Chapter 293: Chapter 293 - Finding a way
Eric gazed at them both with an incredulous expression. "So, what are you trying to say? That I know some jaw-dropping secret about the agency that they’re trying to hide?"
"Maybe not about the agency but something that Freda wants," Mark said, sipping his tea casually.
Eric rolled his eyes. He was nothing but an unwanted system that was made to do insignificant tasks. What could he possibly know? ’They’re acting as if I led a secret life before I was a system or something...’
He silently took the pot of soup in the middle of the table and filled his bowl.
Kai, who had been silent until now, spoke hesitantly. "How can we find it out? We definitely can’t read his soul. It will kill him. I can’t think of any other way..."
Mark just grinned. "There is one, and you know it."
"No," Kai’s expression went serious. "You’re not suggesting that—it’s too dangerous."
While sipping the soup, Eric gazed at them both. "What method?"
Kai sighed. "He’s suggesting you hop into another world."
Eric was flabbergasted at this point. He slammed the empty bowl down with a sigh. "That makes zero sense. What does me going to another world have anything to do with my so-called sealed memories? Hmm? This is just stupid."
He shot up, ready to leave the room.
Mark grabbed him and made him sit down again.
Glaring, Eric peered at his hand. "You better take your hand off..."
"Okay, little feisty kitten." The man playfully raised his hands. "My suggestion makes great sense. Because the worlds you went through were all the worlds you were born into. Kai said you’ve been to two. Both the alternate worlds you went to are the ones you were born into once upon a time."
"Huh?"
Now that made no sense.
"The worlds I went into are the ones I managed as a system."
"You can’t just go to a random world. No one can. You have to have a soul connection to that world to go there," Mark stood up with an exasperated expression. "How do I explain this... I need a chalkboard. Wait a bit." The crazy man ran into his room and came back rolling a huge chalkboard.
He drew a small circle in the middle. "Think of this as your soul. A soul is what gives life to a body. It’s sent to a world to live a life, be it as a simple insect or a human. We all have a purpose. Once a body dies, the soul escapes. Then it’s wiped and sent to another world to live its life. The cycle continues on and on..." Then he drew a washing machine-like thing.
"What’s that ugly thing?"
Mark looked at him dully. "This is a transmigrator machine. What this machine does is very simple. It takes your soul and sends it to one of the worlds your soul had a connection to."
"So you’re saying the two worlds I’ve been to are the worlds I was born into before."
"Technically correct and wrong at the same time. Those worlds are the ones you were born into, right, but the body you inhabited... it was your body as well. You technically lived your life twice in those worlds. By doing so, your spiritual energy increased. See, you had three bowls full of that soup. I’ve added a hundred times the spiritual energy I should have. No one can eat more than one bowl and not explode."
Horrified, Eric pushed the bowl away. "What!"
"What the hell, Mark!" Kai shot up and grabbed him by his collar.
"I was testing something, okay. I wouldn’t have let him eat so much that he couldn’t handle it. This boy you have here... he’s strong. Like, very strong spiritually. I’ve never seen a soul this strong before. He might even beat you, Kai. No wonder the agency wants him..."
Kai shook him by the collar, gritting his teeth. "That doesn’t give you the right to poison his food!"
"It’s poison?!" Eric tried to puke it out, but nothing came out. "Oh my god! What is wrong with you!"
"It’s not poison, per se... tsk, come on, Kai. Chill, he’s unharmed." The man pushed Kai’s trembling hand away. "Eric here is an excellent specimen, an extremely powerful soul with an extremely powerful secret... You guys have to find that out so that you can save your asses."
Eric sat there holding his aching head. "So what the hell must I do to get those memories back?"
"Simple. Live all your lives again."
Eric glared up at him. "That’s not simple at all."
"It’s simple. Any soul could have only lived a maximum of seven lives. You just have to relive your seven and simply find out that secret before Freda kills you. That way, you’ll have some leeway with the agency. Trust me, the agency would be by your side."
Eric gazed at Kai with a glare. ’Five more worlds... He had to live five more worlds. The first two already left him scarred and traumatized...’ He massaged his brows. "Okay... I’ll do it."
"And I’ll go with you," Kai added immediately.
"No! I’m doing this alone!"
Kai looked completely hurt at this. "You could be in danger... They might send someone to hurt you in those worlds..."
"I can take care of myself. Where’s the darn machine? Let’s end this quicker."
Mark chuckled. "It’s not here... it’s at the agency."
Eric slumped back in the chair. "Yeesh, just say I’m doomed to die."
"I’ll get it," Kai gazed his way. "I’ll find it. But you have to promise me... you can’t go to these worlds without me."
Eric just faked a grin. "Didn’t you hear the genius talking? He said you can only go if you have a soul connection. Sadly, you don’t. I’ll go alone."
"I do have a soul connection!"
Eric frowned. "How can you have a soul connection to all five of my worlds?"
To this question, he watched Kai become flustered and slightly guilty.
"What did you do...?"
Mark looked at the two with a mischievous grin. "Ohhhhh, your souls are bound together! Oh my god!"
"What does that mean..." Eric whispered through his gritted teeth while glaring up at Kai.
"It means you’re together until even death doesn’t part you. You’re stuck with him."
Eric slapped his own head. "Great. Just kill me."
