Chapter 162: About the Explosion and Fire

Elys and Aleksander didn’t wait anymore for a carriage. They went directly to the stables, picked out the best pair of horses, and went off towards the capital. Sir Wiriam and his knights followed them closely, and both parties were at edge thinking anyone could be the reason for the fire.

It was already around six in the morning, but the sun was steadily rising and shining down on the vampires.

Aside from Elys who was unbothered by the warm early morning sun, Aleksander and the others were heavily clad in dark cloaks and masks that covered their entire faces.

Wiriam came forward, his pace just enough so that he was beside the vampire king but still behind Aleksander in regards to his rank. The young king glanced at Sir Wiriam, and his eyes squinted at the man.

"How have you been lately, Sir Wiriam?" Aleksander asked him.

"Doing my best to manage the knights and the palace’s safety, your majesty," Sir Wiriam responded, "I have tightened the security of the Rose Palace where your chambers are."

"Hmm... most commendable, I must say," Aleksander praised him.

"It is but my job to protect you and the queen, your majesty."

Elys’ horse neighed loudly, and Aleksander quickly glanced at his wife’s side. Their eyes locked in for a moment, and he knew Elys was closely listening with their conversation. She had a look in her face that he could only surmise as wariness.

"I hope that the incident with Lady Catalina would not be repeated again," Elys joined their conversation. "I don’t want to be forced into enforcing death with such people, but if it may be necessary, then I shall have it done right away."

Sir Wiriam pressed his hand towards his heart and said, "It will never happen on my watch, your majesty."

Elys grunted, and let Aleksander and Sir Wiriam continue with their conversation.

"You must have something to tell us since you came close to our horses," Aleksander said to the noble vampire.

"Ah, now that you say so, I do have some information that you might be interested in," Sir Wiriam said. "I just received information that the explosion was done by a suspicious person in a moss green cloak. The fire has since spread from the capital center."

Aleksander and Elys’ face turned grim.

Sir Noa had visited them just recently too. What if this was a retaliation from the Eastern Kingdom as Aleksander had denied their request for him to travel and stand trial in their courts?

The possibility was extremely high.

"Have the fire been controlled already? At the very least our people must have already tried to contain it," the young king asked as he assumed the kingdom’s men were quick to respond to the fire.

This time around, Elys noted that Sir Wiriam’s face had turned dark.

"Why do you look as if it is the world’s end?" Elys asked the vampire.

Sir Wiriam shook his head and said, "No, it is not that, Queen Elysianne. It is just that my informant had said that no matter what they used, be it normal water or magic infused water, the fire could not be put out."

"It could not what?!" Elys exclaimed. "That is impossible! At the very least magic could have contained the fire at that."

With Sir Wiriam’s information, Elys’ determination made her drive her horse to run faster. She sped forward as fast as the horse could take her, leaving Aleksander and the rest of the knights behind to eat her dust.

"Wife! You must wait!" Aleksander called out, and then he pushed his horse to follow Elys as well.

Sir Wiriam continued with his pace, but signaled his men behind to hasten accordingly. He waved his hand forward, and the rest of the knights sped past him, save for two knights that stayed behind to talk with the Farvar’s eldest son.

"Haven’t I instructed all of the knights to closely follow his and her majesty?" he raised a brow at the two who lagged behind him. "Why do you choose to disobey my orders, Sir Damiano and Baron Ruiz?"

"We are terribly sorry, Sir Wiriam," Sir Damiano spoke from behind him. "We are only following orders."

Wiriam stopped in his tracks, his horse skidding into a sudden halt. Dust and dirt scattered around, tiny particle rising midair as the wind from the horse’s stopping lifted them higher.

"What did you just say?" Wiriam asked the knight, "Repeat what you said, soldier!"

Sir Damiano’s eyes flinched for a second, but he kept his composure as he slowly glanced at Baron Ruiz who was two meters away from him and his horse.

"Baron Ruiz? It seems like the two of you have something you need to tell me," the Farvar’s eldest son said.

Wiriam calmly spoke to them, but his voice was authoritative, disregarding the fact that one of the knights he was talking to had a higher rank than him outside knighthood.

"We have received orders to keep close to you, Sir Wiriam," Sir Damiano said.

"To keep you safe," Baron Ruiz added without skipping a beat.

"From who?" Wiriam asked.

"From the king and queen, of course," Baron Ruiz continued.

"No, I don’t mean them. What I asked was who ordered you to do such a thing?" Wiriam said, a mixture of confusion and dread rising to his throat. "Who are pulling your strings?"

Another explosion erupted on another part of the kingdom, and Sir Wiriam turned at the sound’s direction on reflex. He quickly glanced to where the king and queen had rushed off to, and the vampire clicked his tongue.

"Tch! What the hell is happening right now?" he muttered under his voice.

Sir Damian and Baron Ruiz stared at Wiriam, waiting for his attention to return to them. When his eyes did turn back to the two knights, Sir Wiriam coldly asked, "Who are you taking orders from?"

Baron Ruiz opened his mouth to respond, "From the vampire clergy, Priest Mora."
