Chapter 105: Blinding Light

The prince stared intently at the High Priestess’ eyes and then asked, "Are you going to accept me as your new king or do you really want me to fulfill those false prophecies of that damned queen?"

Before the High Priestess could even respond to Aleksander, somebody from the crowd stole everybody’s attention.

"Get out of here you cursed bastard!" a noble suddenly shouted.

Prince Aleksander’s eyes instantly shifted from his cold silvers to a burning golden color. He turned his attention to the man that screamed, his eyes glaring at the audacity.

Elys took that as her cue, and right there and then, unsheathed the sword that she had strapped around her waist.

Quite coincidentally, the man that yelled at Aleksander was just an arm’s length away from her, and the princess only had to take a step to the side to slice the vampire’s head off without mercy.

Blood sprayed all over her dress and face, all the while the family whom she had killed a member of snarled at her with great vehemence. Their fangs were bared and their sharp nails ready to gouge her eyes out in retaliation.

"The vampire book of laws states that anybody who insults the rightful king of this kingdom shall be sentenced to death immediately," Elys turned to the rest of the vampires and then towards the High Priestess, "am I not right, High Priestess Naya?"

The High Priestess remained silent, not wanting to respond to Elys who wasn’t even a vampire.

Instead, one of the priests came in front of the princess and hissed at her, "That is correct, but it isn’t decided that Prince Aleksander is the rightful heir for the crown, as he isn’t the Crown Prince. The clergy and the rest of the nobles must accept him before that happens."

"There is nothing stated in the vampire book of laws pertaining the late king’s son must be accepted by the clergy and the nobilities before he is coronated," Elys countered the priest, her eyes glaring back at him as she gripped the hilt of her sword tightly, ready to kill.

The priest turned beet red, his ears fuming with anger at the princess. Elys knew the priest was prejudiced as much as the rest of the nobilities were against Aleksander.

She had pored over every section of the vampire book of laws to know that the priest was obviously making things up. They truly believed the prophesies that Queen Zephyrince spread against the prince.

It was clear as day now, more than ever.

"You are nothing but a slave," the priest tried to counter her by attacking the princess personally, "you don’t know anything about the vampire kingdom and its laws. Don’t lecture me with what I write myself."

Elys was just about to retort to the priest, when suddenly another priest from the clergy called out to the knights that were stationed around the room, "Knights! Seize this woman and the cursed prince! They have crashed the coronation of our next king far too long."

Aleksander and Elys saw the knights immediately take action, marching towards the front of the room where the prince and princess were.

The presider, in his bid to get away from trouble, scurried as far as he could away from the prince. Wiriam made the same precautions, playing it safe as he distanced himself from a possible bloodbath.

He might have let his parents use him as a pawn to get to the crown, but he wasn’t too keen to sacrifice himself for them at all. To be quite honest, he didn’t want the crown for the same reasons as the rest of the Farvars had.

No – Wiriam Gilver Farvar had other, far more personal reasons than to be selfish like the rest of his clan.

Wiriam watched as the bastard prince rushed over towards his wife, ready to defend her against the knights that poured in the room.

The knights had gathered around them already, each of them having their own specialty and powers. Some pointed weapons at them, some even used magical items.

"Your highness," one of the knights sneered at the prince and princess, "you are surrounded. If you might want to live a better and longer life, might we suggest you return to where you belong?"

"Escort them back to that rundown manor where they belong!" a noblewoman yelled from the opposite side.

The prince glared and snarled at the knights.

"Do you want to live your own nightmare?" Aleksander taunted them. "Because I can give them all to each of you."

The prince stood tall beside his wife. Aleksander and Elys had decided what to do beforehand on the worst-case scenario that could happen during the prince’s claim for the throne.

In the event that a lot of the nobilities and clergy were against him and try to imprison or throw them out, Elys was supposed to use a bit of her magic to knock back everyone just as how she had done to Aleksander when he underhandedly gave her a vision.

Her magic would deem necessary so that they could buy time as the vampires try to gather their disoriented selves after her attack.

The prince turned to his wife, but then saw the hesitation in her eyes.

"I might end up burning everyone in the room," Elys warned them.

The prince smiled at her, reached out for her hand and said, "You can burn away everyone in here if they won’t let us have the crown without a fight, my lovely powerful wife."

Somehow, Elys felt Aleksander’s words comforting.

’Yes,’ she told herself, ’Nobody here is innocent, and I am out for blood. I can just let it all out."

Elys felt a surge of mana take over her, a tingling sensation creeping under her skin like electric pulses.

The princess focused, breathing in and out as the knights marched closer. She opened her eyes just in time the knights were just a meter away from them.

Suddenly, Elys released a wave of blinding light.
