Chapter 143: Extremely Annoying
Henry and Cordelia’s return had been full of surprises and revelations. Aleksander seemed to be amused about something, whispering into Henry’s ears and making his old attendant blush madly it almost looked like he was choking.
Elys disregarded her husband and his loyal attendant, and sat down with Cordelia as she reported the results of her mission.
"So, how did it go?" Elys asked.
She poured Cordelia a cup of tea, but noticed it had already gone cold from the time she had it served and met with her probable ladies in waiting.
"On second thought, Cordelia, Henry," Elys said as she put the tea kettle down, "Go get yourselves a hot shower and change into dry clothes first. We can’t afford to have both of you sick."
"It is not a problem, your majesty. I already lost precious time when I was delayed of my return," Cordelia insisted. "I can rest after I report to you my findings."
Elys’ eyes turned serious and a scary air surrounded her. Cordelia noted how dark her face had turned with her insistence, and the old woman clenched her teeth in apprehension.
"You will do as I told you, Cordelia," Elys spoke. "Now go before I lose my temper."
Elysianne raised her hand and pointed a finger for Cordelia to get out of her chambers. She turned to Aleksander and Henry next, raised a brow at them, and Henry quickly understood he was expected to do the same as well.
"Go, Henry," Aleksander pushed his attendant out, "Don’t make my queen mad."
"I am not mad," Elys scowled.
Aleksander would have contested what she said, but decided it wasn’t worth the argument. He did not mind at all if Henry did go out as per her instructions. The young king had already got what he sent Henry out to fetch.
Cordelia sheepishly bowed down to Elys and excused herself out of her chambers. Henry soon followed, and the queen’s chambers closed with a loud thud.
Aleksander sat next to Elys and asked, "Why the angry face, my queen?"
Elysianne grunted and then said, "Cordelia pushes herself too much for my own sake. She must value her own health too!"
Aleksander’s face softened with his wife’s concern for her maidservant. He swung his arm behind her and patted her head fondly. Elys suddenly turned rigid with Aleksander’s pat.
She had told him time and time again that he did not need to show her unnecessary affection. But even as she had turned his affections away every single time, Aleksander still persisted.
The human queen was dumbfounded. Was her husband testing her patience was he really doing it to make her feel better?
"Stop scowling like that," Aleksander said as he took his hand away and swung his arm back in front of him, "although you always look beautiful no matter what, I’d prefer you smiling."
Elys scoffed and replied, "Words drenched in honey won’t win me, dear husband. I’d rather you stick to our agreement."
"Would it not hurt to try and be friendly, my queen? We are in this mission to dominate together, we might as well learn to be each other’s comfort in times like these," Aleksander proposed.
Elys could only roll her eyes in response.
"I don’t need such things, husband," she said. "Feelings will only get in our way."
This time around, Aleksander was the one to give her a snob look.
"Well funny how you get to say something like that when it was you who got emotional with Cordelia a while ago," he teased.
Elys crossed her arms and then glanced at the windows. The storm had slowly come to a soft drizzle, the skies slowly turning clear as the storm clouds dispersed their tears all over the kingdom.
"What are you looking at? How unfair of you to disregard me when you know you are at the wrong, my queen," Aleksander teased yet again, pouting his lips but peering over to see his wife’s reaction.
"I don’t care what you think, Aleksander," Elys said without looking at him, "just focus on what I asked you so I could help you as well."
The young king heaved a heavy sigh. He made it quite obvious by even adding a bit of extra sounds to it. It was supposed to annoy her, but Elys truly seemed not to have minded him.
Aleksander scooted closer by her side. He fished out the vial he had asked Henry to procure, and he waved it in front of Elys.
His wife immediately got curious, and her eyes turned to him fully aware that he wanted her attention.
"What is that supposed to be?" she asked him.
"A little something to help you and me with our plans," Aleksander smiled cunningly.
His fangs glinted in the moonlight, and Elys raised a brow at his remark. He was being vague with his answer, and she assumes its because he wanted her to ask further.
She really was not fond of playing a game of dilly-dallying, but Aleksander seemed to be in the mood, and she wasn’t.
Elys glowered at the young king and Aleksander’s face turned concerned, "What? You don’t like what I did for the success of our plans?"
His wife shook her head and said, "No, it doesn’t matter. I just find you extremely annoying, that is all."
Aleksander couldn’t help but to laugh in delight, his mouth forming into a lop-sided grin afterwards.
"I really hate you," Elys commented as she glared at his smiling face.
"It seems you are becoming more like me before, my queen," he commented as he put the vial in her hands. "A bit impatient, sometimes too aggressive as well."
Elys’ mouth twitched, "You think I am becoming like you? Dear lord, you would probably want to gouge your eyes and rupture your eardrums if I would be half as incorrigible as you were back then."
Aleksander’s laughter filled the air as he heard her complain about him.
"But I am improving, am I not?" he asked her.
Elys went silent, but Aleksander knew what her response would be.
Her silence gave her away.
