Chapter 176: Chapter 176 - The new world, new Challenge

Eric’s soul was sucked up in a tight vortex once again. He felt his whole soul being squeezed into a tighter space.

he heard the soft chirping of birds close to his ears.

Instantly, His eyes shot open.

Dully, he looked around. That last-minute fear still resided in his heart. That man in black almost caught up with him. He was almost killed.

His heart was pounding so loudly that he couldn’t hear anything else momentarily.

He gently patted his chest. ’I got lucky this time, but what about next time? Listening to those guy’s conversation, they are trying to capture me... fuck....’

Only after a few minutes was he able to calm himself down.

’lest not think about it. I have to finish this world’s task soon. System, give me my final task,’

{’I can’t give you the last task before you finish the preliminary tasks.’

Eric rolled his eyes. " Fuck you,’

{’host is mean.’}

"yeah, and you’re an idiot," he mumbled under his breath.

Eric took this time to observe his surroundings. The room he was in was a very small one, but it was very clean and neat. He was sleeping on a tatami mat with just his thermal wear. The tattered bed sheet laid pitifully out of the mat, most likely kicked over in sleep. The soles of his feet and his hands were already cold.

He hurriedly warmed himself up.

’Where am I now?’

"Jung. Aren’t you up yet? It’s time for morning prayer," a tall man with a shiny bald head poked his head through the small doorway. "Did you pee on your bed again?"

"no......" he whispered, standing up.

He had no fucking clue where or who he was. So, it was better to play along.

"I’ll be out in a minute," he smiled up at the man.

The bald man kindly smiled back and left the room.

He went through the room trying to get a gist of what world he was in. There was only one small cloth bag with a few clothes and a small notebook. He flipped through it. On the first page, he found the name Jung Shi written in beautiful handwriting. There was also a small jar at the bottom of it all, along with a few yellow papers. He picked them up and sniffed them.

The yellow papers had a weird, bloody stench.

As for the jar, it had a weird blood-red cream in it.

’Whatever this stuff is.’

’Looks like I’ve landed in a weird world again. System, are you purposefully giving me hard tasks?’

{’....’}

’Yeah, I figured you won’t have any words.’

He took the only piece of clothing he had. It was a blue robe of strings that tie up in front. At first, he found it hard to fasten it. But after a while of struggling, he wore it. As for the pants, it was a simple pair of white pants.

There were a pair of very old sneakers in the corner as well.

He did not want to wear them, but it was better to wear dirty shoes than go barefoot.

Grimacing, he wore the smelly shoe and ran out of the room.

It was slightly foggy and dark outside. The sun had not come out yet.

Right out of the room was a huge lotus pond. A few koi fish swam around gleefully.

He did not admire the beautiful scenery because he had a goal. he was going to finish all tasks as fast as he could. and for that, he needed to figure out what his role is in this world and handed to complete it faster.

He rushed to find the black man to find out more about himself.

The house itself was a traditional Chinese house. A beautiful moon gate led out to a lavish garden with a lot of fruit trees.

This place was beautiful, but it also had a weird feeling about it

The fruit trees in there all had a weird aura to them. As he looked at them, he noticed black spots flying all around them.

’What am I seeing right now?’ he rubbed his eyes.

The black spots disappeared. the beautiful garden retained its ethereal beauty

Not thinking much of it he rushed to the place where he heard the sound of bells.

The bald man was sitting in a meditative posture and was chanting sutras under his breath.

He slowly approached him.

"You are late again. sit," the man said in a firmer tone.

Eric finally had a good look at his face and his attire. The man too, wore a robe just like his. But with his bald head, this man’s identity was quite obvious. He was a Taoist monk.

Eric touched his own clothes. ’fuckkkkk I’m a Taoist monk too...’

The man did not ask him to chant anything.

Eric started to observe things around him. There were two huge swords mounted on the walls. The room was decorated in a minimalist manner. The monk was sitting on a cushion and he too, had a cushion to chant and meditate on. The walls were painted a tone of green and at some spots, the paint was peeling off.

By that time, the bald man had already finished with is chants and stood up.

naturally, he too stood up and followed after him.

They had heard right in the kitchen. The bald man started to make the food.

Calling that food was an exaggeration.

The monk simply cut up a few ripe fruits and served them on a small leaf plate.

Without a word, he also ate with him.

All along, there was no opening point for him to actually talk to this man.

’How can I even find out more about this world if I can’t even get this man to talk? How can a man be so silent.’

"Jung, your hand,"

He held out his wrist to him.

Only then did Eric notice how slim and small his hand was. It did not look like that of a teenager. Rather, it looked like that of a child.

His eyes widened ever so slightly.

But not to give himself away, he silently closed his eyes.

A small force started to invade his body. Like a needle piercing through his skin, it pierced through his veins, traveling all throughout his body.

he silently gritted his teeth and tolerated.

’What is this monk doing? What is this feeling? Is this a fantasy realm? Fuck you... fuck this. Why do I have to deal with this shit again? Last life was such a hassle...’ he paused mid though. His last world was a hassle, but the life he had was so content.

His eyes started to tear up, instantly thinking about his lover’s beautiful face.

’ill have to wait a long time to see him again. Maybe I should make a painting of him. Yes, I should do that.’ He nodded to himself.

The Taoist priest let go of his wrist with a deep frown. "What do you do all night?"

Eric blinked. ’I have no clue sir. I was a soul back then....’ he simply looked down since he was unable to answer.

"you have not been cultivating well. How many times have to tell you Jung? You must cultivate. You are young. This is the ripe age to cultivate and improve your roots! If not, it will be all too late!" the man’s soft tone suddenly went harsh. "I took you in from the slums and raised you as my disciple, and this is the respect you give to my word! Unacceptable!!"

his smiling face went malevolent momentarily.

’Cultivation? I knew it. It’s those kind of world. Fine. I will cultivate and become strong. The stronger I am, the easier I can finish this world’s task.’

"Go now! Go to the ice room and cultivate!" he harshly pulled him up from the floor and dragged him over to a small room.

Even before opening the door, he could feel the cold air coming from inside.

’wait that is a fridge... this man is trying to kill me.’

"Master please, I will be good. I will cultivate. It’s just disciple does not understand a few parts you taught me. Can you please teach me again?"

The monk froze. "I’ve been teaching you this since last month. Why can’t you still get it! Are you dumb?"

He really really wanted to say ’I’m dumb, so what?’

He instead gave a small smile at him. "Master is a good teacher, but this disciple is the bad one. Please don’t give up on me. I can do better."

"Fine," the Taoist monk dropped him.

"Stand up. Don’t make it seem like I’m bullying you,"

"Master never bullies me. Master loves me the most,"

The man’s malevolent face changed into a kind one. "yes, that’s right. Master will always love you," he patted the top of his head.

Eric was instantly dragged off to cultivate.

Cultivation, he thought it would be easy... but it was hard.

Very hard.

He was made to sit in a meditative posture with his eyes closed, and that annoying monk told him to absorb the yin energy in the air.

he lost count of how many times he actually yawned inside his own mouth.

’Yin energy my ass. With my eyes closed, how can I even see anything... ah this Is going to end up so badly. This guy is going to chuck me into that ice room again....’

Right as he thought this, he felt a small needle-like prick on the middle of his forehead.

He frowned slightly.

Little by little, small needle pricks increased. He peaked through his closed eyes. That monk was far from him. He too was sitting in a meditative posture.

’he is not doing anything... is this what cultivation is....’

Eric felt his tired body instantly energize as the pricking feeling intensified.

’whoo hoo I’m a cultivator now...’
