Chapter 214: What Is His Weakness?

Chapter 214: What Is His Weakness?

"I see that you have had a change of heart, Lady Beatrice," Aleksander said to the noble lady. "I don’t want to barge into your mind, so might you explain to me why this is so?"

With that single sentence, Aleksander was able to convey what he wanted the noble vampire to understand. He was not playing around when he asked her why she had a change of heart. The vampire king was already too suspicious to begin with.

"I will know if you are lying, just to remind you," Aleksander said as he leaned on one foot, his demeanor teasing yet threatening at the same time. "I won’t care if you are my wife’s lady in waiting, I will have you beheaded the moment I know you are hiding something from us."

Lady Beatrice bowed down her head and responded immediately, "I only come to be of assistance to the throne, your majesty. I swear on my life and on my family’s name that I bring no harm to you and Queen Elysianne."

Aleksander let out a slight scoff at Lady Beatrice’s response to his threat.

"You better be speaking the truth, Lady Beatrice," the vampire king said smugly. "It is a heavy promise to put your family’s name on the line."

"I know what I am saying, King Aleksander," the noble vampire said as she lifted her chin indignantly, "I have my pride, and that of my family’s pride too."

Before Aleksander could even speak another word, he heard the familiar footsteps of his wife. The moment he turned around, his silver eyes had met Elys’ serious ruby eyes.

Her stare was not that of the usual. She looked as if she was utterly pissed off to see Aleksander. But that would be inevitable, considering they lived in the same building, as well as share the same floor for their respective chambers.

"Why are you here, your majesty, King Aleksander?" Elys asked, not even trying to mask the irritation in her voice.

"Why, isn’t it quite obvious, my dear wife? I live here, naturally everyone should expect me to be around most of the time after the activities of the main palace," Aleksander answered her.

Elys’ eyes veered towards Lady Beatrice, and the noble vampire curtsied to the queen as she greeted her, "Greetings, your majesty, Queen Elysianne."

"Come on now, Lady Beatrice, I need to speak with you. Do not waste your time talking to people you do not need to interact with," Elys said as she beckoned her lady in waiting.

The noble lady bowed down her head as she walked past the king. When she reached Elys’ side, she also noted that she wasn’t entirely alone with the queen.

"Lady Beatrice," Lady Azalea greeted her with a simple raising of her chin.

"Lady Azalea," the noble vampire quickly returned the gesture.

The two of them stood side by side behind Elys. The tension that was shared between them were quite strong despite the silence that soon followed. But it didn’t even compare to the tension that the King and Queen shared at the moment.

"I see that you have earned another loyal lady in waiting, my queen," Aleksander said.

He wanted to be the bigger person and he did try to speak with Elys calmly. However, his queen did not seem to want to return the same energy to him. Instead, she looked him in the eye and then snubbed him, all the while rolling her eyes at him.

"!"

Aleksander was both stupefied and miffed at the same time. How could she be so childish with him? She was supposed to be a Queen!

"Elys, you must have heard from Marquis Lanz already," he said as his wife walked out on him.

The young queen stopped in her tracks and then tilted her head to the side.

"Lady Azalea, please relay to the King that I don’t want to meet him in our shared chambers tonight, as I will be very busy," Elys said without looking back.

The noble lady turned to bow her head and relayed the obvious to the vampire king.

"Your majesty, the Queen Elysianne has denied your request to meet in your shared chambers tonight," Lady Azalea paraphrased Elys’ message. "She said she will be very busy."

As soon as Lady Azalea was done with relaying her message to Aleksander, Elys immediately continued on walking up the stairs. Her two ladies in waiting quickly followed her, making sure not to miss a beat in their steps as the young queen climbed towards the next level.

Aleksander’s hands turned to angry fists beside him.

"You can’t continue doing this, Elysianne," Aleksander thundered behind her. "You will never find any spell nor potion that could dispel my magic on Cordelia. There is no other way... you must go through me to get to her."

Elys bit her lower lip as she ascended to the second level of the Rose Palace.

How could he have known she was trying to find a way to get rid of his magic over Cordelia? Perhaps the knights guarding the Royal Archives had ratted her out to him.

As she reached the topmost level where their chambers were located, Elys made a sharp turn towards Aleksander’s chambers.

"Your majesty?" Lady Azalea and Beatrice spoke in unison.

The two were confused what made the young queen make her way towards the vampire king’s chambers when she deliberately declined his request for her to meet him in their shared chambers.

"Keep quiet, the two of you," Elys snapped at them.

She continued onwards until she arrived at the very doors of Aleksander’s chambers. She had hoped to have met Henry on the way, but it seemed like the old man was not around.

Elys turned to the knights that were guarding the king’s chambers.

"Which room does his majesty’s human attendant reside?" Elys asked one of them.

The knight looked down to meet Elys’ gaze and then promptly replied, "Down the corridor, your majesty, Queen Elysianne. The wooden door before turning to the left."

Elys nodded her head and gave the knight a quick pat of approval.

"Very well, thank you for your cooperation," she said, "Come on now, ladies."

The young queen made quick strides towards Henry’s room, and as soon as she arrived at the front of his wooden door, she knocked hard on it.

"Henry, open up," Elys called out to the old attendant.

Elys heard a bit of clamber inside the room and after several seconds, the doorknob clicked and the door opened. Henry’s brows were raised at the surprise visit he had with Elys.

The old man peeked over her shoulder and noted she had two of her ladies in waiting with her, but Cordelia wasn’t around. It was quite weird. He knew Cordelia was around the Rose Palace after they had fulfilled their missions the last time.

Why wasn’t she with the queen?

"Queen Elysianne," Henry greeted Elys as he started to step out of his room.

But before the old man could even open his door wide enough for him to pass through, Elys pushed the door to let herself in instead. Her ladies in waiting were shocked at her bold move to enter a man’s room other than the King’s and they both tried to reach out to her.

"Your majesty, you must not!" Lady Azalea called out to her.

"Queen Elysianne, please come out of the room," Lady Beatrice pleaded.

Elys gave them a quick side glance and she responded with a finger pressed to her closed lips. She grabbed the doorknob and closed Henry’s room, and the two ladies in waiting were left outside dumbfounded as the door’s lock clicked.

Inside the room, Henry was tongue tied. Why did his master’s wife forcibly enter his room all of a sudden? This wasn’t something he could get himself killed, right?

Hopefully it doesn’t.

"Your majesty, what are you doing?" Henry asked. "His majesty would not be pleased with this. Please, I will escort you out."

The old man hurried over to grab the doorknob and open it for Elys to get out immediately, but she blocked him from the door instead.

"Queen Elysianne, you can’t do this, please!" Henry pleaded, "Let us hurry out before his majesty arrives anytime now in his chambers."

Elys shook her head. With a swift movement, the former Northern Warrior Princess grabbed the handle of the doorknob, and broke it so that Henry was trapped inside his room with her.

"What did you do that for?!" the old man panicked. "Knights, help!"

"Don’t waste your breath, Henry," Elys said, "This will only take a while, and I can just open the door myself if I want to."

"What would take a while?" the attendant asked.

He was out for words at the display of strength Elys had shown. He knew she was crazy strong in combat, but he never thought he could also break a wooden door’s handle with one hand.

Elys hovered over the plump man and with a serious face asked, "Tell me what is Aleksander’s weakness."
