Chapter 137: What Do You Plan?
"Your majesty, may I have a chance to air out my thoughts without the possibility of getting executed for impudence?" Lady Beatrice finally spoke.
The Western Queen turned her eyes towards the lady with the blood red lipstick. Lady Beatrice - she belonged to the Thyrston family who were believed to have been somewhat cursed. For centuries on out, not a single male heir was born to their family.
Details about the said curse had been kept shush by the family matriarch through generations, but whispers were shared within the high society that it was all because of a vengeful witch.
Misha Thyrston, the first family head, was a vampire that could woo any woman with just a single look. His attractiveness caused a lot of competition from every woman that laid their eyes on him that eventually he had caught the attention of a witch.
Eventually, Misha Thyrston married a noble woman for status. Others might have given up with the news, but the witch did not.
Overcame by jealousy and rage that the man couldn’t be hers, it was believed that the witch cursed Misha Thyrston to never have a male heir so as to avoid any other man that might look like him and break hundreds of hearts like Misha did.
Of course, the family immediately denied such claims as soon as it spread like wildfire. Moreover, witches were unheard of wandering far from the center of the continent where no soul has ever set foot and left alive.
When one does see a lone witch, it was most likely someone that had been banished from their coven.
Up to this day, Lady Beatrice was the eldest daughter of thirteen sisters and a dozen more female cousins from extended family. The males who married into the family were made to take the Thyrston name and not the other way around.
Elys had chosen the lady to be one of her ladies in waiting due to the fact that she wanted to know more on the rumors about her family. Also, she was a social butterfly herself, and Lady Beatrice and her beauty was one of the fairest in the vampire high society.
She needed to secure such a lady on her side.
"Your majesty? Queen Elysianne?"
Elys’ thoughts were pulled back into reality and her eyes veered towards the Lady Thyrston who called out to her.
"Forgive me, I spaced out for a bit there," Elysianne apologized. "Yes, what was it you were saying, Lady Beatrice?"
The lady pursed her red lips and contemplated on the words she was about to say.
"I asked if her majesty would allow me to speak with the assurance that her majesty would not be offended and have my head on the stake," Lady Beatrice repeated her question.
Elysianne laughed at the question.
"Oh dear, that is quite the demand you want from me, Lady Beatrice," Elys giggled. "But I will do my best. Just choose your words wisely, because I think the King is eavesdropping on us."
The queen leaned in forward and whispered, "He has a tendency to overreact and has temperance issues, so better not say something that would insult the two of us, or just me at that. He is hellbent on protecting me despite my powers."
Elys let out a short laugh, and then leaned back towards the backrest of the couch she was sitting at. She observed the ladies and the shocked expressions on their faces – or the lack thereof for a few, namely Lady Azalea, Lady Beatrice, and Baroness Ekaterina.
Several of the ladies gasped in astonishment, their heads turning towards the doors as they dreaded the cursed bastard.
"H-H-He is h-here?" Lady Penelope chewed on her nails.
Lady Azalea heaved a concerned, and partly exasperated, sigh. She reached out for Lady Penelope’s hands and lowered them away from her mouth.
"Stop that, Penny," Lady Azalea whispered.
Lady Penelope gasped and released a bit of an electric shock towards Lady Azalea. The Igniss’ eldest daughter flinched, and her friend immediately apologized.
"O-O-h n-no! I’m s-s-s-sorry, Zale!" she panicked.
"No, it’s fine. I’m fine," Lady Azalea muttered as she put a burnt finger inside the cold glass of blood. She took her finger out after a while, sucking the blood off of her finger.
"Knights, do not let his majesty in," Elys instructed the men stationed outside her chambers. "I am tired of telling him he does not need to worry about me at all!"
There was a sort of clamor outside, and Elys could not help but to sigh at the way Aleksander thought she could not tell he was there. The young queen may have not the same powers as Aleksander who could read minds, but she had other tricks up her sleeve.
Elys might have not opened up about it, but she could tell the difference of mana each person possessed. Especially those that she had been around for an extended period of time.
Aleksander had been weakened back at the Eastern Kingdom, and Elys had made sure to replenish his mana before they would lose the fight with Teo.
On the other hand, Aleksander stumbled from trying to listen in on the ladies’ speaking to each other. It was rather comical, but the knights were professional and the men weren’t much concerned whether the king was discovered at all.
Aleksander was the one that made them swear to be silent while he listened in on the conversation inside.
’Damn it! How did she even know?’ was Aleksander’s thoughts the moment Elys mentioned he might be outside.
Elysianne’s chosen ladies in waiting were astonished.
Some had their jaws dropped, while others remained stoic but covered half of their faces to avoid criticism should their shock was to be known.
"Wife, are you sure?" Aleksander called out from outside her room.
Elys’ eyes rolled in exasperation.
"Well, of course I am sure, husband," Elys replied to the young king, "You should go to your own chambers and concentrate on your own duties this day, your majesty, King Aleksander."
The ladies waited for the king to reply.
Within thirty seconds, the doors burst open and Aleksander marched forward. His expression was that of annoyance, but also a bit of amusement that his presence had been rejected twice already in less than an hour’s interval.
Not to mention it was his own wife that rejected him.
Elys heaved a sigh.
"And I specifically said for you not to be let in," the Western Queen grumbled.
Just as Elys looked out behind Aleksander, she could also see a servant bringing over the second round of fresh blood for her ladies in waiting. By the time the servant arrived at Elys’ chamber, his eyes were obviously confused and scared at the same time.
Confused because he didn’t think the King Aleksander himself would be present. Scared because Aleksander’s curse was still widespread even to commoners and slaves.
"Your majesties, ladies, I have brought fresh blood just as instructed a while ago," the servant spoke.
He tried his best not to shake in the presence of so many dangerous people, to which he was not the best at.
His knees would get weak, and he dreaded walking towards the center table. Elys beckoned him to hand over the glasses one by one, and although there was a bit of spills here and there, the queen was not in the mood to punish someone.
The servant trudged past the King, and then towards the center where other vampire ladies were gathered around the Queen. The servant quickly walked out, and waited by the sides together with the knights in the case of any other request from the queen herself.
"Aleksander, get out," Elys crossed her arms. "I already told you, haven’t I?"
Her husband’s face twisted, and this time around, all the ladies of the room felt a sudden cold energy from the King.
"Fine," Aleksander groaned. "But you ladies might as well behave, or else become the next Lady Catalina. Or worse... don’t make me do it."
The whole room turned dead quiet as Aleksander exited the room once more.
"Close the doors," Elys instructed, "And you might as well remember not to let anyone else come in. Even the King himself unless I say so."
As the doors closed with a loud thud, Elys slumped for a second.
She rubbed her forehead in a circular motion. She could not believe how Aleksander can be so stubborn at all!
Although, to say the least, the former bastard prince would listen to Elys’ words when push comes to pull.
"Alright, sorry about that," Elys fake laughed. She turned to the eldest daughter of the Igniss family, "Continue Lady Beatrice, I am all ears now. King Aleksander has gone now."
Lady Beatrice cleared her throat and straightened her back. She held Elys’ gaze and spoke out her concerns, no holds barred.
"What do you really plan, your majesty? I know that King Aleksander has ulterior motives, but you, what do you really plan for the kingdom, Queen Elysianne?" she asked.
