Chapter 64: Possessive

Chapter 64: Possessive

Elys watched as the werewolf stood up to his full height. Wolves were particularly big creatures of the night, but werewolves were something else, especially those of the alphas of the pack. This alpha for example, would be around the seven or eight-foot frame.

He clapped his paws slowly as he said, "Your wife, Prince Aleksander, has impeccable manners. She exudes qualities a Luna would have. Fearless and witty, I like her. Would you be keen to lend her to my pack? She will be dearly taken care of."

The prince didn’t take lightly of the alpha’s request. A low growl rose from his throat, his eyes turning a piercing gold as he readied himself to fight them off if they even make one wrong move forward.

"Don’t even think about it," Aleksander suddenly turned possessive, pulling Elys to himself as he proclaimed, "she is mine."

Elys felt her whole face turn red as a tomato.

She couldn’t believe the prince would proclaim her as his in such an intimate manner. He had already shown the jealous and possessive side of him with Teo, but he had always made it sound like he only thought of Elys as his property and not as someone who had their own mind.

She could feel herself go warm down to the back of her neck, and her stomach suddenly felt queasy. It was an unfamiliar feeling. Something she wasn’t able to fully comprehend.

Thankfully, it was too dark to even recognize a difference in the shade of her skin. She was at least relieved to assume that no one had such eye for detail in the dark.

They wouldn’t probably realize she had blushed.

She pushed herself away from the prince and stared at him dumbfounded. He gave her a quick side-eye, and Elys cleared her throat to dispel the sudden awkward feeling she had for the prince.

Aleksander didn’t break his intense eye contact with the werewolf, and Elys turned her attention back to the wolf who obviously was just joking back then.

"Ah, too bad," the werewolf snickered, and then turned serious as he asked further, "But enough of that. What brought you here to the Eastern borders? Depending on your answer, we will decide whether to let you turn back and leave, or immediately shred you into fine mincemeat."

Elys made a move to grab the scrolls inside her satchel, and the other werewolves growled simultaneously.

She paused and looked at the alpha who nodded at her as he said, "Empty your satchel to the ground, and then pick up what you want to show us."

Elys did as she was told, and then held the scrolls that marked King Raxus’ documents for the Eastern Queen, "Now, I think it is your part to explain yourself. Who are you to hinder us from doing official business? Depending on your answer, we will decide whether to obliterate you or not."

The alpha’s body quivered.

At first, Elys thought her eyes might have seen it differently, with the glow of the lantern slowly turning low. Cordelia noticed the lamp’s fading light, and she tapped for Henry to refill the gas. The attendant fumbled for the oilcan and poured in a generous amount.

The werewolf covered his mouth with his large paws. Just as Elys thought he was done with whatever it was he had gone through, the werewolf howled with laughter. His saliva scattered with his boisterous laugh, and his pack joined with him shortly afterwards.

"Ha! Vampires are really funny," the alpha said as he wiped a tear from the corner of his eye.

He straightened his back and then addressed the princess and prince formally, "Very well. I see that you are the real deal. I am Alpha Iyoha, and this is my pack. We serve the Eastern Queen by guarding her kingdom’s borders in exchange for sanctuary. We will accompany you in."

Elys’ face lit up with the werewolf’s words.

"I thought the rumors said you attacked without reason," the prince spoke.

Iyoha snorted, "We aren’t savages as what most of the world thinks werewolves are. Now, kindly surrender all of your weapons before we could proceed to the border gates."

Aleksander stiffened.

"No, we aren’t going to surrender our weapons. How are we so sure that you aren’t going to go against your word? What if you lead us astray and you aren’t really a part of the Eastern Kingdom, nothing but freeloaders?" the prince stood adamant.

The alpha growled at the accusations thrown at him and his pack.

"Alpha Iyoha," Elys moved forward, "we will concede to your request when we officially enter the Eastern Kingdom. We are just as worried for our own safety too. Please, you need to understand that."

"No, we won’t surrender our weapons," Aleksander said as he grabbed Elys by her arms and whispered, "Have you gone crazy?"

The princess stared at Aleksander’s golden eyes and said, "A good negotiation starts with two sides compromising, but still respecting the needs of the other. We must establish ourselves as a friend rather than their foe, husband."

Aleksander choked with Elys’ wisdom.

"She is right," the alpha cut in their conversation, his hearing quite good despite the distance they had from each other, "I understand your point, princess. Very well, you will keep your weapons but once you enter the gates, you will leave everything behind."

The prince wanted to fight the idea, but Elys held his hand tightly and smiled at the alpha, "Come on, lets get inside the carriage."

Aleksander glared at the werewolf but ultimately conceded with Elys. They rode the carriage as the werewolves led them towards the Eastern gates. To their surprise, they were actually just a few meters away from the gates.

A werewolf stood guard at the gates greeted the alpha, saw the carriage and ordered for them to stop.

After thoroughly inspecting everything, the guard nodded and the alpha motioned for everyone to leave their weapons. Cordelia and all the knights obliged, throwing their blades to the ground where the guard could see.

"Step out and we will frisk you," the alpha commanded.

Elys heaved a sigh.

She will have to hide the dagger she slipped very well.
