Chapter 81: After the Chaos
"Crown Prince..." Teo said in a low drawl, his mouth halfway open. "It wasn’t my fault; I did everything that was asked of me..."
Elys withdrew her hand from Aleksander’s chest. She signaled with her eyes, and the bastard prince stood up and turned his focus on the vampire knight.
Teo turned silent for a second, but then his murmurings turned into full blown screams. Aleksander had tailored for him specific things that would surely scare the shit out of him and keep his head occupied as long as Aleksander wished.
The bastard prince then turned to Elys, his eyes burning with curiosity and awe. What the princess did to him back when they rode the carriage was as real as it got. She was keeping magic within her, and now she has finally shown her capacity with her own volition.
"You didn’t answer my question, Elysianne," Aleksander spoke.
The princess noticed the drastic shift in his voice. He never spoke to her in such a soft manner before – what had changed with him?
Elys rubbed her arm, and then looked away as she said, "I don’t want to talk about it right now."
She turned towards the bloody mess that they had brought with them, several dead people and animals scattered along the throne room’s floor. Fur and feathers were everywhere as well.
"Alright," Aleksander replied to her, "I will leave that for the time being."
"It would be great if you leave it be forever," the princess replied as she walked over to the exit.
Elys was determined to find Cordelia now that the situation has been contained within the throne room. Aleksander followed the princess out.
As his wife stepped out into the palace corridors, a werewolf almost collided with her and she stepped back in shock.
The she-wolf growled at him, to which the prince didn’t pay much heed. He was more interested into getting the truth out of Elys that he didn’t even bother anymore when it came to everyone else aside from Elys.
"The vampire prince’s wife," a she-wolf with silver fur spoke with pure hatred.
’Ah, the one that seems to be in love with the alpha,’ Elys thought to herself, ’Maybe they are mates to begin with? She already hates me without even asking who I am and what I just did for them.’
The princess couldn’t deny the werewolf’s resentment wasn’t just because she was the wife of a vampire. There were other things that were considered as well. For starters, she and Aleksander had been one of the main reasons the Eastern Kingdom right now was in utter chaos.
If only they weren’t tasked and tricked like so...
"I am sorry," the princess lowered her head, her eyes downcast as she walked out of the throne room.
"Go and help inside," Aleksander pointed to the throne room with his thumb, his eyes turning cold at the werewolf, "your alpha has a hole in his chest. Most probably already dead."
The she-wolf’s eyes widened in shock of the information. She had tried to rush over and help Alpha Iyoha back then when he and the other vampire prince fought, but he had growled at her to stay away.
So, in order to honor his pride, the she-wolf left Alpha Iyoha be and decided to run out to help the other werewolves instead. She had thought back then that the ones who stayed behind would be enough help for the alpha.
But now as she entered the throne room, things were different. The small group of trusted werewolves were on the floor unable to move. She walked towards them, slid a finger under their noses, and confirmed with a heavy heart that they were all dead.
Her eyes turned to where the Crown Prince and Alpha Iyoha’s bodies were. True enough to Prince Aleksander’s words, the werewolf alpha was soaking wet in his own blood, a large bleeding hole in his chest gushing more blood.
A huge tear slipped down from the corner of her eyes. After several seconds of crying in silence, the she-wolf raised her head and howled for every other werewolf to know.
Alpha Iyoha was dead.

"You don’t need to apologize, wife," Aleksander said as he walked beside her, mirroring Elys’ pace. "It was my father’s plan to frame us up. We did our part as what was asked, but he chose to have us killed."
Elys and Aleksander were sneaking out into the open now. She still hasn’t found Cordelia nor the shadow of Henry. The Eastern guards that passed them by held something vaguely familiar in color. Elys squinted her eyes and noticed a brightly colored liquid was in their hands.
The princess almost got sidetracked, curios what they had that was tightly contained in a small vial. She turned towards another corner of the palace while Prince Aleksander persisted on following her.
They were careful not to be seen, hiding as they go, as Aleksander was sure to be detained from his earlier atrocities to the Eastern people.
"What happened? I barely remember anything after reading the scroll," he asked her as she had previously dismissed the topic of magic.
Learning from his past experiences when he pushed the princess to speak without honoring her refusal, the prince decided he would address it again later when they were in a safer place.
"You went into a rampage, the crown prince and Teo lead an attack, werewolves rushed to defend the Eastern Kingdom, Prince Dominick and Iyoha died," she explained in a rush.
The princess was getting agitated as she had already looked around the palace but still couldn’t find her maidservant. She hoped Cordelia was fine and had just fought somewhere safe.
They reached a patch of garden that boasted a lot of beautiful flowers in full bloom. Elys paused for a fraction of a second, a soft wind blowing towards her.
The air brought with it a familiar scent to Aleksander he just noticed for the first time - the wounds that bled through her dress’ sleeves.
