Chapter 135: Wandering King

Chapter 135: Wandering King

Aleksander wandered around the palace as he listened in on the servant’s gossips. He was nervous for Elys to take on vampire nobilities, but there was also a part of him that knew she could handle herself well.

Despite knowing that, he still couldn’t disregard the fact that the ladies in her room were dangerous in their own game.

’Why are we still working here? We might as well die with the bastard prince rising to the throne!’ a man’s angry voice echoed through the walls.

’Shut it, Greg! You will most definitely die if you continue to blabber like that,’ a woman countered him.

’I wonder if the human queen could make the lives of slaves better?’ someone thought from another side of the palace.

’Would King Aleksander really be better for the kingdom? Wasn’t he cursed or something?’ another aired her worries to a fellow servant.

"Your majesty," someone greeted the young king.

"!"

Aleksander’s listening in on the rambles of the castle was put to a halt as a servant greeted and bowed his head down as Aleksander passed him by.

’What is this bastard doing here? Why haven’t the other nobles and the vampire clergy tried to get rid of him?’ the servant thought.

The past Aleksander would have already snapped the servant’s neck, but Elys’ influence was getting the better of him.

’I should not lash out immediately. I should not lash out immediately,’ he repeated in his head. ’I am the King of the Western Kingdom now, and I will not destroy this chance by showing my wrath out of nowhere.’

"My king, you are wet," the servant spoke as his eyes noticed Aleksander’s hair and clothes were a bit damp.

"Ah, yes," the young king said.

He didn’t even mind back then, but now that the servant pointed it out, Aleksander did realize he was a bit wet from the rain.

He didn’t know what came into his head back then, but as soon as the knocks came by Elys’ door and her constant nagging for him to get out, Aleksander finally took the window for an exit.

’What was I thinking back then?’ he asked himself. ’Through a window? A king?’

Aleksander heaved a heavy sigh. He could not stress how stupid he felt at the moment now that he was thinking about it. He could have just walked out of the Queen’s bedchambers as the ladies arrived as if it was nothing.

He was the king after all. He and his queen should be able to meet without minding the people that were around them.

Even his father and his wife back then were said to be a couple that displayed too much of their affection for each other. To Aleskander, all of those were nothing but lies and acting.

He knew his father wasn’t really the kind that could love a woman so passionately.

Noticing that his mind was starting to stray into the past, Aleksander shook his head and turned to the servant. The young man was petrified for a second as Aleksander’s cold eyes looked straight at him.

He held his breath, dreading whatever it was that the ’cursed’ bastard prince, now king, was going to say to him.

The young king turned to the servant and said, "Have someone draw me a bath. It doesn’t need to be warm."

The servant’s eyes widened with surprise and his brows shot up, "In this weather, your majesty? Maybe you meant a warm bath? I will notify the others..."

"Don’t question me and my preferences, boy," Aleksander scowled. "Just do as you are told."

The servant stiffened with Aleksander’s reaction to his question, and the young king cursed silently for losing his cool over something so trivial in the eyes of Elys yet again.

He really needed to take some anger management lessons, as what his queen would have commented.

Humans weren’t particularly in his list of people to take revenge on, so that in itself was part of the reason why he needed to restrain his anger. Elys wouldn’t be too happy if she saw him now too.

She had always been adamant on him controlling himself.

"As you wish, your majesty, King Aleksander," the servant bowed down and immediately scurried away towards the King’s chambers to do as he was asked of.

Aleksander continued to wander for a solid ten minutes, and somehow, he bumped into another servant.

The young king waved for the servant to continue whatever it was he was doing.

He continued to walk the halls of the dark palace, the only illumination were the dim lamps and the occasional chandeliers. There were far lesser servants now compared to the last time he had been in the palace nearly two decades ago.

In his deep thoughts, the young king eventually arrived at the east side of the palace. It was the part of the palace where Elys was at the moment.

An idea slid into Aleksander’s mind, and without second guessing, the young king made up his mind that he would listen in on the conversation between his wife and her ladies in waiting.

Aleksander strode back towards the Queen’s chambers, trying to sneak in on the latest bit on how the situation his wife and the other noble women of the vampire high society was going.

He had left just barely less than thirty minutes, but Aleksander didn’t want to risk Elys’ safety. Two of Wiriam’s men were stationed outside Elys’ chamber, but he didn’t exactly trust them as well.

The only person Aleksander could really trust was Henry, and he wasn’t really that useful in terms of physical strength.

The thunders continued to roar in the skies. Lightning would flash every other five minutes or so, and the storm did not seem to give the impression of stopping anytime soon.

"!"

The knights stationed out of Elys’ room were surprised to see the nearly dried, but still too damp, Aleksander approach the Queen’s chambers.

"Your majesty!" one of them spoke.

Aleksander raised a finger to his mouth and shushed the knights.
