Chapter 144: Meeting

Cordelia and Henry returned shortly afterwards. Elys glanced at the chamber doors, remembering that it was Sir Wiriam’s men who were stationed outside.

She made precautions and added some protective spells inside her walls as they waited for Henry and Cordelia, carefully placing them accordingly to stop anyone who might try to listen in on them.

She also made sure to include all other walls of the chamber, including the ceiling and the windows. Not a single spot was made available for eavesdropping vampires.

"I never thought you could also do such," Aleksander commented.

"Aside from attack spells, I can do this much and mana manipulation with those I touch," Elys explained.

Aleksander’s eyes twinkled with the additional knowledge he learned about his wife, "My respect for you grows each second I spend time in your presence."

"Don’t bother with the flattery, my king," Elys scoffed. "I am only doing what is necessary for our survival and success."

"I would really want to have you back to the shared bedchamber, my queen," Aleksander’s voice turned serious, "Your value to the success of this agreement has proven to be of great importance."

Elys only rolled her eyes in response, clicking her tongue with disapproval, "My ladies in waiting won’t feel safe with your presence hounding on them, your majesty. I rather use them to my advantage without you giving them heart attacks."

Aleksander frowned and mumbled under his breath, "I seriously need to get that damn High Priestess to denounce that prophesy!"

After a few moments when they finished with the protection spells, the knights announced Henry and Cordelia’s arrival. They entered the queen’s chambers as the doors opened for them, and the two loyal servants sat down in front of their queen and king.

Right off the bat, Elys and Aleksander decided to start their meeting.

"Here are the lists of people that Lady Catalina had interacted the past day, your majesty," Cordelia said as she handed over a piece of paper that she had hurriedly prepared after she took a shower. "I also included, the time, place, and duration they interacted there too."

"Very well, Cordelia. Good job," Elys nodded as she took the paper.

The young queen opened it and began reading. She raised a brow, the arch slowly rising with each name she saw in the list.

"This is quite detailed," Elys said as her eyes glanced for a second at Cordelia, "I am certainly impressed. I didn’t think you’d be able to identify the people she’d interact with as well. I guess I might have underestimated your skills, Cordelia."

"I do my job diligently, your majesty. Anything for a Whitecaster, even to the point of laying down my life, I am not afraid to do so and will perform as demanded," Cordelia proudly proclaimed.

"That won’t be necessary," Elys grimaced, "you dying, I mean. We already have so much blood and death in our hands since the North’s invasion. I can’t afford to lose you as well. You should remind yourself that I need you, Cordelia."

The old woman was touched by the queen’s words. She squared her shoulders and cast her eyes downwards as she made a quick bow to Elysianne.

"I will forever serve you, my queen," Cordelia said. "You can count on me never to betray you."

"I know, Cordelia," Elys smiled, "And I thank you for your unwavering loyalty."

Elys turned to Henry and raised a brow at him. She nudged at Aleksander and asked, "Aren’t you going to speak of something? Perhaps explain what you two have been up to lately? Plans and results?"

Aleksander and Henry cleared their throats simultaneously.

"Ah, yes, right," the young king said as he scratched his cheeks sheepishly. "Henry, do me the honor and explain to my wife what mission I gave you. Be thorough with your explanation regarding this too," he said as he slipped the bluish vial on the table.

Henry took the vial in his hand and began to explain like he was in a lecture session.

"Very well," he started, "this vial, contains a very potent potion I got from a master potion maker through connections. It is not lethal to the body, but over time, the effects of the potion will lead our opponent’s defenseless, as it slowly grows into their system and eats their mana."

Elys raised a brow at the last part, "Eat their mana? What does that potion even contain?"

Henry smirked, quite proud of his work and how he was able to procure such a dangerous item.

"The man I have asked to make this runs a shop at the black market," Henry explained. "He had infused a lot of herbs and monster essence in here that could take away a vampire’s powers over the course of the moon’s cycle.

"A month’s worth of wait? Isn’t that too long? My people and the rest of the humans in this kingdom has suffered enough," Elys aired her concern.

Aleksander held her hand and squeezed it saying, "Our mission needs to be planned accordingly. I know I have said I wanted to destroy the kingdom, but I also realized such drastic measures could lead to several problems that might get out of hand."

"So do you mean to say that we must take this slowly but surely?" Elys crossed her legs and arms.

"Remember my queen," Aleksander’s brows furrowed with seriousness, "Vampire nobilities aren’t going to be easy to sway. We must tread this treacherous path with great caution. It is best that we slowly poison them so by the time we go all out, we have a fighting chance to get rid of them as fast as we could."

Elys was a bit skeptical.

"Does this really work? I hope we are not wasting our time and money over hoaxes," she said.

"Trust me, your majesty," Henry said as he held his arm to his chest as if to salute like a soldier, "The man I got this potion from is already well known all throughout the black market. His skills with potions will never let us down."
