Chapter 139: A Single Man’s Treasure
Cordelia should be happy that she didn’t have to watch over Henry like a very rotund but comatose baby. But the emotion that bubbled inside her were something else entirely, and she didn’t want to be seen as something... kind of weak and unsure of herself.
Henry slowly opened his eyes, and when realization dawned on him, the man almost jumped up inside the tiny little cave that Cordelia found.
The king’s personal attendant and queen’s maidservant locked eyes for a brief moment. When his brain was finally able to catch up, Henry’s memories came flashing by his eyes.
It was not a pretty sight at all.
"Urgh! What the hell, where are we?!" Henry panicked.
The storm was being relentless outside, and the two of them were soaking wet. The old man turned to Cordelia, and then removed his mask to get a better view and a bit of a breather too.
"Alright, where the hell are we?" the old man asked Cordelia as she seemed to be utterly speechless.
There was a long and dreadful silence between them that just did not sit right with Henry. He could still recall the pain he felt in his crotch as Cordelia tried to restrain him using underhanded methods.
"Cordelia?" Henry called out once again.
The old woman snapped out the second Henry shoved himself close and clicked his fingers in front of her.
"Get off me!" Cordelia pushed Henry backwards, making the old man gasp as he slammed towards the crevice wall. "Oh fuck, sorry, sorry. My bad!"
"Woman! You have got to stop trying to kill me!" the king’s attendant sarcastically added. "For goodness’ sake, could you just be gentle?"
Cordelia realized her mistake and quickly apologized.
"Sorry," she sheepishly said once again.
The old man heaved a heavy sigh. He was oddly tired despite not doing anything. He peered out into the open, and he could only see so little with the heavy downpour.
"I took a shortcut, we almost got crushed by a lightning struck tree, and now we are here as I lost the horse since it couldn’t fit in the tiny cave," Cordelia explained.
Henry turned his attention back at the old woman.
"What are you planning now? It seems like traveling in this harsh weather is nearly impossible without a means of fast transport," Henry asked. "Not to mention the road has actually been destroyed halfway."
"It got destroyed already?" Cordelia’s surprised voice rose.
She took a peek and poked her head out of the crevice. True enough, the road had eroded down the cliffs so they were actually stuck in a remote place with no help since it’s really dangerous with the overflowing rivers below.
"Goddammit!" the old woman cursed. "Now we are stuck, great!"
"Well, I have you to thank for that," Henry sarcastically added. "I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for you."
Cordelia glared at Henry and the man pressed his lips together in a tight line. The rage in the maidservant’s eyes were intense – she was at the wrong, but her pride was getting in the way for her to accept it.
"We will probably have to wait it out a few hours or so," Cordelia replied. "But hopefully it stops soon!"
"I couldn’t agree more," Henry seconded her idea.

The heavy pitter patter of the rain ended up raging on for more than three hours already. Henry and Cordelia were all silent, probably having internal monologues with themselves.
The two of them were trying to convince themselves that what happened when Cordelia pinned Henry to the wall was just nothing but a part of a job.
Trying to break the ice cold waters between them, the maidservant thought of a better idea to do while they waited for the storm to pass.
Cordelia fished out something from her pocket and then threw it at Henry. The old man caught it right on time, and noted it was actually the item he got from Rui.
"If the King Aleksander allows, would you tell me why you got that one using real money and the royal emblem?" she asked him.
Henry stared at the liquid inside the tiny vial he had in his hands.
"It is a poison that would potentially be fatal for his majesty’s enemies," Henry replied to Cordelia’s inquiry.
"And the man I saw you transact with?" she pressed on further.
"A vampire well known in the underground and black market for his skills in making potions and whatnots," the man added. "All of them are illegal of course."
"Huh," Cordelia muttered.
Henry’s old eyes gazed at Cordelia and said, "Alright, my turn."
The old woman braced herself. She was expecting him to ask her of her business too, and she prayed Henry would just let the attack go and not discuss it any further.
"Why are you also in this part of the kingdom?" Henry asked.
The old woman heaved a silent sigh of relief.
At least Henry’s question was answerable and wasn’t awkward.
"I was tailing the activities of Lady Catalina," Cordelia explained. "She interacted with one shady vampire, which led me to this town. I was about to return when I saw you and that other person."
Henry’s face turned sour for a moment, and Cordelia dreaded he was undoubtedly going to ask her why she had to attack him like that.
The old woman couldn’t be more correct with her worries.
"That attack of yours was really dirty," Henry said, his face half buried with his arms hugging his legs as he sat and crouched inside the cramped space.
Cordelia instantly switched to her warrior senses, and then addressed Henry’s comment with faked confidence.
"I needed to make sure the one that hit my head wasn’t going to move around much," Cordelia spoke with a stoic face. "Your lucky that was all you got."
Henry scoffed and noted the arrogance that was in Cordelia’s words.
How can she be so cruel?
