Joo Haolei waited for what seemed like an hour before the force arrived. everyone was perplexed on how to enter the house with the two sniff dogs.

"Just climb over the walls." He shouted at them.\fist the two dogs were lowered into the house by tying a cloth around their torse.

As soon as the pups saw him, they all happily jumped on him.

"whoa Pepa you have gown and you too ruth," he cheerfully played with the pups.

Soon five men jumped into the house.

This was his team.

special crimes division. They were in charge of investigating any special crimes like this.

A tall young man with a botched yellow dye job walked over to him grumbling under his breath. "Yo man, you called her out to the country side for this?"

"You took your sweet time getting in," he patted Lai Tsu’s slouching shoulders.

"Dude it’s early in the morning! We can’t just run around all night can we...." He yawned out loud. "oh apples.," he plucked one off the tree and started to munch on it.

"Look at this," Joo Haolai squatted down and carefully lifted up the cloth to reveal the ash and bones under it, "it looks like it was incarcerated. But I don’t see any traces of fire around the bones."

"oh oh don’t touch anything," Lai Tsu pulled him up.

"Why?" Joo Haolei glared down at him.

"Because you are not on duty today. So you are only a witness today... shu, go stand in a corner," he chased him away and instructed the men to search though the house.

Frowning, Joo hao stood in a corner. He watched the sniff dogs run around wildly. After they had calmed down the dogs started to sniff around the garden. They paused close to the apple tree where he found the bloody knife at.

"Pepa. What is it?" he anxiously stepped close.

"Nah ah! don’t you dare step close hao. I’ll send you out of here. You aren’t on duty," smiling his friend berated him.

"you’re really pissing me off dude," sighing he leaned on the side of the walls and watched them collect samples.

The Pepa and Ruth went wild. they just sniffed at the roots of all the trees around here.

Seeing this Lai was very much confused. "Did you guys forget to feed them? Why are they sniffing at the roots of the tree? Pepa. Come on, don’t be lazy. Sniff around until that bozo standing there is satisfied," Lai Tsu glared back at him with a scowl. "I have a date this evening... and I look like a zombie thanks to him..."

This was a small village. Crime rates are literally non-existent. The only major crime that happened once was theft. That too was settled by the family. The cops and the special crime devising had nothing much to do.

They would usually assist the villagers if they needed something that’s all.

essentially cops had nothing to do in this small village.

Today bright in the morning this bozo woke them all up and made them travel all the way over to this weird house.

Lai Tsu was more than pissed and tired.

Pepa continued to sniff the apple tree’s roots and barked loudly.

"Pepa don’t be naughty," he pulled at his leash.

"Wait... don’t you see that," Joo Haolei ran to them and pushed him out of the way. Squatting down, he carefully removed a piece of dried leaf to reveal a small bone.

"t-that is... night be a chicken bone."

Growling Joo Haolei started to dig around the bones. This revealed a small skeletal hand. "Still believe its chicken bones?"

Lai was stunned speechless. "Fuck....I ate it!!" He immediately dropped the apple he was eating. He plucked it from this exact tree. "Shit..." he ran to a corner and continued to puke out the apple he just ate.

"We have to dig out this tree.... the corpse is right under it."

Ruth started to bark crazily as well, standing close to a tree.

Joo Haolei carefully dug under there to find even more bones. "there’s another corpse right here!!"

Seeing this discovery Lai Tsu looked around in shock. "Everyone search everything in this house. Don’t miss a corner. Good job Pepa." He fed her a snack and sent her off with one of his team members.

They scoured the area.

The dogs started to bark at every tree in there.

Joo Haolei lei felt a weird chill passing on his back. "I... I think we need to dig all of the trees up."

"Fucking hell... this is so fucked up."

The team hired local farmers to help dig out the trees.

It took them almost a day to take down the twenty trees in there. And under every tree... they found a corpse.

The team carefully unearthed them and bagged them up.

Lai Tsu’s panted watching this. "How the fuck did you come across this? This place is messed up man... twenty.... Twenty corpses.... We changed the system. We have no clue who lives here. this land was once supped to be a temple but was later on abandoned. This place is not even on maps, man....did you talk to the villagers? do they have any clue?"

Joo Haolei took a whiff of the cigarette. "no one has any clue. Even grandma has not heard of this place."

The corpses were all bagged and ready to transport. The teams sent them off the autopsy while Lai Tsu and Joo Haolei stayed back to clean up the things in there.

"You didn’t tell me how you came across this place?"

"One of the kids survived... he escaped out of this hell hole."

"No fucking way......" Lai pulled at his shoulders. "is he alive?"

"Hmm he is unconscious after his operation. He is well so it’s okay. When he wakes up, we can find out more about this shit hole."

The whole house was emptied. They found bloody traces on every single thing in the house. not even the carpets and the tatami mats were spared. Everything.

So many things were pried and checked leaving the house a complete mess.

Only the beautiful pond was left untouched.

The lotuses softly swayed in the wind.

Lai Tsu sat down beside the pond peering at the murky waters. "a serial killer in GUI village. Fuck, I didn’t sign up for this."

"so didn’t I." snuffing his cigarette on the ground Joo Haolei sat down beside him. "But that kid man, you should have seen him. He was totally bruised and abused. The killer did a number on him."

"Did you see that apple tree? I found blood all over those branches. The kid most likely climbed over to get out of here."

"But do you think the killer would just let him walk away like that. The boy was badly wounded and was not able to walk properly. From the traces outside he crawled all the way over to my house. The killer could have easily jumped over and grabbed a hold of him. This road is remote. no one would have even heard his screams,"

Lai Tsu rolled his eyes. "I’m not a serial killer how would I know? But we do have to investigate more into that. So much work......" he whined, torching the small lotus close to the shore. His phone suddenly rang pulling him out of his depressed state.

"baby~ yes... I’m at still working... oh no I will definitely make it for our date... no no! I will never cancel our plans." He hurriedly shouted glancing at his friend. "Help me," he mouthed.

Sighing, Joo Haolei took the phone from his silly friend. "Sister, how are you?"

{’Haohao? Where is that fucker? He was supposed to come pick me up ten minutes ago!! he is late! I got all dressed up and he is still at work! Ahhh just want to punch him. Brother, tell that bozo if he doesn’t make it today I will fucking break up with him!’}

Lai slightly tugged at his sleeve. "How is it?" he mouthed.

"Bad." he mouthed back. "Sister we just found a serial murder case so things got out of hand. We lost track of time. You know how much Lai loved you. That man adores you so much. Don’t give up on him......"

{’serial murder?! Is everything okay? Did you guys catch the killer?’}

"no, we are still searching. So don’t stay out late. I’ll send Lai over to you."

{’thank you so much, brother. If not for you I would have left that irresponsible man long back.’} Lai’s girlfriend grumbled loudly.

Joo Haolei cut the call and handed it back to him. "You owe me a beer,"

"Thank you so much, man." Lai hugged him tightly. "Wait I’ll get her some flowers. She might forgive me then," he tugged at the lotus. The stem of the flower was surprisingly strong. "it’s not coming out..." he stood up and started to full on pull at it.

The flower’s whole root broke off and started to float. Along with it were white bones.

"oh, my fucking god." Lai dropped the flower instantly. "We.... We forgot the pond.... There are corpses in here...." he looked at his friend. that would only mean overwork again. "I’m going to lose a girlfriend........"

Joo Haolei chuckled. "Being a single dog is better."

"Fuck you, single dog. I want my baby. I’m leaving. You found this mess so you take care of this mess." He dashed out.

Unknown to him a dark force lingered on his body leaving the house along with him.
