Chapter 288 - A choice

Chapter 288: Chapter 288 - A choice

Kai alden leans against the cell door holding in a sob.

’It’s just the soul bond... I.. I don’t have feelings for him.’ He thought to himself and composed his turbulent thoughts.

Walking by that dingy computer den he froze up again. Only Eric’s computer table had been taped off and left as is.

Dazedly he sat on the small uncomfortable chair gazing at the whide black screen in front.

’This is what he must have seen everyday...’ he thought.

The paper cranes were all scattered around the screen. He picked out a yellow one and opened it up. Inside in small fond eric had written, "I want to see the sun"

Kai did not know but this completely broke his composure. The tears he had been holding back rolled down his cold cheeks.

"Yes... he likes the warmth of the sun..." he sobbinglu caressed the paper.

So many memories of his eric passed though his mind.

eric loved running around in flower feilds, loved eating ice cream im winter.

He was a ball of sunshine and rainbows.

But now...

but he was despondent.

Kai sobbed softly. It broke him from within.

’I... I did this to him. I gave him that love and broke his heart... now... now he doesn’t even have the will to live on,’

Memories of Eric flooded his mind, each one a bittersweet reminder of what once was. He couldn’t shake the feeling of guilt that gnawed at him, knowing that he was the cause of Eric’s pain.

Leaning back in the chair, Kai closed his eyes, trying to block out the overwhelming emotions threatening to consume him. But the image of Eric’s longing for the sun lingered in his mind, haunting him like a ghost from the past.

"I’m sorry, Eric," Kai whispered into the empty room, his voice barely audible above the hum of the computer fans. "I never meant to hurt you."

But apologies felt empty in the face of the irreparable damage he had done. No amount of remorse could turn back time and undo the pain he had inflicted on the one he loved.

As the realization sunk in, Kai’s shoulders slumped in defeat. He had to face the truth: he had failed Eric in the worst possible way. And now, as he sat alone in the dimly lit room, he was left to bear the consequences of his actions.

The door to the office room banged open.

Four agents stood in the doorway, their expressions stern and unwavering. They wore the insignia of the organization, their uniforms crisp and professional. Kai’s mind raced as he tried to make sense of their presence. Why would they be here, and what did they want with him?

The leader of the group stepped forward, his gaze fixed squarely on Kai. "Sir," he began, his voice commanding yet respectful. "We have been sent by the leader to retrieve the rogue system."

Kai’s breath caught in his throat as the words registered in his mind. "Rogue system?" he repeated, his voice barely above a whisper. "You mean Eric?"

The agent nodded, his expression grave. "Yes, sir. The leader has deemed it necessary to bring the rogue system back into custody."

A wave of panic washed over Kai as he struggled to comprehend what was happening. He had never agreed to let Eric go, never consented to handing him over to anyone. And yet, here were these agents, claiming to have the authority to take Eric away from him.

"No, i think you have got the wrong order." Kai said, his voice trembling with emotion. "It was already duscussed in the meeting. ."

But his words faltered as he struggled to articulate through the complex web of emotions

The leader of the agents regarded Kai with a firm resolve. "I understand your reluctance, sir," he said. "But we cannot allow a rogue system to remain at large. It poses a threat to our organization and to society as a whole."

Kai felt a surge of frustration rising within him. How could they be so blind to the truth? Eric was not a threat; he was a victim, a soul trapped within the confines of a machine. And Kai had sworn to protect him, to keep him safe from harm.

"I won’t let you take him," Kai said, his voice rising with determination. "Eric is under my custody."

The agents exchanged glances, their expressions unreadable behind their masks. But the leader remained unfazed, his gaze unwavering as he met Kai’s defiant stare.

"Sir," he said, his voice steady and authoritative. "I’m afraid you leave us no choice. We have orders to retrieve the rogue system by any means necessary."

Kai instantly took out his soul gun.

Kai’s hand tightened around the grip of his soul gun, a sense of urgency and desperation fueled his actions. He knew he had to protect Eric at all costs, even if it meant facing off against the very organization he once served.

The agents tensed, their hands hovering near their own weapons as they prepared for a confrontation. The air crackled with tension, each heartbeat echoing loudly in the confined space of the room.

But before either side could make a move, a voice pierced through the silence, halting them in their tracks.

"Enough."

The voice belonged to a figure standing in the doorway, silhouetted against the harsh fluorescent lights of the corridor. It was a woman, her presence commanding and authoritative as she stepped into the room, her eyes fixed on Kai.

"Agent Alden," she said, her voice cool and measured. "Stand down."

Kai’s grip on the soul gun loosened slightly as he recognized the woman before him. She was his superior, the one he had once looked up to for guidance and mentorship. But now, her presence only served to deepen the turmoil within him.

"Why are you here?" Kai demanded, his voice tinged with bitterness. "To take Eric away from me?"

The woman shook her head, her expression unreadable. "No, Agent Alden," she said. "I’m here to offer you a choice."

"You can either hand over the rogue system peacefully," the woman continued, her tone measured yet firm. "Or you can face the consequences of defying the organization."
