water, and then made her way into the far side where the water met a wide wall made of rock.
"The wall looks thick, but I could definitely hear something from behind," Cordelia said as she floated with minimal effort.
Without giving it a second thought, Elys prepared to jump into the waters and join Cordelia. She took several steps backwards, and before Aleksander could even stop her, Elys ran and dove into the pool.
"Wait!" Aleksander called out a second too late. "Your dress will be a drag in the water!"
The prince clicked his tongue, and then just as she had done, made a dash towards the pool and swam after the princess. Henry who was somewhere on the opposite side of the cave, upon hearing splashes made, turned to see he was the only one left on land.
"Great, first it was a blood bath, this time a pool party," the old man grumbled. "What’s next? Are we going to throw confetti and dance the macarena underwater?"
"Stop complaining Henry, just come over here," Aleksander called out to the attendant.
Henry felt his ears burn with embarrassment. He had forgotten the prince could actually hear from a distance, and not to mention even read his mind when he wanted to.
The old man hurried over to the edge of the pool, dipped a foot in and shivered as the cold waters touched his toe.
"Ugh, this isn’t going to be good for my joints at all," he grumbled one last time before he finally took a dive.
On the other hand, Cordelia was tapping away with a rock, and she swore she could definitely hear the walls echo behind. The princess reached her just in time when she hit a certain spot, and a loud high pitch sound came out from somewhere above them.
"What was that?" Elys asked as her attention swept upwards.
"Let me see," the prince said as he waded over to where Cordelia struck the wall.
He pressed his hands over at the surface, and felt some sort of patterned indentions. Elys swam beside him, and did the same thing as he did. She let out a surprised gasp, and the two of them looked at each other as they realized this must be what they were looking for.
"What is it?" Henry asked as he finally was able to catch up to them.
The old man’s teeth chattered as the cold waters hugged his entire body. His thinning brown hair stuck out in an odd manner, and Cordelia couldn’t help but to laugh.
"What?" Henry asked, a bit irritated that she was laughing at him.
"No, look," Cordelia said as she wiped a hysterical tear from the corner of her eye, "let me help you with that."
She reached out to Henry’s head and gently pat the hair down to his temple, making it look clean and pressed down like he always donned it. It might get tangled later, but at the meantime, she won’t be distracted at how silly it looked.
"There," she said as she was done.
Henry reached over his head, quite startled that the woman had touched his head nonchalantly. What was wrong with her? She was scary and brutally strong, but at the same time Cordelia could be so... motherly and warm.
Out of the blue, the old man slapped his cheeks so hard even Elys and Aleksander turned to see what happened.
"Sorry, its just me," he sheepishly apologized, "what are we doing here anyway? My arthritis isn’t loving the cold waters."
"We are just about to do some experimenting," Aleksander said with a smug smile.
"Cordelia, hand us over the rock, please?" Elys asked.
The maidservant passed the rock to the princess’ open hands, and Elys went on to search the first spot they needed to tap.
"What are you going to do, your highness?" Cordelia asked as she peered over her shoulders to see what exactly the princess was about to do.
The princess traced her hands at what looked like random spots for Henry and Cordelia. What they didn’t know was that Elys and Aleksander had already figured things out while they were busy with Henry’s hair.
The princess stopped at a certain spot, and then with calculated force, sent the rock knocking at the wall.
