Chapter 222: Whether You Like It Or Not

Sir Wiriam’s plans were greatly disrupted by the recent problems within the kingdom’s borders. The wild monsters and animals who were making trouble along the eastern side had kept him busy he couldn’t even return to his manor.

His wife and child were left all alone, but what he really ticked him off was the fact he had a hard time focusing on his own goals. With the attacks directed to the borders today, he could only think of one thing – to protect the kingdom he lived in.

"RAH!"

The newly appointed Knight Commander sliced through the monster that bared its fangs at him. He threw his double curved blades behind him, and another monster screeched at the weapon’s impact.

A loud crack echoed behind Wiriam, and another screech aside from the now dead monster erupted.

"Gah! What the fuck, Wiriam?" a voice came from behind him.

The Farvar’s eldest son turned around to see one of his childhood friends, Baron Rits. The vampire had long been a knight, but had been picked by Wiriam as one of his men under the King Aleksander.

Baron Rits had his arms raised into a V and his body in a half squat behind a tree. Wiriam’s weapon was buried deep into the tree trunk behind Baron Rits.

"Pass me my blade, Rits," Wiriam motioned with a flick of his hand. "And stay focused."

"Wiriam, I am as focused as I could ever be," the Baron replied with sarcasm oozing from his mouth, "you could see it with your own eyes – hah!"

Putting his palm to his left, Baron Rits released a blast of wind and a swarm of tiny creatures with sharp claws about to chew the hell out of him were blown away into pieces.

"See?" he said as he raised his shoulders mockingly.

Wiriam swung his other blade and killed another monster coming at him and then rolled his eyes at his dear friend.

"What I see is an idiot who still hadn’t passed me what I asked him for," Sir Wiriam said.

The other knights under him were all busy with their own battles, and the Knight Commander was getting a sarcastic knight in his vicinity. The things that he had to live with were sometimes either plain frustrating or annoying – there was no in between.

"Fine, fine – hup!" Baron Rits huffed as he pulled the blade out of the tree trunk behind him. "Here you go!"

With a swift throw, the weapon flew back to Sir Wiriam in lightning speed, his blade passing over the gigantic monster that was sprawled in front of Baron Rits.

"Thanks," he said and then turned back to the incoming swarm of monsters.

Several have already slipped past him and into the other men closer to the borders, but he trusted the others could absolutely eradicate those that could actually slip past him and Baron Rits.

Hopefully.

Glancing behind him, the noble vampire noted that there were no signs of struggle for the others near the border.

He had already sent a tiny scroll report back to the main palace. And although he trusted Aleksander to do the right thing, he still had his doubts so he had to make sure that he and his men did their best to stay alive.

Blasts and destruction littered the forests and even the trail leading to the eastern border of the vampire kingdom. There were a few more hours before the sun were going to beat down on them like hell on earth, and it was bound to be a tough day ahead.

"Wiriam, look out!"

The Knight Commander ducked without even thinking, his body reacting to its environment. To his surprise – or perhaps not since he quickly understood Rits yelling out to him – a monster had actually been behind him.

"Fuck you and the inconveniences you bring with," Wiriam cursed.

Putting his blades on top of the other, the Knight Commander created a scissor-like form with his weapon and trapped the giant head of the monster between its opening.

"Say a very good bye to your life," he huffed.

"GRAAARRRGGHH!!!" the monster screamed.

With a swift movement, Sir Wiriam swung the blades on opposite directions, recreating the motion of a pair of scissors cutting through. Like a thin paper, the monster’s head was decapitated in mere seconds.

The monster’s decapitated head flew high in the air before it ultimately caved in to the pull of gravity. It landed the ground with a loud thud, black gooey blood scattering all over.

"Hyuuu~"

Baron Rits whistled and leaping over dead bodies on the forest floor, the knight reached Wiriam and stood beside his childhood friend.

"I will never tire of that trick of yours, Wiriam," Baron Rits said, "I should get a fancy weapon like yours though, it’s tiring to just raise my hands – whoops – and then just like that, plain old boring blast of wind."

Three wooly monsters with bloody red eyes jumped at the two knights, but Baron Rits was quick to blow them to pieces with his wind magic that could cut through air itself.

A line of trees was accidentally cut down as well with his wind, and one by one, trees of at least thirty feet tall fell down. Birds that made their homes at the canopies were forced to flee, and a flurry of wings fluttered as feathers and leaves rained down on Sir Wiriam and Baron Rits.

"You don’t need a weapon with that destructive magic of yours," Wiriam noted.

"But it would be much cooler if I did," Baron Rits clapped his hands together, "I will get some when we return to the capital."

Wiriam turned towards his friend and flicked the knight’s forehead.

"Ow! What was that for?" he asked the Knight Commander. "You didn’t have to do that."

"You are only allowed to return to the capital once we get these attacks controlled," Wiriam scowled at his fellow knight.

Baron Rits merely shrugged and then said, "Alright, alright. I will get to work now. Sometimes I think you work us like pigs."

"Pigs don’t actually work if you are trying to use a metaphor, Rits," Wiriam shook his head in frustration, "you probably meant a horse or some other domesticated working animal."

"Hah!" Rits barked a laugh, "whatever floats your butt, Wiriam."

"It’s ’boat’ you moron," the Knight Commander massaged his temples.

"RAAAARRGGHHH!!!"

Another swarm of animals were about to attack the two and Wiriam immediately turned serious, a strong aura emanating from him. The wild animals were stricken with fear and veered towards the Baron, thinking he was a much easier enemy.

To their dismay, Baron Rits was as destructive as a hurricane of sharp glasses could be.

The vampire leaped forward and greeted the incoming swarm of beasts. Their mouths were foaming with venomous saliva, and one drop could actually kill hundreds of men in mere minutes.

Baron Rits pushed his hands forward and twisting them quickly into a circle, he created a swirling motion which in turn brought with it ribbons of wind that sliced through the wild beasts.

Like minced meat, the animals disappeared from sight and a bloody rain showered down on Baron Rits’ face and body.

"HA HA HA HA!" he laughed like a maniac, "God, I love working like a pig!"

"Like a horse!" Wiriam corrected him.

"Fine, fine, Sir Wiriam Gilver Farvar, first born son of Count Farvar, soon to be king once that bastard gets dethroned," Baron Rits bowed his whole body into a ninety degree angle.

"Shut up, Rits," Wiriam bared his fangs at his childhood friend, "this is not the time to be thinking about that. The kingdom is in danger!"

Baron Rits stood straight and folded his arms together. The flippant mask that he wore suddenly was washed away as his eyes squinted at his Knight Commander and dear friend.

"You know what majority of the kingdom wants you to do, Wiriam," Baron Rits said, "you shouldn’t disappoint them just because you are focused into serving the kingdom first than yourself."

Wiriam swung his twin blades behind him and pierced two monsters who were about to attack him.

A darker aura emanated from the young Knight Commander and spoke to his childhood friend with his sharp fangs bared at him, "I do not want the crown for my own personal gain, Rits! I have a better plan than just that."

The Baron unfolded his arms and then put them to his waist as he raised a brow in incredulity.

"Not your own personal gain?" the Baron couldn’t believe his ears, "The vampire hierarchy doesn’t exist if we never thought of our own personal gain, Wiriam!"

Baron Rits raised his arm and opened his palm and flicked his hand with a finger pointing upwards, and a huge wall suddenly erupted from the ground. A lone monster was caught in the trap and was shredded by Baron’s powers.

"You are going to be king soon, Wiriam," Baron Rits said with determination, "whether you like it or not."
