Chapter 148: Don’t Anger My Queen
Pride has taken over the Western Queen. She knew at the back of her head that as a human being with morals, she should have fully acknowledged the West’s faults. Elys should not have brushed it off as something as casual as saying she did not care even if she knew.
But Queen Elysianne was full of pride.
She bit her lip and cast her eyes aside, her foolish self battling with her mind and heart. She knew she should have seen eye to eye with the Eastern adviser, but Elys’ words did not coincide with the truth.
Or at least she twisted it to the point it did not sound like truth anymore.
Sir Noa’s face turned blank. He was weighing his next options, knowing that anytime the Western King could read his mind and get ahead of him before his mouth could even utter a single word.
’Guess I will just have to tell everything, no holds barred,’ Sir Noa thought.
"Sir Noa, is it true what my husband had said? You wanted him to go to trial with you?" Elys asked, her brows raised in incredulity.
She and Aleksander’s reputation amongst the Western Kingdom was not great as of the moment. The balance between peace and an internal war was not too far ahead, and is hanging by a very thin thread.
One wrong move from them and the scales would tip to a drawback to their plans which were still beginning to sow itself within the Western Kingdom.
Sir Noa nodded his head slowly as he replied, "As you have mentioned, your majesty, yes. Queen Euphemia demands for the Western King, including that of his Queen, to stand trial within the Eastern Kingdom for his crimes against our people."
"Preposterous! I shall not bow down and concede to such a dumb demand," Aleksander held his nose high in the air, "It was not in my own volition that those things happened."
"As true as it might be, but your majesty had still slain innocent people, and injured many others along the process," Sir Noa insisted, "The Eastern Kingdom may not be as aggressive as the rest of the continent’s kingdoms, but we still honor what is right and wrong, and justice must always prevail."
"You seek to condemn those that have done you wrong, then you have arrived too late," Aleksander glared at him. "My father and his queen have died even before we returned from the East, and my half brother was slain right before my eyes by the Alpha Iyoha."
"Then if you believe that you have done nothing wrong, you should not be afraid to stand trial, your majesty, King Aleksander Ardorlean," Sir Noa said. "It is only right for truth to prevail, and we can know only once we investigate further into the matter along your cooperation."
Elys have thought that the Queen Euphemia have let the events of their political visit slide since she had fought her husband off to stop his uncontrollable rampage. It had only been a side effect of his father’s spell. Surely, they understood?
"I am afraid that we cannot, by the means you have suggested, accommodate such a demand, Sir Noa," Elys spoke as calmly as she could.
She still had too many things to do in the Western Kingdom. The plan to free her people was slowly progressing as Aleksander had explained to her. He was slowly putting his plans to work.
With their absence should both of them travel the Eastern Kingdom to stand trial for that invasion staged by Prince Dominick, then the Western Kingdom was set to fall into the hands of those that want the throne for themselves.
"But I must insist, your majesties," Sir Noa’s voice raised, his patience wearing thin with the two.
"Then can you suggest other means we could settle this little misunderstanding without the two of us travelling to the Eastern Kingdom?" Elys tried to bargain, "Surely the Queen Euphemia had given instructions in the case that we could not present ourselves."
Sir Noa shook his head and said, "You are making my life difficult, Queen Elysianne. I have thought that you at the very least would cooperate since, indeed, you have helped in a sense to stop further damage when your husband picked up his sword to attack us."
"We cannot abandon our kingdom to travel far and possibly be imprisoned, Sir Noa!" Elys finally yelled at him. "How are we to know if your justice would be fair and judge us accordingly? You might as well cage us like what you did with the rest of the vampires that you captured then."
"As she had said, Sir Noa," Aleksander stood up from his seat, towering over the Eastern adviser as he bared his fangs, "You cannot demand us to leave our kingdom behind. Not now that we have just recently taken the throne."
Sir Noa’s nose crinkled at Aleksander and Elys’ adamance.
They truly weren’t backing down from the argument, and he could feel a darkness looming over each of them as if they were thinking of killing him there.
He must tread the waters carefully. A storm was about to brew within the throne room, and he was all alone with only his limited non magical skills to defend himself if worse turned to worst.
"Then since you regard this matter as of lesser importance, you leave me no choice but to report to my queen regarding your uncooperative response," Sir Noa said with a defeated tone.
He started to turn around and leave the throne room, but Aleksander had other plans. The Western King stepped down from his throne, and in a blink of an eye, stopped Sir Noa as he blocked his way.
"Not so fast," Aleksander said.
"Don’t hold me as your hostage, your majesty," Sir Noa warned him. "I may have not brought with me weapons, nor did I bring the whole pack to protect or save me, but the Eastern Kingdom will know if I don’t return in time. Trust me, you won’t want to anger my queen."
