Chapter 230: Corrupted
Aleksander and Queen Euphemia looked at each other with great intensity. Each of them had fire in their eyes – one that was fueled by hatred for each other.
Elys might have been biased and her judgement of right and wrong clouded by her own goals, but she would never side with the Eastern Kingdom despite Aleksander’s lapses.
Yes, he had gone on a rampage and had accidentally killed people, but it was not entirely his fault. It had been the late King Raxus and his selfish desires for the other kingdom’s land and resources that led to Aleksander’s doom.
"Queen Euphemia, perhaps we can try to talk things over," Elys proposed as she took a step forward, her hand in front of her as if trying to pacify things, "like civilized rulers of a kingdom."
The Eastern Queen’s scowl turned darker as she heard Elys speak.
"You dare to suggest something like that when you and your wonderful husband here massacred a lot of my people and left without even cleaning up your mess?" she said through gritted teeth.
The young queen was seething with anger, her voice thin and high pitched. Elys stopped in her tracks as she felt an ominous aura from the Eastern Queen.
The sensation sent chills running up and down Elys’ spine. The Western Queen bit the insides of her mouth as she steeled herself.
Her enemies should never see her shiver in fear no matter what, that was the lesson her father and their warrior ancestors from the North had taught her from a very young age.
"All I suggest is that we should have been able to save ourselves lives if we had talked it over than to just attack without much thought to the repercussions," Elys said, her eyes serious.
"I would take her on whenever, my queen," Aleksander said with a snarky look in his golden eyes, "Just take a look at her beloved adviser, he has fallen for my magic far too easily. What a weakling, and they even had the audacity to sneak on us."
Elys shook her head and reached out for Aleksander, "Husband, we can spare ourselves bloodshed. I know that I have sided with you back then when they asked you to face trial in the Eastern Kingdom, but that was because at the time we had our own problems too."
"Don’t we have the same problems still?" the vampire king asked her.
It was true that the majority of the Western Kingdom still posed a danger to Elys and Aleksander’s reign, especially with the vampire clergy’s influence over the vampire citizens.
Elys had the support of the humans, but not all of the slaves and servants were warriors like her people – it wasn’t a good ratio at all.
Nevertheless, she and Aleksander had come a long way. They have made strong alliances with the other nobles, while making it clear that those who oppose them were dealt with accordingly.
Elys was not willing to give away the progress that she had already achieved in the Western Kingdom. If she was going to risk things at all, it was so she could give her people a long and secure life.
With the Eastern Kingdom waging a war, that dream would come to a full stop as their forces focus on fighting.
"Listen to me, husband," Elys continued, "we don’t need to be what they want us to be."
The vampire king mulled over his wife’s words. His eyes glanced at the Eastern Queen, and then he turned his back to her as he faced Elys.
"Alright then," Aleksander said to his wife, "I will trust that you know what you are doing, wife?"
Elys smiled at him and said, "Of course, I always know what I am doing, my king."
Aleksander beamed from his wife’s response, and then made a move to return his attention to the Eastern Queen. However, it was a wrong decision for Aleksander to turn his back from the Eastern Queen.
Because Queen Euphemia had a secret.
She wasn’t the ditzy, and slightly quirky queen that she had shown Elys and Aleksander when they had first met. In fact, the Eastern Queen was more sinister than what meets the eye.
Elys immediately sprung to action when she saw what was coming to them. She leaped forward and tackled her husband to the ground, the two of them nearly missing the dark projectile that sped past their heads.
A huge blast erupted as the dark energy that had shot through the air collided with the thick walls of the room. But even with the thick walls, Queen Euphemia’s magic has turned the walls into nothing.
A huge hole was left behind as the Eastern Queen’s attack dissipated upon eating up what it came contact it.
"What the fuck?!" Aleksander gasped as his eyes took measure of what he would have been should Elys been just a second late in reacting.
His arms were wrapped around her by instinct, and Elys suddenly felt queasy down below as her body pressed on to him. She blushed profusely but tried to get back on track just as quickly.
The human queen knew what the situation was, and she wasn’t going to get herself sidetracked just because she was feeling horny from just the slightest of touches.
"The next attack would hit, I assure you of that," Queen Euphemia said.
"How come you are using magic?" Elys shot an incredulous eyebrow at the Eastern Queen, "I had thought that the Eastern Kingdom detests magic and weapons. What happened to that principle of yours?"
The young queen merely smirked at Elys’ question and then replied, "I am the Eastern Kingdom, and I am the rule. Whatever I say will be, no matter what they are. There will be no exception."
Elys watched as the Eastern Queen laughed maniacally. Sir Noa who was frozen beside her was still oblivious to what was happening. The trusted adviser to the queen was in a world of his own, a world created by a vampire.
Whatever it was, at the very least Sir Noa wasn’t screaming in pain.
The young King and Queen of the Western Kingdom rolled over and sized up the opponent that was imminent.
It was quite noticeable that the young Queen of the Eastern Kingdom had started to spread her dark aura all around her.
After a while, Elys started to notice that the room was getting darker and darker, like Queen Euphemia’s magic was eating up everything in its path until there was nothing left but the vast universe.
"What is happening?" Elys worried, "what are all of this?"
"Welcome to the Nether," Queen Euphemia opened her arms wide, as if welcoming them sincerely with a huge hug, "this is the place where you can actually do anything, or just about nothing at all."
"A place for anything or nothing?" Elys and Aleksander unconsciously said at the same time.
Elys and Aleksander tried to run away from Queen Euphemia’s power, but her powers were pulling them inwards, their feet barely achieving the distance that was needed.
Things got out of hand pretty quickly when all of a sudden, the lights were shut off as Queen Euphemia’s magic closed in on them.
From the outside, the dark magic energy that caged all of them, looked like a giant black ball. Wind was rising below them like the softest of breezes.
"What are you?" Elys asked the Eastern Queen.
She had finally been able to perceive the opponent’s figure and adjust herself in the dark and dimly lit ball of self-heated. The young Queen Elysianne suddenly recalled something from when she was small.
Her master had been a woman who lived a few forests down from the Northern alps’ base. Elys had been taught many things to hone her abilities, as well as develop mentality and focus on one thing at a time.
Elys and Aleksander quickly stood side by side, careful not to make any wide openings for the Eastern Queen to exploit and catch. They guarded each other’s back, even though Elys was literally more than just several inches shorter from Aleksander.
"I have no idea what is happening, my queen." Aleksander confessed. "I should have been able to fight her off when I said I would, and yet you pulled me back with your pacifist words."
Elys could only smile just a second, as the Eastern Queen waited for no one to finish what they were doing. She was doing everything she could to hit her target, but Aleksander had reflexes that were really sharp that he could actually run in a flash.
Queen Euphemia placed her palms forward, and she blasted the Western royalties as much as she could. One attack almost caught them, nicking the tip of Elys’ hair as she dodged the blast’s trajectory.
Elys was confused why the Eastern Queen had magic in the first place, but when she saw the miasma that was spreading around Euphemia, that was when she realized ---
Euphemia Zemyatur was actually corrupted.
